I went with my boyfriend to look and maybe buy a gun, he couldnt decide which he liked best so we figured we would purchase a gift card so he could come back with his father and they could make the decision together. I was going to buy it for him for our anniversary so I thought a gift card would be helpful in case I wasnt able to go with him when he decided to go back. I was told by the cashier (Reinie -sp?) that I could not purchase a gift card for someone who is buying a gun ,I was a bit confused, why they would sell gift cards if you can not give them to someone, but I left. So I called the next day and spoke with Kristen who is a manager/boss/owner not sure what her exact title is but she told me that the policy recently changed and the cashier might of forgot. She said that her employees have the right to deny anyone a sale, but in her cashiers defense she might of thought the gift card would be used by him, to buy me a gun, I explained to her that both, me and my boyfriend have Foid cards and that even if I didnt have a card and he did by me the gun (which was not the case) that would be between me and the law she said not true. I told her I dont understand why you have gift cards then, she was talking in circles and couldnt give a sensible answer. She said if someone smells like alcohol or marijuana they can refuse a sale, I said ok, but all of these things you are saying doesnt apply to us, so why were we told we couldnt purchase a gift card from your store, she didnt have an answer. she said maybe it was the way we looked, I said I dont know what that means, I said there are professional looking people that shoot and kill people all the time so appearance shouldnt be what they base their decision on if they want to sell a gift card, I told her the things she is saying are stupid, and make no sense and she got upset and hung on me. I will not spend my money at a business that judges you on appearance, I was not doing anything wrong, I understand guns are dangerous and they need to be cautious but I felt I was not sold a gift card (not a weapon) but a GIFT CARD because the cashier didnt feel like it, what her reason is I dont know, but will not go there again...

I have to agree with one of the previous posters here, the guy downstairs is rude and acting like his job is to make you never come back again. The people upstairs were always helpful and friendly to me. They have a security guy in the range whos very helpful, especially if you shoot first time, hell give you great tips. Really awesome guy. I brought a guest once, the website said you could bring a guest without a foid but then you have to use the same lane. I own a gun but wanted to try another guy from their collection. The guy downstairs, besides being rude, charged my guest for the range and for the gun that I rented (even though I paid for the same gun). WTF? Ok, I understand he charged him the range fee (even though it seems a bit unfair since were using the same lane) but charging twice for the same gun? My guest wasnt even interested in shooting the gun. Anyways. Not all the lanes have those binocular things so you can see if you hit or how accurate you hit your target. This sucks when its packed and you end up with a lane without one. I always bought ammo from them which is overpriced but then I would save on the range fee. Twice I bought brick of 22LR and used about 100 rounds each time. I wonder if I bring the remaining 800 rounds and tell them I bought it from them if theyll give me a range discount. I dont know. But anyways, the place could be so much better if it wasnt for the rude guy downstairs and the crazy rule that you have to wait at least for 1 second between your shots. WTF? Im trying to practice recoil accuracy (to see how accurate my second round fired is right after the first one) and I cant do that because you have to wait for a second. I was told the rule is in effect because if you shoot too fast then they think that patrons are shooting each other. The only reason I go there is because its the closest one. Its not horrible but do expect some crap from the guy downstairs and dont shoot too fast.

Ive gone here twice in the last week and Ill admit I have mixed feelings. Heres what Ive experienced so far: PROS: Very large selection of guns to buy or rent. $12 for unlimited rentals for the day. If youre interested in purchasing a gun that they have available to rent, theyll give you a handful of rounds to test fire no charge. The CFP class is as inexpensive as youll find. The CFP instruction is practical, to the point, and the instructor Jack has a lot of knowledge obtained over years of experience. They have a large staff. I was there on a Sunday and there must have been 7 or more employees working the gun counter. Most of the staff Ive encountered have been friendly and helpful (on the gauge of gun store salepeople). Good selection of accessories. They offer a free course for inexperienced shooters or for anyone who wants a lesson on safety and technique. CONS: The range is old. Picture 1970s. The ammo and guns are expensive compared to other shops in the chicagoland area. Ive been eyeing a pair and Midwest wants 50 over msrp on each. (I havnt tried haggling with them yet) Yes there are a couple employees to avoid, but they have enough that if you dont like the person youre dealin with just move onto another. They dont work on commission. It can get busy on weekends or after work have you may have to stand around for a couple minutes til someone frees up. They have a small case of "antiques" in the back and I was offput to see nazi armband and memorabilia. OVERALL: If you live downtown and youre looking for a place to shoot, learn about shooting, or youre interested in testing out before purchasing this is the place to go. If youre looking for somewhere cheap, keep looking around but you probably wont save too much without wasting it on gas. If youre going there to buy, do your research and dont overpay.

I have been going to the range for about a year and it was fine for what I would use it for. I am a younger guy, late 20s and am just starting out an interest in guns and learning about them. I have waited 40 minutes just to get service at the gun counter for a rental while I watched employees eating, sitting, texting and generally BS-ing with coworkers and customers. It could be my age but I am not the only one waiting sometimes. I wanted to PURCHASE 2 guns and finally got a workers attention, I asked a test question to see his knowledge, he didnt know the answer, so he lied, I didnt correct him. Stike 1. I asked if they sold rental guns, he flat out said "No" with no explanation or inquiry why I would want a range gun. It was a rare, hard to find gun that I was willing to overpay for. Strike 2. He then just walked away to help a customer who had just arrived at the counter that he knew. Strike 3. Not only did that employee blow a sale. I probably wont go back. There are cleaner gun ranges and with better customer service in the area. People choose to go to MW Guns, they should act like they want people there. Its not worth the wait and the rudeness.
