This shop has no sense of esthetic. It looks filthy, there are ragged posters on the wall. The posters for sale are on disgusting cardboard laying on the floor. The carpet looks like a dog has rubbed his behind across the entire length of the store. Part of the store smells like something died inside of the walls. There is no comfortable place to sit and browse through books, and even when you do a man (Im assuming is an owner) barks at you "This is not a library." While the employees are very helpful, the owners seem to be a detriment more than anything. When asked for a professional resource, the owner kept recommending childrens books. When I tried to explain that I was looking more for materials for an adult she only repeated childrens books are very adaptable. It was very unprofessional to ignore what I had asked for. What seemed even more unprofessional was when I was being rung up at the register, the owner had said over the speaker to the employee "How much did she spend?". The employee obviously felt very awkward about this situation and replied "Im with a customer right now". I understand that this is how they make their money, but is that all your customers are to you? I was disgusted at this mentality. They only had one book that I had requested in stock. The employee had suggested that she could order it for me, but it would take about a week. I would just assume giving my money to Amazon. Even though it is a small business, it seems that they have the same mind-set. I dont think that I will be giving them my business anytime soon.

I typically do not write reviews online, however my experience at the Self-Esteem Shop was worth sharing with everyone. From the moment I entered the store, I was amazed at how many resources and supplies they had in stock. Their staff was friendly, honest, and very knowledgable. As a new therapist, I can understand how overwhelming it can be to deal with a difficult client. By going to this store, it made things so much easier. I loved my experience and would go back time and time again to get my resources. Handymen might have Home Depot, but clinicians have the Self-Esteem Shop.

This is hands down the best specialty bookstore that I’ve ever had the pleasure of stepping foot in. The Self Esteem Shop has the best selection of books you can find anywhere. The owner is extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and must read and hand-pick every book, toy, etc. that they sell (which is evidenced by their great selection, and her knowledge and insight about every book that they have). I hope that more people will support this wonderful family owned gem (and help it from being put out of business by Amazon)!

My first experience at the Self Esteem Shop has me wanting to go back right now for more! As a new clinician, I found the owner of the store to be so knowledgeable and helpful in helping me select some new toys for my play therapy toolkit. She also went above and beyond to assist me in picking out some books that are perfect for some of the little ones Im working with. I will definitely be back, probably after my next paycheck! :)
