I go to Menards for the Dutch Boy paint, and will browse around at other stuff. Ive bought an area rug from there, only to get it home and it was cut uneven. Rolled it up, dragged it back to the store and exchanged it. The 2nd one was ok. I also purchased another cheaper area rug from there, it was supposed to be on sale.. got it to counter and it rang full price. I contested and they said theyd have to have someone walk all the way back to check it out.. I said forget it.. meaning I dont want it. Well the checker rang it up and I didnt even notice until after I paid. Since I just bought it I said well go ahead and check on the price now.. so I waited. and waited. They finally came back and said the rug must have been in the wrong place bc the sale sticker said "description of rug" and I looked at my receiept and I said that is exactly what my receiept says. I made sure I double checked before grabbing the rug to make sure it was on sale. They finally gave me back the difference. but they were not happy about it. Most places just ask you what the sale price was and go about the transaction. Not Menards. Not very friendly. I just called to check on a special order item. The last email I got was "recieved at store" and it still had another bubble to fullfill on my order status, so I assumed that just bc it had been received that doesnt mean it is ready for pick up. I wasnt going to go up to the store and wait around for hours for them to find it, so I waited for my final bubble to be filled and assumed I would get a READY FOR PICK UP email.. 5 days pass. I finally call to check and I was told "if the item has been delivered to our store then its ready for pick up." How was I supposed to know that? And they dont take military discount like Lowes and Home Depot. The only good thing about this place is the location. It is not in the middle of busy Cave Springs or Zumbehl, so it is convient to go to when you just need something, but overall Home Depot is way better! They take military discount and their staff always is willing to help. I dont stand around very long at HD before someone sees me and helps me. Menards you stand forever and then the person you see has to call someone else to come help you.

Decking/ Lumber Dept and the General Manager. After deciding to use Menards, I informed an employee in the decking department of all my wants and requirements of a deck; he used their deck building program to draw up plans and did inform me on a couple occasions that all materials would be included on my order. When materials arrived, I had several critical materials missing from my order in which I could not continue without. (After checking into this, these materials were not included in the order... HOW COULD CRITICAL MATERIALS NOT BE INCLUDED!!?). I had no choice but to purchase these items from a competitor up the street rather than driving 25 miles to St Peters to get them as we live past Wentzville and had people waiting at our home to help. They were missing rafters, Washers, bolts, pier brackets, carriage bolts, corner brackets, and a few more things, and oh yeah.... and three of the 6x6 piers... All in all, someone messed up bad and I respectfully tried to get reimbursed for only the things that I pay for out of pocket which ended with no result other than, "you bought at a competitor there is nothing we can do." I did write a letter to the customer support center in which they told me that there was nothing that they can do and they will send my complaint to the store manager.... Seems like its a viscous cycle as he is the one that told me to take a hike in the first place. This department in my opinion does not know what they are doing, and the company relations department and store manager really dont know how to make things right or communicate for that matter. I will never be shopping there again and I hope that no one has to go through what I went through; if they do, I hope they arent nice like I was and throw a fit till they get treated right. Home Depot or Lowes would be cheaper and I recommend them any day!

Special ordered 10 doors for a job, 7 out of 10 arrived damaged (all similar to the pic attached). They did discount the items, but I will still lose money because the repairs to each door and frame will take longer than what the refund will cover in time that I will spend, but cant bill to the homeowner. Unfortunately I just didnt have time to wait another 2 weeks for replacements (that might show up in just as bad of shape) so I had to take them as-is. The special order pick-up process is also painfully inefficient. It took nearly an hour from the time I arrived at their security gate to the time I got back on my way- and that was with no one else in line! Had there been several people waiting, who knows how long it would have taken? This isnt a one-off experience either. Even with simple pick-up items like light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, or even in-stock items like lumber and other building materials, everything requires a tedious check in, wait for assistance, and check out of their loading yard. It will easily take you 3-4 times as long to do business here as it will at Lowes or HD- or even better, a local supplier like Henry Plumbing. In my opinion, any cost savings from their gimickey sales (which are often bait-and-switch deals where they only have 3 or 4 of a sale item in stock, but plenty of nearly identical items at double the price in stock that they would be happy to sell you for full price instead- sorry, no raincheck!) and the fact that you have to fill out and submit rebate forms to get advertised prices on nearly every item (all of which is done the old-fashioned way rather than online like every other retailer on earth- which I am sure is a successful tactic to significantly reduce the number of rebates they actually pay on) are just not worth it to me anymore.

Ive been to the St. Peters location quite a few times by now. Its been just okay for the most part. The wood selection is the best feature. I made my first major purchase there recently, their Concerto porcelain tile with the flute coloring. We decided to use the 6.5 inch tile to do an entire bathroom. It wasnt until I emptied all seven boxes and started mixing them that I noticed these are not true 6.5 inch tiles. Instead these are 13 inch tiles that are cut into four pieces. The end result is each piece has two beveled edges and two cut edges. The sizes are more irregular than anything Ive worked with. Ive installed quite a few tile floors over the years and never seen such a poor quality product. What a joke. Now I have to decide if it is worth packing it all up to return and then go find something else vs just using it. Im sure they have some quality stuff there but I would recommend paying especially close attention to the quality of their tile before buying any. I cant believe anyone sells tile like this. It makes me wonder if any of their other products are just as crappy. While I havent written them off entirely, they will not be high on my list for finding materials in the future.
