A young lady with Black hair and almost all black on helped me try to find a book on a medicical condition I have. She was polite and respectful. Unfortunately, my check out experience was not so delightful. I entered the check out lane from the right hand side of the store. Upon entering, I saw the sign that stated something about the line starting here. So I approach the counter beside an empty register, where I stood behind a couple that was completing their purchase. When they were finished, another couple began to approach the counter. In which, I told them to go ahead. At that moment, the cashier (tan skin, dark hair, and baby blue shirt) proceeded to tell me that I entered the line incorrectly. I stated to him the sign stated the line started here. He then responded with "there is also a sign behind telling you to wait there." I stared at him blankly, wondering why he did not inform me of this when I initially approached the "check out line." He then stared back at me, rolled his eyes, at that point, I moved behind a mother and her daughter. Once it was my turn to complete my purchase, I was curious to see if he was going to ask me to sign up for Barnes & Noble Membership. I was wondering this, because it was the first thing he asked every consumer. He waited until he had scanned all of my items to ask me, in which I responded with "yes, I would like to." Stunned by my answer, he said "you do?" Once again, I replied yes. He then asked me to fill out a paper with basic information- I asked him if he would like me to move aside so he could complete the other consumers waiting in line. In which he promply responded with "No. Its okay." Moral of my story is inform the consumer they are not in the correct line to complete their purchase. If someone is completing the paperwork for the membership, suspend the transaction, and check the next consumer out. Never assume someone elses intentions. I gladly let the couple go in front of me, eventhough they stated "But youve been waiting." Lastly, I stated to the young man I had just had blood drawn. I also had a culture completed on my leg due to Impetigo that I have been battling for ten days. If I gave this young man an ill look, I apologize. But in the end, treat your consumers as you would want to be treated when you are shopping. Doing so is how you retain talented individuals, and consumers that love shopping in your store. Two of the male employees on the floor looked overwhelmed and somewhat stressed out. Be good to your employees and build a culture that is warm and welcoming. I have always enjoyed your store. So, please, do not think I wrote this with ill intentions. P.S. If you have the consumer base, could you make the medical section larger? With a wider variety of books? If not, I can order them from your website (I live an hour away). Thank you, Elisha

One of the reasons I came to Evansville was Best Places to live Atlas gave the community high marks on number of book stores per population. That was before this store became a 1/2 city block, Books a Million closed (I estimate they were only 1/3 million), Borders came and went. Barnes & Noble is *huge*, well organized, every kind of reading material you can imagine, also e-books, and music, games, a restaurant inside, near the newspapers section, not as good a selection of foods as many other places, but if we want to stop and peruse some content before purchasing, there is that, and there are also seateries scattered thruout the store. The aisles are generous. We can pass other patrons. Sometimes I am seated on the carpet, browsing bottom shelves. Other people can easily get past me. They also do promotions with local and visiting authors. In the center of the store, near the escalators, theres customer service, where we can go ask about anything we were looking for and could not find, or want to order. Location is pretty darn good, even though theres construction and detours on the main street there, because you can drive into their parking area (construction permitting) from the North, West, and South sides. The South end has traffic light for fast egress vs. local traffic. #AMacReviews #Books

If you are in the least interested in books, and given the opportunity, youve likely visited the local Barnes & Noble here in Evansville. What is unique about this particular store, not much... I go to B & N out of boredom for the most part. When I buy books, I buy them from Ebay, Amazon, Alibris or visit the local Goodwills and the Used Book Warehouse, occasionally swinging into the Book Broker as well or one of the many other online book retailers found online. The quality of selection found online and the prices are not even comparable compared to the scope of the offerings in the store. This is for obvious economic reasons that limit "brick and mortar" establishments. The food in the cafe is mediocre as are the refreshments. Some of the seats are comfortable. If you are like me, you seek out value when spending your hard earned money. B & N offers the consumer little in the way of value. Ill end by saying the staff are all helpful and pleasant to deal with for the most part and Ive never experienced any rude treatment from any of them.

Only game in town for a brick and mortar book store. Nice café and knowledgeable staff, when you can find someone. Sadly they seem to be horribly understaffed. so much to the point of rarely seeing an employee out side of their music and video department, the childrens area, and a single cashier. Still its a great place to chill and pick up a good book. A note about their music department, b&n has an amazing selection of new and vintage reissue vinyl records. I love to go in and just spend time looking through them.

Its really great to have a bookstore in town where you can browse, read, meet friends, explore music, and hang out as long as you like without being pressured to buy something and move along. My wife and I had our first "date" here, even though neither of us would have called it that. Barnes and Noble is also an active part of the community, hosting stuff like concerts for the Suzuki Violin Students, and they deserve the communitys support in return.

This is definitely a place, where you can chill out for a bit and take your shoes off. The employees dont mind even if you dont buy anything....so if you just wanna borrow a book to read off the shelves or bring a laptop and just relax for a few hours.....then its all good. So grab a seat on any of the comfortable couches, chairs or floor and sip some coffee while you do it lol! :-)

Absolutely the best place to shop for books in the greater Evansville Tri-state area. Huge Childrens Department, with helpful and knowledgeable staff. Music/DVD Department has best selection of vinyl records anywhere in the area, at competitive prices. Good selection of games and collectibles, including Funko POP figures sold cheaper than anywhere else.

Horrible internet. Consistent dial-up grade bandwidth and latency at best. I know its not the purpose of a book store, but this is the only place in town that is comfortable, clean, quiet, has wifi, and is open late. Im forced to go to Panera instead. Everything would be perfect if the internet was upgraded or less limited.
