as a man of the 20th century living in the 21st century...i find myself at Century 21 time traveling to a future where i save some cash at this discount department store chain so i can spend more cash elsewhere. yes you have to fight through tourists, so welcome to NYC. i often just walk here when i am running errands downtown. its a nice walk (as long as the weather holds) where you can get a lot done in a relatively small radius in terms of retail. also riding the subways around here (while convenient) can be hell bc of crowds, farts, and headache-inducing din. the layout? used to suck. is better now--renovations/restructures/and such. theyve also hired more staff or refocused them, so the store doesnt look like a tornado hit it during hours of operation AND they definitely use more cashiers...which move lines quick! its a multi-floor store. fairly big. aisles are narrow-ish because the store is packed with items. i refused to pay full retail on most active and sports wear. while finding your size and color preferences can be a challenge and require persistence (coming back often)...ive saved anywhere from 40% to 70% on name brand compression and sweat-wicking gear. in fact i ALMOST have too much. almost. in terms of standard mens. retail, theres a wide selection of "designer" suits, shirts, pants, denim, underwear, socks, etc. you just have to be willing to hunt for them. not sure why people pay twice as much for CK (or fill in the name brand) boxer briefs at Bloomingdales and the undies still lose their elasticity just as fast. if you find you size, color, fit, etc. here, but it IF you wait...it might be gone or the stock might be moved to another store or sold to another retail chain etc. return policy is fairly flexible...so theres no reason not to buy it and then return it if you have buyers remorse. dont forget they sell stuff other than clothes. housewares and such. deals to be had on lots of things. for those of you who have C21 addicts as friends...gift card it up. the staff? helpful and hardworking. its not an easy job. saying hello and thank you do go along way here. drops mic cuz i need my other hand free to swipe right and leave my discounted loot!

I visited this location today to get some general shopping done...instead while making my way to the register I was not greeted but confronted by what seemed to be an angry male I didnt get his name but he was incredibly rude he expressed to me it was a fire hazard for so many people be in the area and directed me to the other side to sample whats there. Being on that side right before where an associate me to the side I headed too because what I was looking for wasnt there. I said sir youre not listening to me Im trying to explain. So I explained and he responded ok what do u need Ill get it for you. I said no its fine I actually what to get it myself and I stood to the side and told him Ill wait until some people left. Aftet about 2 minutes he told me just come because I cant stand there. Ok I proceeded and started sampling he then yells out NO perfume sampling. Stopping everyone who was trying too. So my question is why the hell do u have testers? I selected 2 others perfumes and then ask the young lady on the other end if its OK I pay for my purchases there. She said No I CANT and directed me to the second floor. Now what really annoyed me was that Im very noticeably pregnant Im exhausted and your not going to have me running in circles to take my money after. Of course I left my basket full of merchandise and walked out that store. Never again. I felt unwelcome and I was a bother being in that store.

I had a horrible time at this store. This is why: We bought $348.44 on a debit card and $150 in cash, in this store. This adds up to 498.44 Dollars worth of items. The cashier wanted us to give him each item one by one. We had so many things that we might of dropped a pair of shorts or he didnt ring it up. One of the bags was tipped over and the shorts were right next to it. My 12 year-old son was taking that bag and thought it was ours. An innocent mistake. When we left, the alarm rang and a security guard stopped us. He called two other security guards and they started yelling at my son and tried to intimidate him. Something no parent should let happen. They were going to take him to a room by himself, hes only 12 years old, and wouldnt let me go. They said if I tried to go, they would arrest me!!! They cant do that!!! I have the right to do that since hes underage!!!! They finally let me go with him. When we got to that room my son was treated like a delinquent. They took his picture, his measurements, weight, everything. They even searched him for weapons! They also thought he was he faking his birthdate!!! It was a horrible experience and we later returned EVERYTHING. If anyone from century 21 is reading this, please talk to the security guard named Mohammed. This happened on 7/26/2010 at about 6 P.M. Dont ever shop here!

Century 21 is featured in most guides and tourists itineraries. As a result, there are all sorts of people swarming through the place, and a fair share of them is in a sweating frenzy, searching for a good deal. The deals are there: ive bought items at up to an 80% discount. That is, a real 80% discount: not the kind you get against a theoretical list price, but the kind you get against the price youd pay in other stores. 50% discounts are not an exception. So, wheres the catch? And why does it not get 5 stars? Theres barely any customer service at all. The sales "assistants"... well, theyre not even worthy of being referred to by that name. Most are just there to bring in more stuff, as the aisles get pillaged. Even the ones who are supposed to assist people can only give very little advice. Which, in the end, only adds to the chaotic atmosphere. Might this be just what the management wants? It sure feels like being part of a gold rush. Everyone is looking for things, only they dont know what theyll find, or where to look for it. If youre going to be inside for some time (and chances are you will), think first about taking off your coat... it can make all the difference between being a sweaty prospector, and shopping in (relative) style.
