ONE OF THE WORST, MOST UNPROFESSIONAL RETAIL EXPERIENCES IVE EVER HAD! ! ! I have an old Ross 10 speed bike from the eighties... I bought it for $40.00 last year at a local thrift store. It was in great shape, but I spent a month or so cleaning, polishing, disassembling, lubing and otherwise replacing several key parts to really bring it back to life... And now its a really great bike that looks great too! That was a year or so ago. . . Here in St. Augustine there really arent many choices when it comes to bike stores. This place has a great location and a great selection of bikes and parts, no doubt. . . Unfortunately, the people who run the place are very self absorbed and RUDE, and they treat their customers like trash! Ive always felt like this whenever I went there but figured I was just having a bad day or something. But I dont think this is the case. Not only do they ignore you, they just dont seem to care whether they do any business at all. Its almost like they believe they could get along just fine without any customers at all. The wife pretty much sits on her butt most of the time reading magazines, while her husband deals with parts and service. She WILL lift a finger or two to ring the register, but dont expect her to look you in the eyes. I dont know. Maybe I would be treated better if I spent more money there? In any event, I recently purchased both a tire and a tube there for my road bike. They are both oddly sized so I cant find them outside of a real bike shop. Anyway, as soon as I pulled the tube from its package and pumped the first blast of air into it I could hear the air rushing out. It had a hole in it! I was not pleased. Trust me, its not easy mounting and dismounting these types of tires/tubes. So of course I went back to return the tube (a $5.00 tube mind you) and the husband immediately told me the hole was my fault!! You could only imagine my surprise at this point. Obviously it was NOT MY FAULT. It came directly out of the package this way - - from the package to the pump! It was clearly a defective item but I was told that tubes (and apparently all mass produced items?) were NEVER defective!!! Im sure we can all agree on that one, right? ? Ever had to return a broken or defective item before? Ever been told it was YOUR FAULT? ? ITS MADDENING TO SAY THE LEAST!! So in the end they would rather argue over with me over a $5.00 tube and PERMANENTLY LOST ME AS A CUSTOMER than to do the right thing and replace it. And let me make this clear - I WILL TELL EVERYONE I KNOW AND EVERYONE I MEET TO NEVER SHOP THERE! ! ! You might think that I just had a bad experience - on a personal level - but I would advise anyone thinking this to have a look at the other two or more reviews to date. . . I thought I was alone, but I found that I was not. And you too will see that IM NOT ALONE. All I can do is to urge anyone thinking of doing business with these people to think again. Steer clear of these nutcases if you care about friendly and professional service and dont like being cheated out of your money with inferior and defective parts that are non-returnable. If you do chose to give these nasty thieves your business, all I can say is I wish you good luck.

A class of Bicycle Emergency Responce Teams were training in the St. Augustine Beach area last month. The instructor had used this shop in the past and recomended that if we needed anything for us to stop in since it was the only shop for miles around. When a couple of classmates and I needed some minor work done on our bikes we decided to stop in during class (all 6 of us). Now we had on our uniforms (police and fire personel) and talked to the couple that ran the shop. One of us needed a rear mount kick stand, he was told that after looking at his bike it could not be equiped with one. But another officer in the class already had one on the same model bike. Well that went over like a lead balloon. She said that it should not be there. I needed some work done on my front roter for my disk brakes. The man looked at it and said I needed a new roter as he rolled my bike back to me without saying any word about doing the work. Very weird for a shop to say it needed to be done but basicly in not so many words NOT HERE. Out of all six of us at least four of us were very willing to spend some good money in their shop. We could not believe how uncooperative they were and their attitude toward us, that we all just left without spending a dime. They made it clear that they were not in the buisness of bicycle repair. They wanted to sell bikes and do repairs if they had to just for their bike sales. We all walked out of the store with a very bad taste in our mouths. There were some other minor things that some of the other officers noted but I have rambled on long enough. Stay away from this shop is basically what I am saying. I hope this helps.

This cycle shop is located on Anastasia Island in the Publix Grocery store plaza. A young couple, Jeff & Joy own the shop. They do repairs and their cycle selection is great. I found the price of cycle clothing and accessories to be quite a bit lower than other cycle shops. However, the best thing about going there is that there is no high pressure to buy something, yet they are helpful and answer any questions you may have. I have been to many shops over the years and this one is my favorite: good pricing, pleasant, no pressure, professoinal, and knowledgable. Who could ask for anything more?

Jeff and Nancy are awesome. I have Purchased 2 Cannondales here over the past two years and Recently I have special ordered my third. When I have had questions or needed parts and accessories they have always been there for me. The have great knowledge of bicycles both on road and off and they are both active with charity rides and working parties on local mtn bike trails. I am sure you could save two or three dollars on the internet searching for a specific part but the knowledge and the experience and the idea of "keeping it local " are well worth a few extra dollars.

I am very much a novice when it comes to road bikes and I had hoped to get some advice from professionals about the setup of a used Cannondale R6 a friend sold me. Stopped by the shop and asked about getting a little help. I fully expected to pay for their time and assistance but the woman made it very clear that since I did not purchase my bike from them they would not help me. I was told to go to another bike shop 30 miles away. I will never shop at A1A Cycle Works.
