If I could give "0" stars, I would! We walked in under the assumption they were still owned by the people we took our CCW class with and quickly learned we were wrong. The 3 guys did nothing but talk crap about the people who use to own it and did it right in front of us (very unprofessional) They insisted since we did our class with the people we didnt know how to shoot guns. They were very unhelpful and pretty rude to the other people we seen walk in. They were more expensive then the other local ranges we have been to and only gave us 1 target to shoot at (we paid for an hour.....3 guns, 300 rounds, and 2 targets......yea like shooting through a ring after a while) and when we asked for more we were told they were .50 cents a target. Their range is also pretty small, theres maybe 6 stalls and I think only 50 yards deep i cant recall the exact distance...... We wont be going back and I will discourage anyone who asks me for suggestions from visiting.

Been going here for years. Everybody knows this place and its poor reputation! Take it or leave it! Theres not much else on the northern east side unless you want to drive west on 23 mile rd. This is how all gun shops used to be 20 years ago. This place has its regular customers and theyre not very receptive to "newbies". Dont come here if you have thin skin! These fat slobs love getting their jollies watching your face turn red! Dont buy anything! Dont even talk about buying something! Requesting information on a gun is an invitation to an argument! God forbid you want something smaller than a .45 and its not made by Glock! What are you? An idiot? Brace yourself for a chilling lecture on "meth-addicts" clawing through your cars windshield! They love to depict a scene straight out of "Terminator" where a drug induced assailant is coming after you and your pathetic 9mm! LOL!! Just go there for the entertainment!!

A small shop, but they care about customers. If they dont have it, theyll order it for you. The owners take the time to talk to you, but they dont have time to educate you. By that I mean, you have to understand that buying a firearm is serious business, and you should do your homework before you come in. If you want to window shop and figure out which end to hold, maybe Cabelas or Bass Pro is more your place. They have lots of ammo to choose from, cleaning gear, and cases. Lots of odds and ends to choose from. The firing range is modern, and well kept. A single rifle stall allows for short range rifle use only. Firearm prices and range prices are spot on, but because the shop is small and the range is small you may have to wait for service depending on how busy they are.

Tried going to the range last week. Will never go again. We showed up just after 6:00 after a 40 minute drive. I met up with two of my friends but to our dismay there werent enough lanes open. Luckily the guy working the counter said we can come back at 7:00. So, still at the counter, we say well grab some dinner and be back at 7:00. We grab a bit to eat and we end up going back to Brown Bear at 7:06. This was neckbeards exact words. "Sorry guys you showed up too late. I have a CCW class at 7:30." Really? You couldnt have said that in the first place? Seems like another one of those gun shops in the area that has employees with a know-it-all attitude and a kind of resentment to customers. $22 an hour and a 40 minute drive. Next time Ill just go to Petes for $12.

I was suprised to see how accurate the other reviews of this place really are. Any factory loaded ammo is for range use only. You can only use targets purchased from Brown Bear. You can not draw your gun from a holster and fire. And they require you to leave your drivers license number on file "in case you try to sue us". This place scared me away real quick. Didnt spend any money and quickly walked right back out the door. I normally shoot at CQT and have never had a problem. I shouldve continued with my normal range. I will gladly spend my money and continue visiting CQT. Stay far away from this place!

You should be happy Brown Bear exists, you should be happy the owners take their time to "assist" you. Brown Bear is the anomaly in the shooting world - it is the only range/gun shop I have ever been where finding true enthusiasm/help is like pulling teeth. God forbid you have a different opinion than the ownership. The welcoming and friendly atmosphere that should permeate a gunshop is non existent here. I felt more like I was in a courthouse than a gunshop. Good shooting experiences are found at Peters or CQT. Huron Pointe is outdoors but top notch.

These guys treated me as I feel people who know their stuff, and care about guns should. I was looking for my first gun, and got helpful information, without holding back just to make a sale. I ended up walking into the store three times to bother them, before I ended up getting one from them, that I love, which was also $100+ less than everywhere else I looked. The 2nd and third time I walk in there, they didnt treat me any less well from not buying anything before hand. Id recommend anyone who hasnt checked them out to do so, before their next purchase.

I took my CPL class here. I am not impressed by their range or their store. Also, if you want an opinion on something, just ask the "Big Guy". He will be glad to give you his. Just hope that your opinion and his are on the same sheet of music. Otherwise expect to be called an idiot. Hes a very knowledgeable person. He just doesnt have any people skills and should not be behind the counter waiting on customers. Personally, I dont need to be insulted when I am trying to buy something. Probably wont be doing much shopping at Brown Bear in the future.

This place blows. Hands down worst customer service I have ever encountered. I only bought a weapon from them because they had the gun that I needed. The whole transaction from when I first walked in to when I left was just awful.I spent $500. Before I left I made it a point to shake his hand(fat lard with beard) I told him my name and he respond with his...didnt even look me in the eye... Ill never step foot in that place again. Ive had better customer service buying a 89 cent candy bar from the gas station...

The guy George behind the counter is one of the most knowledgeable people I know for info on guns, ammo, reloading. I had to find and oddball caliber years ago (30-40 Krag) for a friend of mine and he had it on the shelf. Great prices for what I shoot. Range is up to date and ventilated with a seperate booth for long guns. The ability to rent is a nice plus for bachelor parties, just plan it out ahead of time. If you dont know something, dont pretend to know, just ask! Great guy.
