The sales guys here are generally friendly, but inexperienced and not fully trained on the features of the equipment. This particular store is pretty cramped compared to other locations. As for the service dept: well, I know bike techs can be snooty, but the techs here act like theyre rock stars working at an A+ boutique racing shop! I took my daughters school beater in for new brakes, and the tech gives me a look as if hes irritated Im there and rudely asks me what I want. I say, "Id like new brakes for my bike", and he looks at me as if I was speaking another language and slowly repeats "new brakes for your bike...", condescendingly, pretending not to understand. I say, "yes, you know, brakes - Id like to get new calipers and levers and cables, so itll stop better". He looks even more irritated and says, "do you have a reservation"? I find out the place has a 10 day waiting list for service! I tell him no thanks and leave. I cant believe a place this rude has a 10 day waiting list. Perhaps theyre understaffed and unskilled, making them really slow, I dont get it. In contrast, the service dept at the performance bike in Oceanside is so nice in comparison (I gave a review over there too) - they actually help you and sometimes can do the service while you wait. They also generally give you good prices and sometimes freebies when you buy your equipment there. I once had a recall done there for a bike I bought somewhere else, and they replaced a flat tire on it for free. The Sorrento Valley and Phoenix stores are better as well. Ill try the Laguna Hills or Fountain Valley locations. Maybe their service dept is acceptable.

Small is the word Id use. The workshop is about the same size as most other Performance shops, but the floor is probably half to 1/3. Now dont get me wrong the inventory is not lacking due to size, they sure do cram it all in, their gloves, bars and other selection is better than most. Tucked away next to Dicks sporting goods I usually ride to here from JWA area and I like how they are partial to adjustments for those that ride in. I had to get a tune up a few months ago and the waiting list was weeks, but I bent a RD hangar on the way in so I was mashing in a low gear and 10 minutes later it was fixed. I could have made it back and they could have said tomorrow or later in the week or next, or I could have done it myself. I didnt have a tool on me that day so it was a blessing. I ended up going for gloves, but bought more accessories and gear. The computer system they use sucks. My home shop is Oceanside and when they look me up by phone or last name its usually ok, but I just give them my card, its easier. Every time I come here, they can never find me, unless I give them my card. Not my name, address, phone, its a bit of a hassle to carry around another item when I dont even carry tubes or air most of the time. I guess Ill have to remember my code. Im a little mad at myself they were selling a Grio Aeon for $75.00, but it was as L of the Rabobank colorway because someone ordered it and didnt like it. 4 hours later I came in after work and it was gone.

I walked into this place on a Thursday morning with my bike, hoping to spend a nice amount of cash with some new tires, a tune-up and a distance meter. As I walked in, another gentleman in front of me brought in his bike that he had recently purchased from them, looking to do some VERY minor maintenance for it. The gentleman that was working there (and also standing behind the bike workshop counter area) explained to the customer that no one there could work on his bike, no matter the job. He said he could leave the bike there, and pick it up the next day, but the customer refused and was pretty annoyed. The guy working there then asked me Can I help You? and I said "Apparently not. I was hoping to spend some cash here, but you cant work on my bike? "No" he said... I then said "Interesting, a bike shop that cannot work on bikes. I guess Ill take my business elsewhere. I ended up at Rock and Road Cyclery about 5 miles from them. Not only did they do all the work I was looking to get done, they gave me my tune-up and fixed my brakes FOR FREE! When I told them what happened to me at Performance, they laughed and said that it was their loss. I couldnt agree more. Take your business to them, for a more professional bike shop...

I have received good service from this shop. I was going to give it four stars only because it doesnt have a huge selection of Mountain Bikes, but considering the location, Im sure they have to cater to the cruiser style bike riders. That being said, I received great service and work performed on my bike. Specifically from their mechanic JT. Hes done everything thing from a full frame replacement for me, to a small derailleur adjustment that I just couldnt seem to get right. Also, it seems like I always get the same sales rep, who is real friendly and willing to do price matches on parts. As many of us, Im on a tight budget, and Performance has always been willing to negotiate labor costs, or do price matching. Also, check their online sales for good deals. ....I just talked myself into upgrading them to 5 stars.

The owner of this performance is greedy, terrible, and knows nothing about bikes. I went in to buy a new set of wheels and tires. I brought an ad which sold the tires for cheaper and asked them to price match which is in their store policy. However, after 20 minutes of the owner questioning the legitimacy of the ad I brought, he basically decided that he did not want to do it! Then he proceeds to charge me for the $500 wheelset with a very ungrateful and cold attitude as if I had just tried to swindle him by trying to price match. When I ask if he could put on the cassettes for me he charges me another $10 and tries to charge me another $10 for putting on tires and tubes. This place is ridiculous and the owner is obviously only out to make money and overall customer service is terrible!

Spent over $1500 at this location and you would of thought they were doing me a favor. Knowledge is hit or miss depending on who eventually helps you out. Long story short, you do your best to be tolerant of their lack of politeness and positive attitude. Best to shop there with the understanding that its a bike mechanic shop that happens to also sell bikes. This way you wont be as disappointed. After leaving the shop, I actually made a 2 hour car trip to avoid these guys for a hard to locate part despite knowing they had it available in Tustin. There are some great independent shops in Irvine, with great customer service worth spending a little more at so as to engage with a pleasant person.
