I dont know what the first reviewer (Logan) is complaining about, except maybe to complain because hes bored or something and doesnt understand what casual means and hasnt grasped the concept of communicating with the owner. Ill bet that Logan never said a word to the owner or the cook just to be able to complain online. This cafe is far above Tim Hortons and Dunkins. Allegro is a quiet. charming cafe with a rustic look, and thats the reason behind the art, the exposed brick, and the silverware holders on the tables. Its informal , not pretentious. Presque Isle doesnt need that. Its a soothing environment where you can relax with your coffee or meal over a good book or your electronic device, or just people watch. If you want upend and formal, go to Cafe Sopresso down the street (which is excellent for dinner, FYI). Ive eaten at Allegro a lot since it opened Christmas Eve 2016 and getting my lattes and coffees almost every day before I go to work, I have never had an issue with the food or coffees. The owner constently and openly states some pastries are made in house, the rest are outsourced to a local bakery and some are Amish (the owner was speaking with an Amishman making a pastry delivery when I was there on MOnday). Yesterday the cook had fresh made scones out of the oven still in the pans (lemon pistachio cardamom) when I was there. I bought 2. Delicious!! My favorite is the Cuban and its done well. Next is the gourmet grilled cheese...all gooey and yummy. The scones are amazing, with clotted cream is even better. Ive had a turkey spinach wrap with guacamole, tomatoes, swiss cheese, lettuce, and black olives, and I had to take half home with me it was so filling. Given the very limited space of the cafe, the beverage cooler is in the dining area. No big deal. Nothing "convenient store" about it. There was never any saying they made or sell their own beverages except the coffee, which is their own blend and made by Gold Peak and espresso beans by Coffee By Design. Coke is the preferred beverage service of the cafe. This cafe is a good go-to place for breakfast and lunch. The coffee is great and theres so many flavors of shots to choose from for the espressos. It has high speed internet, WiFi, and Hot Spot. They just got their beer and wine license, and happy hour on Friday and Saturday nights now from 4 to 7:30. I hope this cafe is around for a very, very long time.

First timer. They didnt have ice for an iced coffee, so I ordered a latte which came out luke-warm and didnt taste like a latte at all. Very hot inside and owner/manager was playing videos loud on laptop from a table. Told that pastries are made in-house, but I dont think they are. Poorly decorated and big silverware trays on each table. I only need one knife, not 20. There is a huge refrigerator full of other drinks I could buy from Coca-Cola...no need to have 40 other options of drinks at a cafe if you plan to try to sell your own beverage product. The place has a lot of potential to differentiate from Tim Hortons and Dunkin Donuts, but isnt is living up to the initial media hype. The town needs more elegance and simplicity, not a a convenience store disguised as a cafe.

All I can say is WOW on this place. Coffee is just as good as people say it is and there is free refills. My husband and I had cranberry orange scones with clotted cream. He had a BLT and it was packed with applewood smoked bacon. I had a chicken salad wrap. Chips came with the sandwiches. I had to take half of my wrap home because I couldnt finish it. It was just as good the next day. So glad we stopped in and we will be back!
