I have a some issues with this place. First, I purchased about 13 lbs of live rock to seed my reef tank. I got two rocks with aiptasias on them. This isnt a problem, cause I know how to get rid of them So after 6 months I purchased a yellow tang from them. (First off the fish that come in are treated in copper tanks as soon as they arrive. They sell them to you like this.) When I got him he was under fed to the point where his stomach was caved in. Second with this tang he developed ich with in two weeks. Luckily He was in my quarantine tank. We are talking laying on the bottom of the tank with approx. 10 gill movements per second. Right now he is healthy and in breeding condition. (this is how all of your fish should be.) I recently went up there to look at some corals, and to see what fish they had. Well I made the mistake of buying 3 Chromis from them. First off I should have said something and I knew better. Anyway, the Chromis came out of a tank with two dead fish in it that I did not see because they were in the back of the tank behind some rock. So yea all three died in two weeks. That was my fault, I should have said never mind, and never got them. (Lesson learned) What I hate about that store is it will take about 15 to 20 min for someone to simply say hi, or can I help you? Next this is what really got me mad. Okay everyone that is into reef aquariums knows that aiptasias will kill off corals. So a customer asked this; customer, "what are those?" "Are they some kinda of anemone?" Her reply was "yea," he asked " are they harmful to corals?" she said "no they are like weeds!" I couldnt believe it! When she went to go get a box, I warned him not to get the rock, I told him he would have problems down the road. He figured he knew best and bought them anyway. So that is on him. Needless to say, I am done with this place. If you wanna have a great customer experience and quality live stock go to Pruess Pets in Lansing. They treat their fish for one month in a tank than watch them for another month before they go out for sale. Plus they have really nice corals as well. Knowledgeable staff, always friendly and willing to help. Hope this helps. Dont make the same mistakes I did.

My wife and I drove out of our way to visit this store because weve heard so many great things about it. Needless to say, we really werent that impressed. The store is very cluttered. They definitely need a bigger location. Their saltwater and freshwater fish selection/setup was impressive, but the reptiles not so much. They had a fully grown ball python on the bottom shelf sitting in an empty tank with no lamps on it whatsoever, with a brown paper bag draping over the tank saying "not for sale" which to me means that theyre waiting for it to die. When we asked a few questions about some of the reptiles, the brown haired lady wearing sweatpants (if only I could wear sweatpants to work) had barely any knowledge about them and did not seem interested in helping us at all or referring us to someone who actually knew what they were talking about/friendlier. Bottom line is, our visit could have been made better by more personable staff.

When you go into a store, you pick out your desired product, go to the counter & usually when you see an employee you expect to be taken care of or at least acknowledged. I was walked past at least 3 times by the same girl w/o attempting to cash out. the worst part is that the owner was at least 5 feet from me talking to a customer about her fresh water fish. completely ignored me, could have said "ill be right with you" but no. Talking to the mildly attractive older lady was more important then a guy that wanted crickets. He then proceeded to walk her back & continue to explain more products. I timed this whole ordeal to 5mins before I walked out & left the 4 dozen crickets on the counter. Most importantly there were less than 5 customer in the store. I have been going to this store for as long as I can remember but will not be back as that blatant poor service really cheesed my chives.

Buyer beware - the staff have absolutely no idea how to plumb the tanks they sell, to the sumps they sell. Neither Lowes of Home Depot carried the parts so I went back to Moby Dicks - they couldnt help me either - they even called Home Deport (presumably because I wasnt believed) to be told again, they do not sell the parts. Only when I threatened to return the tank and other items I bought that morning for more than $1,000 did they really take things seriously. They eventually gave me fittings from a second hand tank that was already plumbed. They could save an awful lot of unhappy customers by keeping the relevant fittings in their own inventory. Next time I will go to Fish Doctors.

Ive visited this store three times with my boyfriend. The first two times we were never greeted or asked if we needed help. We were standing around waiting for service and someone who came in after us was helped and we were completely ignored-- we were appalled!!!! So we walked out. When we visited today we saw the same thing happen... someone was being ignored for service so they just left. That being said, the store has an awesome inventory and really interesting animals that other places lack. However, they NEED to get better customer service for us to ever want to come back.

I went into Moby Dick as a new customer looking to buy a complete aquarium. Salesman was helpful for awhile. I special ordered a tank, was considering a custom stand, and was discussing fish, when another customer came by. He politely asked the salesman if he would be awhile. Salesman said he would, and the customer started walking away. The salesman then asked what he wanted, which started a lengthy conversation while I stood there waiting. After several minutes I walked out. Moby Dick can keep that tank and everything else. Im going elsewhere.

By far the best place for fish in Michigan. Great selection, good prices, and Ive never had a problem with a fishs health. They keep their specific gravity low and use UV sterilizers to help with that. So whereas you might find a store with sick fish (or even fish that have died and havent been removed from the tank...) youll never see that here! Definitely my go to place! Theyre always busy and thats good to see. Please shop local before you think about heading out to your big box store.

Terrible customer service... Id rather make the drive to Lansing and deal with real people and not kids. This place is a nightmare, Ive been trying to GIVE them a breeding trio of African cichlids in full color (the same ones they sell for $100) for over a month, and since I work first shift I gotta drive 30 min to some one who employs adults to find a new home for my fish. So if I buy something that outgrows my tank I have to flush it or throw it in the trash??? NO THANKS
