My mom likes this place more than me. The doughnuts are pretty classic cake doughnuts, so theyre thicker and denser than the ones that I prefer with the big puffy holes in them. They glaze them with all sorts of stuff, like orange, or maple, or maple bacon. But the problem is under the glaze its all the same doughnut. Its not like other places where you can get a doughnut with blueberries mixed into the dough. Its a plain doughnut, or a chocolate doughnut. They have a lot of fillings though, like lemon creme, or boston creme, or napolian creme. If you dont get a filled doughnut, though, its going to be slightly dry. Thats not a big deal to most people (my mom loves them), but for me, dryness is a problem. It hurts my throat. So if youre like my mom, youll love it, but if youre like me... its tolerable. The prices are good!

What a great addition the area! Weve been lusting for a donut shop for month and weve got a solid one with Daylight. The selection is impressive with everything from you go to glazed or crème filled to the eclectic, but necessary choices including the bacon maple bar. Only sampled a few, but the chocolate crème filled are excellent and the bacon maple bar is likely to be my new favorite food soon! Delicious bacon sprinkled amongst this sweet friend makes for a tale that will be told until time stops...or until something equally delicious comes along. The quality of the donuts is truly what sets it apart from the local grocery stores - who do donuts well, but not great. This place isnt quite a Voodoo donuts, but its a great start and an excellent place to get your carb fix!

Poor Management doesnt make up for donuts. Yes, the donuts are made fresh, and they are good. Nothing life-changing. If you go to Hyvee first thing in the morning you can also get fresh out of the oven donuts. The worst part of this joint are the owners/managers. They are constantly sold-out of donuts, even at peak time in the morning. Instead of making MORE like a normal company, they think that putting a stupid piece of paper on the front door saying sorry, were sold out. You can find this stupid paper hanging on the front door as early as 10:30 a.m. I guess it would be pretty silly to make more donuts. This has happened to quite a few people I know. I cant appreciate a donut when they do something like that.

Limited selection a bunch of doughnuts with sprinkles. The one doughnut worth making the trip for (maple bacon topped) is sold out. I mean they open at 6am out of this doughnut by 7am. Even though thy are open until 1 pm they dont make more. Was informed to call an order a dozen the day before but the phone is never answered. The number that shows on google the voicemail is not set up. The number on my receipt goes to some guys voicemail. If you live around the neighborhood and hungry for not so great doughnuts this is your place. If not save yourself dissappointment and go to Hyvee, Wal-mart anywhere but Daylight Donuts. Avoid it like a vampire you can thank me later!

I do think these might be the best doughnuts in Iowa City, but there isnt a whole lot of competition. I went in the afternoon, and obviously they would be better in the morning when the doughnuts are fresh. The cake doughnuts (which are usually my favorite) where pretty bland, but the glazed sour cream was exceptional. They seem pretty hit or miss to me. I didnt try any of the fancy doughnuts, but based on their non cake doughnuts, I would be willing to go back and give them another try. If you have a doughnut craving, this is definitely a place to try, but dont get your expectations too high.

Chocolate covered strawberry.... Blueberry.... Old fashioned buttermilk..... And dozens of others including traditional glazed and chocolate covered. Iowa City had been without excellent home-made donuts for a long time.... Thats why the line is out the door most days. Saturday or Sunday? Get there early. This is good stuff! Im personally addicted to the apple fritters.... ask for crispy. Trust me. Did I mention you should get there early?

The donuts are incredible, and clearly some of the best in Iowa. That being said, the couple times I have been in there I have received service from some very rude individuals and felt like I was being a bother when asking about different kind of donuts. I personally would rather go to Hurts in Coralville or any Hy-Vee where the service doesnt make me feel so uncomfortable.

Phenomenal doughnuts! I think this is the only actual doughnut shop in town. The doughnuts are classically-made (think Dunkin rather than Krispy Kreme), and very tasty. Yes, they run out sometimes during the day, theyre only open from 8-1, and theres always a line. Thems the breaks. Its a local shop doing what they love, not a multinational corporation.

um....fat kid loves doughnuts is so wrong. first, they have red sprinkles, blue and yellow sprinkles, black, white, rainbow, dinosaur. secondly, i can name twenty donuts worth the trip. thirdly, if you like frozen donuts like at hyvee, or want to support walmart rather than a recently opened family run establishment, then id say enjoy yourself, sir.

When I lived nearby my girls absolutely loved to take their scooters over to Daylight Donuts rain or shine or sleet or snow. Once they were even on TV when they ran into cops being filmed by a news crew eating donuts with locals. If thats not authentic I dont know what is.

Best place in Iowa City for Donuts - and Im a Dunkin Donuts fan. Really fresh, especially early in the morning, and always sweet and satisfying. I once had a chocolate cherry fritter there and it was a religious experience.

The donuts are excellent. Need to get there early because they do sell out of the more popular ones. Coffee is really good and very decently priced. Nice that they have a sitdown area to enjoy a breakfast.

OK, but not that great. I suppose they are better than Dunkin, but that isnt a high bar for comparison. Hurts Donuts over in Coralville are better. Not worth going out of your way to try for sure.

I had the raspberry filled donut which has always been my go-to bakery item, and it was wonderful! This trip I tried a lemon filled donut which may now be my new favorite. Simply heavenly!

Great donuts! Just wish they had more of a selection, but that could be because by the time I arrive most people on their morning commute have already stopped.

Best donut place in Iowa City. Sour Cream & Old Fashioned ones are the best in my opinion. Blueberry ones taste just like muffins, perfect for coffee dunking.
