The past month, my dad and I have been rebuilding a pair of engines together. This requires many trips to the autoparts store. On the increasingly few occasions that we go to Advanced Auto, we have been shocked by how little they know about basic mechanics and how rude they are defending the absolute swill they sell as facts. Ex 1. We went to get an oil filter. One of the clerks informed me that a filter was great because it had cotton instead of paper and weighed more. You could "feel" the quality in its heaviness. 1) A manufacturer would NEVER use an organic material like cotton in a filter because they could not control the weave or size. They are all synthetics. 2) Weight determines quality?? Seriously? The filter was rated 96% exclusion. The other 4% would be fine particles that can damage your cam shaft and other engine parts over time. Not interested. Ex 2. I needed a thermostat for my engine. She looked it up and told me that the OEM was for 185 degrees. I told her it wasnt and asked if there was another temperature. She argued with me. He computer said it was OEM and a database as complex as one at Advanced Auto could never possibly be wrong.... I pulled up the specs and my engine calls for 192 degrees. 185 degrees was for the very uncommon 1.6L Miata (sold in Japan only). While I was looking up the information she stormed off and decided to no longer find a thermostat for us. If you have a thermostat that is too low you can prematurely kill your engine, because the ECU wont control the temperature of the engine. Instead it runs off of the manufacturers tables. Ex 3. We needed some high temperature zip ties. We would have preferred plastic (cheap). When we asked another clerk where they were, he told us that plastic couldnt be high temperature. We argued. He remained firm and said there was only one type of plastic and it would melt. My father looked absolute stunned as he explained that there are MANY kinds of plastic and ABS would be fine. He only stopped arguing when we explained that we were both Chemical Engineers. The average person who goes to Advanced Auto needs good advice. These people sound extremely confident in the crap that say. That is dangerous, because if you dont know much about cars, youre going to believe them and you wont get the life you should out of your vehicle even though youre tying to properly maintain it. If they dont know something, they should say that. We will only shop at NAPA and Autozone from now on.

These guys saved our butts. My wife went there to get a battery for our GL 450 and no sooner had it been loaded into the trunk it wouldnt start. They would have replaced it but since Mercedes was wise enough to make replacing the battery near impossible unless its done at an "authorized dealer" she was stuck along with our 3 year old daughter. Jump starting it does no good. A GL 450 will not go into drive unless the battery is at the voltage MB decides, whether the car is running or not. Nothing electrical would operate even though the engine was running. The battery is under the front passenger seat. To replace the battery it requires pulling the passenger seat all the way forward which you cant do if the battery is dead. It also requires cutting the carpet above the battery to get to a rivet and to remove the ac ducting sitting right above it. AC ducting above a battery? Thats bright. The guys at the parts store tried to replace the battery but due to MB engineering they couldnt get to it. However, after I arrived we came up with the idea of rigging up the new battery via jumper cables to the old one and that made it so it could be put in drive. I was able to wiggle the jumper cable in under the seat and luckily made contact with the terminal to put some power to it fooling the car into thinking the battery was replaced. Im grateful there are people out there like the two guys at this shop. They went out of their way to help us in a dire spot.

I have been going to this store for 3 years now, and after today I will never return. My faith in this store has been destroyed due to terrible customer service and low quality parts. 2 years ago this store always seemed helpful, however in that short amount of time, everything has changed. My confidence first wavered when I purchased a brand new egr valve that was faulty. My exchange for the new valve was less than straightforward even though I had my receipt, they wanted me to pay for a new one. I argued and eventually got the replacement. I went to buy a new blinker relay the other day, sure enough, it was faulty. Took the bad relay in today and asked for a replacement, the whole time the older gentleman "helping" me insisted it was my vehicle. Funny, it wasnt doing this before the relay, so I insist on a replacement. I was handed ANOTHER bad relay, this time the gentleman states he will not give another. Im sitting in his parking lot, he doesnt offer to scan, check, do anything other than stare dumbfounded. I will NEVER patronize this store again, and if you want quality parts, i suggest you do the same.

Im usually pretty critical of stores that have employees that dont know anything, have poor customer service, and in general cant offer you a solution to whatever your need is without giving you a 1-800 number, telling you to drive elsewhere around town, etc. Luckily, none of that applies at the Advance Auto in Parker. I stopped in there once to pick up something and was pleasantly surprised that the employee was a "car guy" and really knew what he was talking about. Next time I needed car parts, I went back and every time Ive been there since I always talk to a very knowledgeable employee with great customer service. Finding places nowadays with good employees that provide good service is rare, and this place is worthy of my hard earned cash.

Had a really good experience with their Online ordering the other day. Made an order online for a brake rotor, then came in about an hour later. An attendant was at the checkout and I mentioned my order number. He located the order in under 10 seconds, went and got the part in 10 seconds (it had already been pulled off the shelf) and checked me out in about another 10 seconds! I was in a rush and didnt want to be waiting around and was really happy with how this went.

We just called this location to get pricing on a dash mat for our new bmw x5, we were impolitely told by "Ken" that we should look on their website since thats the "easiest". Really? This company has hired some real losers! I guess they want to go bankrupt with the employees and managment they keep around. We will never go back to ANY advance auto parts. And if your wise you will go elsewhere too! The only thing id bring these assholes is used motor oil!

I dont but rarely rate a 1-2 star , but this place I have tried repeatedly to give them a fair chance . Knowledge - very disappointed . Customer service - wow ever heard of people skills ? All around after trying and trying again I will not return to this store here or any other location for this company . Will drive further everytime to checker/ OReilly to have people that are polite and knowledgeable .
