Beauty with a Soul...Thats how I would describe vert&vogue. The clothes and shoes are incredible, but it is so much more than just looking good. It is the feeling that I get when I shop there. I feel encouraged to be beautiful, and surprised that I like what I look like when I come out of the dressing room. Sometimes I try on something that I NEVER would have picked for myself and am shocked to discover I like myself in it. I have found another side of myself that I kinda like by shopping there. And it is fun. They make it really fun. I also love the fact that so much of their products are made in the US. The designers are actual people with a story, not some faceless brand. It makes shopping there much more meaningful. Like I am connected not just to the designers, but to other people who like those designers, too. I can recognize other v&v shoppers around town by what they are wearing and its almost like we are in on the same secret. It makes me smile because I know that they get it, too. V&v is beauty, for sure, but with a soul. There is a real soul to that place and you feel it. It is a beautiful experience to shop there, even when I am "just looking." *Full disclosure: I worked there for 2 years and love the owners and the shop. They have high standards, big hearts and true integrity.*

Vert & Vogue is one of our favorite places in Durham. Ryan and Nadira are the wonderful owners. There is a great selection of clothing and accessories, and some of the friendliest sales associates youll meet. My husband has been choosing unique locally made jewelry for me here for several years now - my Ashley Brodie collection is the jewelry I wear almost everyday! I also love the shoes - Cydwoq and Coclico are two brands I really like. I wasnt a shoe person until I discovered these! I was reading the wonderful book "Lessons from Madame Chic" by Jennifer Scott. She suggests the concept of a "capsule wardrobe" - choosing about 10 quality pieces as the basis for your wardrobe. This is a GREAT way to think about clothing purchases - choosing few high quality pieces is best for the environment, for the people who make our products, and to refine our own sense of style. V&V would be a great place to start building a capsule wardrobe. If you care about quality merchandise, goods with a story behind them, supporting the local economy, and items that are built to last - this boutique is for you. Stop by and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff, and gorgeous goods. You wont be disappointed.

I was never inclined to believe that a clothing store could be a place I would want to return even when I didnt need clothes. But Vert & Vogue is truly something special. All of the staff have impeccable taste, intelligence, good humor, and a light sales touch. (By "light" I mean that one feels attended to and supported rather than badgered.) They have clearly created an atmosphere to inspire customer loyalty. It is impossible to be in the store and feel anything but elated. I think the air vents pipe in nitrous oxide. The clothes I leave with receive compliments from strangers, are easy to care for, and feel as comfortable as pajamas. (While they sell clothes from several designers, the Vert & Vogue brand shirts are my favorite brand.) Thank you, Nadira and Ryan, for your amazing creation that enriches Durham! [UPDATE] One more observation after a few years of V&V clothes: They are excellent for travel. Clothing made this well is durable but lightweight, perfect for layering, and easy to hand wash and drip dry during a long trip. And Nadira and Ryans good taste assures that you will not stick out as an American tourist wherever you go.

Vert and Vogue is like having a clothes and shoe venue that is a friendlier version of TLCs "What Not to Wear." If offered the opportunity, they will reveal a whole side of the customer that the buyer has never seen before. Nadira, Ryan, and the rest of the staff are there to either assist clothes fashionistas to put together eco-consciousness and fashion, or for those who have never walked into a clothing boutique before, an opportunity to play with a new sense of style and fashion (with an eco bent). The first time I walked in, one of the sales people simply said, "Lets play!" with no rush to sell. They simply brought out clothes that they thought might fit me physically and personally. Forget about walking out of the store buying something that doesnt fit the person...it wont happen. It was a magical experience! This boutique is for those who want to push the envelope on their J. Crew, Banana Republic, Nordstrom, and Chico fashion palette. What is extraordinary after buying clothes and shoes at Vert and Vogue is how unique one feels and dresses in a society of "Ken and Barbie" clones.

A wonderful store! Beautiful, well-made merchandise, an owner who has a great eye to put together an outfit, and genuinely caring people running V&V. An amazing example: Several months ago I had seen a blazer which I liked but couldnt really afford at the time. Recently I was notified that it was sale season at the store so I took a chance and asked by email if the blazer was still available. It wasnt. It had been sold. And then some hours later I received an email from Zoe of V&V with a link to a site where I could get the same blazer online at a huge discount. Zoe had decided to do some research for me even though it wouldnt result in any purchase from her. Extraordinarily kind of her. What a woman! What a store! (And I live in Manhattan where I have endless choices...I still love to shop at V&V whenever Im visiting family in Durham.)

Vert & Vogue is the slow food of fashion - organic, chic, local, delicious and familiar. This store is the perfect destination to find gifts for the impossible brother-in-law, your best friend, your mother or a new baby (in addition to scoring a new essential item for your wardrobe!) I can walk to this store from my house, pick out something perfect on each visit, and grab lunch in brightleaf before heading home. Each visit is special because the owners take the time to greet you by name and show you the latest and greatest. This is local. This is real. The products are beautifully made, green and sure to glean compliments from all.

I love this store. Nadira, Ryan, and all the staff treat customers with a gracious courtesy and the clothes/accessories are beautiful. The suggestions they make are spot-on and always with a genuine interest in making the customer look their best, not selling them the most expensive piece in the store. They showcase designers and manufacturers who are committed to sustainability as well as beauty AND they make substantial contributions to the community through charitable outreach. So, if you can, save your bucks and bypass the mass market retailers and invest in your community while bringing some real style into your life.

Until I visited Vert & Vogue, I always felt uncomfortable in trendy boutiques -- never felt welcome, rich enough, thin enough, cool enough. At Vert & Vogue, I have a completely different experience. On my first visit I was met with gracious service - helpful, not intrusive and never pushy. I got help putting together outfits and trying on clothes I thought wouldnt flatter me (but did). I always buy more than I intended but never regret it. The materials and the quality of the fashions match the customer service -- which are excellent. The passion of Vert & Vogue for what they do is contagious!
