After moving to the Detroit area, I was sad to not be able to find any bookstores that I considered serious about spirituality and other related topics. Then I stumbled across Crazy Wisdom while working around Ann Arbor. They are a two story bookstore with a coffee shop upstairs. The coffee shop is nice and cozy but the items they serve are a bit dated and honestly the coffee and tea could use someone who knows a little more about whats out there. Food items are same. Enjoyable but not memorable or of the quality I would expect walking in the door. The bookstore itself though is very well done. Lovely wood shelves with an incredibly wide selection of books and additional basic related spiritual items. Staff is almost always nice. You will likely find any book topic you are looking for involving personal growth, spiritual understanding, or even organic gardening and politics. If you are expecting tools and implements for advanced spiritual work, this isnt the place, but thats to be expected. Their focus is books and they do an excellent solid job. I also understand they have a wide variety of events, classes, and workshops. Never been to one but they publish a local magazine also that details this. You can often find readers of some sort or another upstairs. A nice place which is well done and well maintained.

This store has to have one of the best smelling atmospheres of any building in the city. They have a diverse selection of books, and for what is clearly a New Age oriented theme, they do include books and articles on traditional Judaic and Christian spirituality. They also have a rather decent rock and mineral selection which focuses on the healing potential of crystals, but again, also includes places of origin and scientific information on their specimens. The tea shop upstairs is a wonderful diversion and a nice place to enjoy a drink for a fraction of the cost at a nearby bar or Starbucks. I walked in with a splitting migraine the other day, smelled the aromas, drank some of their headache helper tea, and left with a smile on my face and the migraine gone. Definitely a happy place, and one of the more unique offerings in Ann Arbor.

im giving this store a low rating due to its return policy and the unreasonable and unrelenting attitude of the owner. at the regular register downstairs, the return policy is posted. no returns for refund, just store credit. at christmas time, the store was so busy that they were taking payment from people up in the tea shop, myself being one of them. this return policy was not posted there. when i tried to return something a couple of days later, the owner refused to give me my money back even when i told him i was unaware of the return policy due to paying at the tea shop. their negligence, i thought. he wouldnt budge so i was stuck with $100 in credit for a store that i no longer want to do business with. i spent my $100 credit and havent been back since!!!

“Yesstyle is a great online website to binge shop on Asian clothing because of its cheap price, but beware that the quality can be poor too! It is either a hit or miss, so be sure to read the reviews because they are very helpful in determining whether the item is of good quality. ALSO, the sizing is mostly one size, so be sure to check the measurements before purchasing an item. Asians are small. One thing I disliked it that I had to split my order in two in order to get my items quicker. One s...”

This bookstore is amazing because it has an wonderful atmosphere for browsing. You can take books from downstairs and bring them upstairs to just peruse and preview before buying. They have gems, crystals, tarot cards, etc... Its not hippie-dippie exactly but very alternative in a moderate way... Their teas are wonderful and they have some nice lunch items too. Their coaches are comfortable and always felt welcome to relax upstairs. Great for browsing too...

(Im reviewing this as a coffee shop.) This new age bookstore has a nice tea room upstairs. Quiet, with Middle Eastern music on low volume. Hardwood floors. A couple of outlets, though feels a bit too peaceful for laptops. Nice old tin ceiling. Free wifi with posted password. Large selection of high quality teas, including a very good chai you can get with a side of steamed milk. Small selection of high quality pastires and lunchy good (mostly Mideastern).

Love the tranquility of this place! I can always recenter myself and feel at peace here. Enjoy a cup of tea and explore! Im here quite often and have now made fans out of my friends and family as well. Great topics in books ranging from spirituality, auras, chakras, herbs, health and wellness, politics, personal development, meditation, etc. Jewelry, crystals, figurines, incense, all things spiritual, calendars, motivational items...you just have to go!

4.5 stars. We had my shower here recently in the upstairs room. It truly was the perfect venue and very affordable. We ended up getting coffees before leaving that were excellent. Very cozy venue. Everyone said a particular long grey haired staff member was consistently rude to them so I would knock this review 1/2 of a star if I could. Her rudeness doesnt quite qualify losing a whole star because everything else was on par.

This is not a chain book store; it has a distinct personality. The upstairs tea room is a great place to chill with some tea or soup. The lower level usually has some incense or other way to nicely engage your sense of smell instead of the sterile environment of a typical shop. Its book choices are more philosophical and intellectual. Its worth a visit even if its not your thing. Definitely a book store for Ann Arbor.

The downstairs book shop section has reqlly neat things to browse. They offer more than just books (crystals, incense, perfume, jewelry). I go to the upstairs tea room all the time. They have a huge tea selection a few options for food, not many though. I like that its quiet and usually not very crowded. Its good for getting work done. All the baristas are very nice as well:)

Been coming to Crazy Wisdom since it was living next to the Peoples Food Co-op and the old bakery on 4th ave. Its been fulfilling all my wildest hippy-parent fueled metaphysical adventures since I can remember, and it always smells really nice. Now that theyre in the new spot, their tea room is just the best.

Its a really cozy place to sit down and sip tea. There are always interesting books to browse or buy. The tea is good and they have decent food as well. The seating is fairly limited though. There are free musical performances and other events that are great to pop in to every once in a while.

What a cool place! This shop has everything a yogi could dream off, or if your just an arts type it works for you too. The bookstore downstairs is unique enough, but the coffee shop and study lounge offers and more quaint, comfy feeling compared to some other coffee shops downtown.

When you want a break and want to be somewhere that is peaceful just go here. Here is a store in which you are surrounded by books and objects that provoke ideas about the possibility of magic and mystery. A step outside the daily hustle and bustle and into a place that inspires.
