I am a veteran of the computer service trade, and I have to say that Little Shop of Hardware is one of the coolest shops I have seen in my travels. I went in to find a router and was surprised to find waist-high piles of every kind of consumer computer gear, dating back to well before the turn of the century. Most of the stuff is not in boxes, and much of it has no accessories, power adapters or documentation, but if you are like me these things are a plus. When I asked about wireless routers, the kind older gentleman handed me a switch (with no AC adapter to boot, I have seen seasoned techs make this mistake so I do not begrudge him), so I opted to go digging myself. At first I was disappointed, all I could find were B routers, but then a younger hirsute gentleman walked in and the older one informed him of my needs. He quickly produced a linksys G router, and whats more it was one of the reissues of the older ones with more RAM and flash so you can put your own crazy linux firmware on it. I paid a little too much for it but hey, I am a sucker for local business, especially local business with charm. BRAVO! PS To the Google reviewers complaining about long computer service times: good luck finding ANY neighborhood computer shop that can get repairs done in a timely fashion 100% of the time. It just doesnt happen. You should go to New York for that sort of thing. Jerk.

Welcome to the Little Shop of Hardware. I suggest you sit back, relax and enjoy the adventure. Here are some tips for making this an enjoyable excursion. The first thing to keep in mind is that the owner of the shop isnt AS smart as a rocket scientist. That is because he IS a rocket scientist. Paul was a student at Johns Hopkins applied physics when desktops needed screensavers because the internet was nothing more than a blinking green cursor and mnemonics atop a black background. Second, you are not in a "Best Buy" Dorothy. Dorothy has boarded a bus full of people who could be the cast of a John Waters movie (millennials will have to use their imagination since Monsieur Waters no longer makes movies). A life sized cardboard cutout of Divine would fit right in with the decor of the store. Third, you will get more bang for your buck than you ever thought possible. They will fix the unfixable or offer a solution that is not in the Geeks handbook. L.S.O.H. does not have a handbook. They will also charge a fair price for their services. If you yearn for a local service, here you go. They have been servicing their customers for so long that it is one of the few people in this business that can say that they fixed your parents computer, while they were designing a communications satellite.

I brought my laptop in for a power jack repair in the middle of June. The persistent incompetence of the man working on my machine gives me little hope for it. Every time i call and ask about it I get a "Im Sorry, Jim is the one working on your machine and hes not here now, and i dont know anything about it." from the receptionist. They have fixed my power jack issue, but it still does not boot. I was told this was due to a ribbon cable issue, which I find quite dubious as my drive is SATA. also my power supply "happened" to stop producing voltage while the power jack repair was being repaired. the quality of the repair so far has been poor; hot glue was used to hold the jack in place. for the mid 300s price i was quoted for the repair, i didnt expect hot glue! The Little Shop is slow, untrustworthy, expensive, and incompetent. The only one who seems qualified to perform maintenance on a computer is Paul, the owner. Unfortunately, he is too lazy to come in and work other than on Saturdays.

I dont know why this shop hasnt closed down. They must be selective about whom they give adequate service, like many businesses in Baltimore... decent for one, horrible for another, as their bipolar moods and whims take them... or perhaps they have some invisible criteria, or some strange prejudice based on conspiracy theories. Maybe theyre still in business because they perform expensive and illegal computer tasks for select private clients and bribe the police? Its one of the many things that makes Baltimore an unliveable city., but one can play "abnormal psychology" for only so long. I simply know I left a laptop in to get formatted, and kept getting the excuse that it had "been left in the van" for a week. I finally left some heated words on their answering machines threatening legal action, got my laptop back within two days, and never went back.

Horrible! I was charged way too much money considering they were never actually able to fix my computer! I brought my laptop in because it was very slow to start up and then continued to run slowly once on. They had my computer for a week and I called...they told me it was not ready yet...they needed more time. 3 (!) weeks later when I was finally allowed to pick my laptop up I found out that they never actually solved the problem....the guy in the shop gave me this advice: "Well, you can just start your computer up and then go do something around the house for 30 minutes and then come back and it should be up an running." That is crazy! How can they get away with charging full price when they never actually fixed anything???

AVOID this business as they are dishonest. We purchased an LCD screen from them via ebay. When the screen arrived defective, they issued a return authorization and promised a refund. We returned the screen at our own expense, and tracking numbers prove they received it within a couple of days of issuing the RMA. However they refused to issue a refund, and we are now out $70 from the transaction. Our audit did not catch this until it was too late to pursue through ebay, and they are stonewalling us. We will not deal with them again, and suggest you dont either.

They know what they are doing, but they are very disorganized. My laptop is broken, they checked for small problems, figured out that the problem is serious (motherboard). It took more than two weeks... Promised to copy the data, did not do it by the promised time and did not call that they are not done. So, this all took three weeks with my regular visits to the shop, after that I just picked up the laptop since I do not have time to come by twice a week for nothing. Paid 1h of work (80$) for these small checks. Will not come back

My understanding was that they had no idea of how to fix any problem on a Mac! They opened my mac and took a look and gave it back to me saying that we couldnt do anything: I brought it back and it turned out that my Mac didnt recognize the battery. It was a mistake to go there: the appearance of the store suggests obviously!!
