We had no intention of shopping in downtown Dearborn on Sunday. My parents were in town and we were looking for something to do. My dad is a car fan and J thought a trip to The Henry Ford Musuem could be interesting. After a quick Google search, I remembered there was a Cheli’s Chili in Dearborn and even though Chelios is a Red Wing now, he’s a Chicago boy first, so I’ve been wanting to go to his restaurant. We got there about five minutes before the restaurant opened. My mom noticed a flower shop across the street which led us to see a Fruit Market across the street from that. So, to kill a little time, we headed across Michigan Avenue. Westborn Market is a small group of stores in the Detroit area. Besides the one in Dearborn, there are stores in Berkely and Livonia. The Dearborn store is on Michigan Avenue at Oakwood Boulevard. From the street, it looks like any neighborhood grocery store, but that impression quickly changes you walk inside. The first area of the store is an open air fruit market. It’s covered by a permanent structure, but there are no window or doors….at least when it’s nice like it was the day we stopped. They have a huge variety of fresh produce. When we walked in, J called it a cross between Whole Foods and Horrocks (in Lansing & Battle Creek). They had the variety and nice displays of a Whole Foods, but they didn’t have the Whole Foods prices. After checking out the fruit, we walked to the next room where the meat, bread, and general grocery items are. Although, before that, we checked out the dessert case which had an array of homemade goodies. Like Horrocks and Whole Foods, Westborn doesn’t carry name brand items, but instead, opts for quality off brands. They have stacks of homemade breads, fine cheeses, and of course, a good size meat case with a butcher. There’s even a deli counter where you can grab a quick lunch. Throughout the store, there are a number of free samples. The ones I happened to find were their own olive oil dipping sauces and multiple cheeses. I kept going back to the cheese aisle hoping to find more samples. My mom picked up some oranges she had never heard of and a few desserts. As she was paying, my dad got my attention from the beer aisle. They had a six pack of Schlitz bottles. He asked if I wanted to drink some cheap beer when we got home. I passed. I knew if we got it, I would have Schlitz in my fridge for quite a while. Even my dad, who’s not a grocery shopper, says he wishes we had brought a cooler. There were a lot of great finds that we just couldn’t take advantage of due to the heat and the fact we weren’t going to be near a fridge for seven hours. Wish there was a Westborn a little closer, but if you’re in the area for some reason, this place is worth a stop.

Overall I had a splendid time shopping at Westborn Market on Michigan Ave. A young man named Dane was there to accompany me on my shopping experience. I came with a very long, complex list of items my family and I were needing, and Dane exceeding my expectations for any farm market. Some items were not on my list, but Dane helped me find substitutes for the products which allowed me to be happy. Dane even assisted me in carrying my bags to my car! Normally I do not leave reviews for places, but the costumer service of this place "off da chain." Thank you Westborn Farm Market, I will continue to do my business here.

The soup and salad bar here is one of my favorite lunches in Dearborn! I have yet to try a soup Ive disliked yet. My favorites are broccoli cheddar, loaded backed potato, white chicken chili, and butternut squash. The sushi is pretty decent too (better quality than Krogers at least and cheaper than a real sushi restaurants). If you go on weekends they have lots of tasty samples available too! I always bee-line to the cheese area to get some of the feta garlic dip that is just obscenely amazing.

The Royal Oak and Livonia Westborn stores are terrible. Music so loud you get a headache after a few minutes. You have to almost shout at the clerks to be heard. Not very friendly people either. They act like theyre always too busy to wait on you. Nice selectio of items but who wants to put up with all the noise to shop there. Stupid management. Salvaggios is much better and much more pleasant.

Produce is fantastic, watch and know the prices on what you buy. Some things can be very expensive, some things can be a good or better price than the other markets in the area. Definitely the best quality fruit in the area. Very clean, friendly staff, small, great prepared food section, bakery, and meat sections. Expensive though.

They have a great selection of fruits and vegetables at a good price but what made my trip there really nice was a employee named Marv. He was so happy and cheerful and if he saw me looking for some thing he would come right over and help me out. Its great to see people who love their job and are so happy.

This location is a staple lunch place for me. I love going to their salad bar or deli for some delicious tuna salad or protein salad. One of the grocers, Marvin, always says hello and gets to know the customers. So nice. I prefer the healthy selection at Westborn to any fast food.

Expensive so I would not recommend doing your regular grocery shopping here but the prepared foods and raw meats are always fresh. Soups are really good. It would be nice if they would return the Black Bean soup to the menu on a regular basis. Its one of the best!

Excellent selection of fresh produce, meat, seafood and spices. This market is renowned for its customer service. At first glance you think this is your average fruit and vegetable market; one visit and you find out its so much more.

The woman behind the hot food counter always gives generous helpings and I love it. She must understand the struggle of feeding someone young, healthy, and active.
