Let me start off by saying that the two recent 5 star reviews for this store have been posted by the owner and one of the managers, so I would take those reviews with a large grain of salt. Now then, Ive shopped at this store a few times since moving to Fargo and I have to say it is easily one of the highest priced and worst managed liquor stores in the area. Happy Harrys, Bottle Barn, Empire...all three of these stores are cheaper than Lake Mode. Also, Lake Mode almost never has anything new on sale. Sure they have sale signs up on some of the big names like Windsor, Captain, and Crown, but those never change except for an increase of price. Even with those "sales" most other places are still cheaper. Any other sales they have always end up being the same things as well; a few different wines like Barefoot, Starling Castle, or Relax, and if youre lucky maybe a case of beer might go on sale once or twice a year. But even those examples are always the same and still cost more than the regular prices at Happys or Bottle Barn. Then there are the policies and management. Ive seen multiple instances where customers have had items ready to buy and get turned away. Why you ask? They dont have a drivers license or ID card from one of the 50 states in the U.S. So if youre visiting from Canada or dont have a drivers license/ID card from the U.S., dont waste your time going here, they wont sell to you. From talking with employees Ive even heard that IDs from some states dont work at times either. On rare occasions after checking an ID that is Canadian I have seen employees use their own ID so that they can still sell to the customers. Apparently management doesnt approve of this though and would rather lose a sale than help out their customers. I personally think its a great step by the employees to improve customer relations though, especially if the person is of age and has valid identification. That does bring me to the only good thing I can say about this place, and that is the employees. They are usually friendly and professional, and most can be helpful if you have any questions. All in all though, I definitely would not recommend this place to anyone. The only times I ever bought from here were when I was short on time and in the area. Otherwise I always go elsewhere.

Lakemode is extremely over priced. They are constantly 10% priced above their competitors. Worse yet, their employees are rude. I stopped in recently to grab a 6-pack of a seasonal beer. The cooler was empty so I asked the clerk if there was anymore in the cooler. He simply responded "couldnt tell ya". I chose the 12-pack and proceeded to check out. He was busy counting the till and ignored me for 2 or 3 minutes then finally sighed and asked me to step to the other till. Also, Im 26 yrs old, and look it. Ive never been carded when Ive been in there. What happened to below 40yrs? Service is terrible and prices are unreasonable. Ill do my liquor shopping elsewhere.

Avoid it at all cost.! The staff is rude and still needs to learn to say “thank you”. They always throw your credit card back at you in cold silence. Go anywhere else!

Pretty solid selection and is convenient. Pricing is slightly higher compared to other bigger liquor stores though. But Wednesday is wine day and has solid discounts.
