I DO NOT RECOMMEND The owners of this pet shop are very rude the man is slightly nicer than the woman but the woman is horrible. Twice now i have had issues with the crickets first time i wanted my crickets in seperate bags and the lady owner refused even though i offered to pay extra for the bag she still said no. I purchase generally $2 worth of crickets 10 small and 10 large yesterday i was informed they were out of large so i was going to purchase $3 of small when again the woman owner informed me she was limiting the small crickets to 10. Seriously you have the product yet refuse to sell it so i left without purchasing any i do not see how they stay in business. I sincerely hope this pet shop learns how to treat their clients or possible sells and allows new nicer owners to come in. But i will not be back. I like supporting local businesses but this business needs to seriously change owners to some friendlier people. I DO NOT RECOMMEND

Southside Pet Shop does NOT buy from puppy mills. I know because I previously worked there (2006). They buy from local breeders and take very good care off their puppies. Often times I would have to refuse a customer buying puppy that was not right for their home environment. (Some dogs dont do well with other dogs or children. Some dogs need a yard and not an apartment.) Now, if thats not caring about these puppies I dont know what is... Now that I am considering buying a puppy of my own (finally) I can think of no where else to go. Even though they dont currently have my breed I am happy just waiting until they get a litter in since I dont trust some other pet shops in town.

While I agree with the other reviews regarding the staff, I was taken in by the "mom and pop" atmosphere of the pet shop and purchased a puppy that I was assured was an australian shepherd purebred. As the puppy grew larger, it became very obvious that she was a Brittany spaniel and when I tried to talk to the owners about this error, I was met with hostility. The owners refused to consider an ethical response of a partial refund despite visual evidence of having sold me the wrong breed of dog. I love our pup, but am disappointed in the response and reaction of the store owners.

I just moved to the Iroquois neighborhood and I stopped in Southside to pick up a few things for my cats and dogs. Two ladies were working and they both were very nice and helped me a lot. They answered my questions and were very friendly. The store was very clean, the aquariums were in excellent condition. There were a few pups for sale that were in a clean cage with food and water and they looked very healthy. The prices are fair and to my knowledge they are a locally owned business, which is awesome. I will definitely be back.

Smell..it is full of animals. Does it sometime run out of feeders, they have to keep some on hand for the animals in the store. Look, this is not a chain. Its a mom and pop operation. All of you griping because big box stores with no staff are killing small business, well this is a small business. They get a truck once a week, they can not afford everything on the planet. But this is what a small business is. Be polite, dont run in the door at closing, and be understanding. Places like this are community assets.

I absolutely love this pet shop !! I was going to dollar stores & Wal-Mart to get my dog food ; the food was making them shed excessively & have allergic reactions ! Every since I have came here & bought SugarPlum (my chihuahua) eukanuba & LacyPooh (my hound/german sheppard) nutri source , they DONT bite their paws anymore & there fur is glowing !! They have the best employees who love to help & give you the best advice about your pets !! Thank you Southside Pet shop : ))

the animals here are safe and healthy they dont get their animals from places that dont feed them or puppy mills. the fish are in quaritine before they put them in the stock tank. they are very educational on their animals making sure that their customers are content and happy. I know the owners and they get quality animals and fish. All animals and fish are bred locally or in the United States

I recommend this place! The customer service is great and the staff is very willing to answer all of your questions and make sure youre puppy baby is happy and healthy. I suggested my neighbor get her pet from here because I heard good things....well she called me and told me she was blown away by how professional and caring they were! Plus her new baby is adorable! :)

Southside doesnt buy from puppy mills or BYBs. They are well taken care of. I raised a litter of very nice chi pups, i sold all of the litter but 2, i visited the shop and was very pleased with their place, They were able to place my last 2 pups in loving homes, I am even in contact with the buyers. They are wonderful people and I recommend them 100%.

I really like this pet shop. They have a pretty good selection of supplies for such a small shop, but most of all every animal there looks very healthy, and Ive never bought a sick pet from them. The staff is very friendly and you can tell they love animals.

This is the only pet shop I have found that sell fish that live linger than 3 weeks. Bought them in November and all are alive and well.
