I took my tri bike in to have my pedal based power meter installed because Im a member and I had a giftcard. The pedal required the mechanic to align it using stickers provided by the power meter company. He installed the pedals but told me that he thinks I bought a faulty unit because all of the power meters he put on went on the right side and mine was on the left. When I went home, I looked it up and almost every one sided power meters go on the left (like mine). He also didnt install them using the proper instructions because he left incompatible spacers in. On top of all of this, he didnt give me back my original pedals and cadence sensor back. To be fair, I didnt realize until I got home. When I gave them a call, he shipped them out right after. TLDR: if you have a race oriented road bike, I would bring it to a local bike shop before bringing it in to REI

Great bicycle service station. Competitive prices to local places such as Brands in Wantagh and very friendly staff. I brought my bike in one day last week because the hears were skipping and Teddy took his time for 15 min working on it, no charge. Prices for goods, such as kayaking and biking accessories, are pricey, but I enjoy coming to the store to get ideas and shop sales. Customer service is top notch.

Took my specialized there for gold service - after one ride everything started rattling and squeaking. They told me because its an older bike (i never had problems with maintenance from a specialized authorized dealer). Anyways, save yourself the headache and take it to an authorized and certified dealer. But still my favorite store for everything else!!

While they carry most of the same great gear as the other REI stores and fortunately have the same iron clad customer satisfaction guarantee, this stores customer service and ability to provide expert guidance has been on the decline for months and months. You might just try the Eastern Mountain Sport down the road.

Love selection and service at REI. Sales people at this store are great. Went to my first REI garage sale this weekend...got there 15 mins after it opened and parking lot was already full with people already on line with tons of stuff. Probably needed to line up before they opened.

Staff here are all very nice, much more knowledgeable about products in store than you would usually expect, and they spend as much time with you as you need. You will find clothing and sporting gear here thats quality is way up there. Store brand merch is top of the line too.
