The Zayas family has been going to Dr. Doolen for almost 14 years. We met when he had an office in Union. As our family grew over the years, (4 kids) they have always accommodated us. Well, a few years ago, we met Marlene and she rubbed me the wrong way. So I corrected that behavior and we have since moved on. Ever since then, Ive only gotten my eyes checked and last year we stopped buying glasses totally. We would only have our annual family eye consultation. Well this year, when my husband informed me that they called, I decided to wait because Spring Break was upon us. I eventually made the call and left a detailed message. There is new staff, as that also seem to occurr each year, so when the young lady returned my call, I was surprised that she had not done her research as I clearly explained via voice message that I was calling for my familys annual appointment. After the second time I was placed on hold trying to explain, I knew this conversation would not end well. Having to split up appointments through a series of days as opposed to all of us over a 2 hour period, was not what I wanted. I found myself responding negatively, I was more frustrated because Marlene sent that message and hid behind customers. Really, why would you have an amateur speak to a person who has been going business with Dr. Doolen for so many years, when you knew I wouldnt have agree with what was being said, and I dont have time to take multiple trips to any doctors office. Much less one that I go to once a year for the past 14 years. After almost 14 years, give or take a year. Now, Im in search of another Eye Doctor. Dr. Doolen, I will miss you. Your past employees told me a lot of negative things about Marlene, but this was it for me. I was a loyal patient for many years. Marlene you should have spoken to me like a professional instead of passing messages through a lady who doesnt know our history.

When it comes to your health, you try to get the best doctor possible so why not do the same for your eyes? After so many unpleasant experiences at the "highway" eye places over the years, we were elated to find Dr. Doolen and Marlene at Verona Opticians. They are very knowledgeable and professional in each of their respective areas of expertise. Dont be fooled by the low advertised prices at the other places. By the time you get done there, either you have received a sub-par exam, purchased something you will not be happy with or you have been upgraded to a much more expensive pair of glasses. In contrast, Marlene takes the time to explain all options available regarding exams and glasses, and is very upfront about the cost. You are never made to feel that you should purchase something that you dont want. Personally, I hate picking out frames. However, each time I purchased glasses from Marlene, I ended up going with what she first suggested. Yes, she is that good! Yes, you will pay more by shopping at Verona Opticians; but quality costs more than crap. This is a small local business that we love to support and they are now like part of the family to us. I strongly urge you to consider Verona Opticians for your entire familys eye care needs.

Went in to the Office today for my regular check up & to get my contacts. As usual Dr Doolen did my exam, prescribed me contacts & because I complained that while reading I see a some blurry spots he immediately called my retina specialist & made sure I was at her office & seen within the hour. I wasnt scheduled to see her for another 3 weeks for my yearly checkup. Good thing because my left eye had inflamation & I needed steroid drops. Dr Doolens office staff are wonderful. They really work to accomadate you. My daughter has severe myopia & has a difficult time with contacts & glasses. They made her a pair of glasses that dont look like Coke bottles. She also us extremley happy with the Level of care and concern. Marlene is amazing at fitting the right frames to your face. I always get compliments when getting a new pair of glasses that look great & dont break the bank. Prices are resonable compared to Montclair & surrounding areas. I highly recommend Dr Bradley Doolen & his office for all you eyeglass needs.

I have been going to Dr Doolen for years. Everyone in that office is so nice and welcoming. They are so helpful and so honest. Dr Doolen himself is a pleasure to talk to and he knows his stuff. I use to hate going to the eye doctor but i actually enjoy coming to this office. The Dr and staff take their time to explain every single thing to you so you know what is going on and what the each charge is and how much insurance will cover. They do not get annoyed when you ask alot of questions like my old eye doctor did. They will never rush you like most doctors do. They make your experience personable and fun. I strongly recommend Dr Doolen to everyone. Oh and the girls behind the desk are so knowledgable and friendly and they even will help you pick out the right style glasses for you. They got me as a patient for life!

Ive been going to Dr. Doolen for about 5/6 years now. I like that they have two different locations because it gives you more flexibility depending on your schedule and where you happen to be when you need to make an appointment. This past visit was my first in Union and while I was waiting (not long) I noticed that two different patients who were there had broken their glasses and the staff was able to help those two without causing a delay to the waiting/scheduled customers. Thats nice to know that they go out of their way to help when you are in a bind. The staff in both offices are friendly and the offices in great locations being in the heart of downtown Verona and Union. Give them a try Im sure you will be as happy as "EYE" am. :)

Just thought Id share a few thoughts about Dr. Doolens office and his staff. I am a new patient who was referred by my neighbor because I cant read anymore! Anyway, I cant say enough about the staff from the the receptionist who made my appointment and then checked me in to the optician, Marlene, who treated me like family. Dr. Doolen was thorough and, more importantly, actually took the time to EXPLAIN everything to me. So, I may not be happy that I need reading glasses now at age 45 but at least I understand why and have found a new home at Dr. Doolens office for my annual eye exams. Regards, Jim

Had to visit another Optometrist 6 weeks after a visit with Dr Doolan. During my eye exam, the Dr never bothered to put drops in my eye, rushed through the visit - completed in 10-15 minutes and sent me on way. I have been wearing glasses for over 25 years and most of my exams lasted 30 to 45 minutes. Upon receiving my new glasses, I noticed they were blurry and thought my eyes needed to adjust. After 6 weeks, I decided to visit another Optometrist who informed me that the prescription written by Dr Doolan was "significantly off" on my right eye. Needless to say, I will not be returning.
