Decided to check out the store and it was a bit underwhelming. The rave is lobsters at $3.99/lb in there right now, but there are just a couple small ones in the tank; though I give them credit it is a good price (but Hannaford nearly matches it now with a store coupon). Anyway, it is that low due to low current wholesale market prices as of the time Im writing this review, not that it really is a loss leader. Otherwise, things I buy here are at the standard pricing at other stores (albeit I do admit Hannaford prices lower in areas they compete with this store). The checkout lines were long at a time when it really wasnt that busy, which is counterintuitive for a store that saves money by stocking shelves as much as possible during the day. Selection does cater to those who want to save money by sacrificing some quality as the store brand is heavily promoted, so their strategy is to drive traffic by taking a lower margin on these products that traditionally have a higher margin. I find that natural and organic products along with health and beauty products can be cheaper (or at the very least about the same price) at other stores. With products in these categories, there are differences between different brands carrying the same product, but it all averages out. The store is also overrun with homeless beggars.

Since Arthur Demoulas got control of the chain back, this place has been great. The people are friendly, the food is fresh, and prices are great. I can get a weeks worth of kale for two dollars a bunch (one bunch is over twenty servings, at least), fresh produce, all kinds of organics, and a full of aisle of the best stuff -- frozen veggies, cereal, wine, and beer. The sushi is good, too, as are the goodies they make up front (to the right when you go in). I always find what Im looking for here, and the workers are always friendly.

Hot Foods and Deli is disgusting. The employees do everything with their gloves on. I once watched one old lady employee clean the counter with her hands (like the brush the crumbs and food off) and the whole time she kept the gloves on. Then once i watched this rude bald headed guy hand money to the lady that was making friends sandwich. Mind you, they both had gloves on and didnt change them. Like I watched them serve other customers with the same gloves. I was soo turned off. Never again. These people are disgusting and dont care.

The pros, this is a very nice market basket, large, and with a better selection than most other market basket locations in the state. Prices at market basket are usually the best in town for supermarkets. The bad: checkout lines are huge if you ever come here during weekends or on food stamp replenishment day. They have the same amount of cash registers as a market basket half its size, and its not staffed to capacity. If they hired some more cashiers or built some more registers this would be the best supermarket in the state.

I usually buy fresh haddock, but they were out of stock, so I bought cod loin I was very please with the freshness of fish. I cook it with Oliver oil, fresh garlic and white cooking wine, 1/2 teaspoon of chicken base, 1/2 teaspoon of butter. 15 mins later. The fish was so yummy it melted in my mouth. The young man Damien that works the fish department was very helpful and knowledgeable about his job and very polite. I enjoy fresh fish and the service was great. I will definitely tell my family and friends . Zeli B Manchester NH

Very Grimy! A regular hangout for the citys homeless and drug addicts. Bathrooms are the most disgusting youll see anywhere, police officers have a full time job standing at the entrance doors 7 days a week, that alone should tell you something. Employees are NOT pleasant at all, theyre as bad as the grime that goes in there. My advice, choose any other Market Basket to go to. ...literally any other one will do!!!

Clean, with friendly, customer oriented staff, the downtown Manchester Market Basket has a good selection of organic food, wonderful prices, and fantastic location! The bathrooms up front are sometimes completely a mess because the store allows homeless people to come in, buy a coffee, and hang out for the day. If you gotta go, go to the back of the store, near the deli. The bathrooms back there are always clean.

Ive tried on several occasions to shop here and I just cant. Not only are the people that go there the trashiest people in Manchester, but their healthy food selection is horrible. There are barely , if any , organic options and the produce is verrrry questionable. But I guess if you dont really care what you eat or where it comes from , this is the perfect spot for you. Hannafords is a much better choice.

This is a nice store as market baskets go, but it is ALWAYS crowded. Ive been late in the evening, early in the morning, weekdays, and weekends. The deli seating area is always full of people just trying to stay warm or cool, so sitting and eating can be very awkward. Strangely, for a Market Basket, their produce selection and quality is amazing. And as always, prices are amazing all around.

Market Basket is the best grocery store in New England. Privately held, top quality and cleanliness with the best prices of any chain. In Manchester, NH, avoid busy times shown on their website for the first week of each month when public assistance checks go out, because this store has a lot of clientele who depend on such support and the store gets extremely crowded.

Place always smells bad and the cafe is full of homeless and junkies. Aisles seem super small and for not being open long the overall apperance is dirty. Plus why do all employees wear a uniform but 1 blonde who was stocking bread recently wearing shorts that her ass hung out of? Very unprofessional. Wont visit this store again

Full on supermarket but the crowds are ridiculous. This place is always packed. Its like people dont know about other markets. I usually go to PriceRite for the peace and quiet. Market basket does have everything tho and the staff is friendly, the cafe is great. Its warm and inviting. I just wish they werent so crowded

Id give a better rating as their selection is great if it werent for the mini homeless camp in the cafe area pretty sad i cant sit and eat a quick lunch without literally almost having to fight a homeless drug addict over a seat he thinks is his. Not to mention the smell. Solve those problems and ill give 5 stars

When I moved to Manchester I heard a story about how this local grocery chain had a very loyal following. Ive always found the staff very helpful and there is a great selection. This is definitely my favorite big grocery store in the city. They sell the mushrooms that are high in vitamin D here. :)

My wife and I surveyed all the local grocery stores looking for gluten free options, humane meat, local produce and reasonable prices. Hannaford came out top, and Walmart was second for meat. But Market Basket has a good gluten free offering, and their prices - though not lowest - are competitive.
