There is nothing special at all about Treasure Island. Its really a shame that they dont have any other big grocery stores in the Hyde Park area. When Whole Foods opens, Im sure their business will be greatly affected. In line with most of the other reviews on here, everything in this store is overpriced. EVERYTHING. So keep that in mind when if you plan on doing major shopping. You may just want to drive elsewhere where you can get the same products at a cheaper price. I guess thats the most baffling thing about this store. You would think they would have a larger selection of products that arent available at other stores to justify the prices. But they are the same things you can get at Jewel and even Sav-A-Lot. Its 2 saving graces that doesnt make this review a 1 star. The staff here is super friendly. They go a little above and beyond the normal reception you get at a grocery store. The 2nd one would be their hot meals. If you go in for lunch, the food is pretty good. You definitely will get what you pay for.

This review is an attempt to bring respect back to true bakers where, unfortunately, Treasure Island at Hyde Park truly lacks. As I recently moved to Hyde Park, I was looking forward to finding a supermarket with a decent bakery. I was severely disappointed. It has been a few weeks that I have been trying a variety of sweets; you know, to give the benefit of the doubt. From the cream puffs and Napolean to the Red Velvet and Cheescake, I can safely conclude that the bakery does not know what they are doing in both creating the sweets themselves or even managing the storage times. The creams from both the cream puffs and the Napolean tasted as though they came from the same Cool Whip container. The Red velvet could have been better stored in a freezer, perhaps it would have been softer (and maybe could have had a better taste than this seemingly 2 weeks old disaster). And, for heavens sake, how can you mess up a cheescake??? I truly recommend a change in management for the bakery, or at least, an introductory class in bakery.

and are insolent enough to not admit it. And I have faced this thrice with deli meats section now (in the past 2 weeks) and once with a cashier who wouldnt admit or when proved wrong apologize that she just over-charged me for produce that she didnt care to check. I have heard others say the same thing, today at the cashier next to me, so its not just me. I never used to check earlier just sign the card and carry the bags home, but with TI Hyde Park, you gotta be careful. They are thieves, rude and lazy ones at that. I wonder where the good old day of customer service has gone. I am ready to pay a premium for quality and service and while I will admit they have variety and I love their bakery products, the quality of meats is dismal and service, well, absent. I have seen Walmart employees happier and prouder at their work and provide better environment for shopping. I hope for the communitys sake, they learn!

Treasure Island in Hyde Park is the only market I shop. Im a senior and have PACE pick me up. All my shopping needs are in the 55th St. Plaza. As far as prices are concerned, it can be pricey. But you have to look for the bargains, which I always do. I like the staff, know most of them until summer when they bring in the students. I look forward to having lunch in the cafe since most of the really good restaurants in the area are gone. When, and if Whole Foods opens, Ill check them out but Ive experienced shopping at Whole Foods in San Francisco, Atlanta, and Chicago and fairly sure the prices will be about the same. Waiting to see how TI and WF compete with each other. What is very important besides prices, is some place to sit when I get tired as I often do. But I must say the tidiness has been slipping lately. Wish they would pay closer attention to the tables in the cafe.

The quality of Treasure Island declined since I live in Hyde Park, steadily over the years, and the prices increased. Right now, its the most expensive grocery store in Hyde Park, besides only Whole Foods. Often, Whole Foods offers better prices for some items. People in charge of Treasure Island have no vision, and the way store is working seems a bit chaotic. The best example is some app they had for grocery rewards: first, they put some posters about that, it maybe worked there two weeks, than they quietly removed it. They call their store "the most European supermarket," but I guess, they have never been in Europe: they dont really have any large selection of European products, not more than Marianos, for example.

I shop here regularly and I love the produce section. However, you would be better off buying non produce items at a big warehouse store for the same price. The customer service is great sometimes and terrible at other times. The young people seem to have attitudes and always look miserable. Apparently my cashier was unaware that there were no large produce bags and so I couldnt close the kale. She literally "threw" the open produce bags towards the bagger. My food went everywhere. So annoying after a long day of taking care of injured people. Cheap labor isnt cheap if it cost you customers! Wont be going there anymore.

Hi, I have never had a bad experience at Hyde Park Treasure Island until I tried their deli. After eating beef stew soup I have been puking for 2 days in a row, non-stop. I am not allergic to any foods, and I have never had anything like that happen to me before. When I went to talk to the store manager about the incident, she suggested that I was lying. Despite the fact that I brought my receipt back, she told me that she was not going to reimburse the soup, because I did not bring the product back! Next time I will make sure to go and puke all over the customer service to get reimbursed!

This grocery store offers Whole Foods prices without Whole Foods quality. As someone mentioned the Hyde Park area is a grocery desert. If you drive the best bet is to drive to Trader Joes or shop at other areas in the south loop like Target or Whole Foods. They do have nice produce but Hyde Park Produce is way better. Some regular food products that are sold at Target,Walmart, Meijer etc are marked $2 to $4 higher than those stores. Not worth the convience. Just drive 10 minutes up Lake Shore drive and shop there.

This store has pretty bad flow. Its very confusion that the organic food is separated from the rest of the food. And if you ever want eggs on a Monday, good luck... there are times you go in and there arent any eggs on the shelves - organic or not. On a positive note, they sell Boars Head products, which is delicious. The staff is pretty friendly and can be helpful, but overall this is not my favorite store in Chicago.

I make it a personal challenge to come up with a recipe that includes some rare ingredient that I cannot find at Treasure Island. They have such a diverse selection of produce, dry goods, home goods, and miscellaneous things you never knew you were missing in your life. That being said, the store is very large and poorly laid out. There are three different cheese sections! Make sure you have plenty of time to explore.
