Besides being a wonderful supermarket for those with food allergies or vegan lifestyles, New Frontiers offers a very large food court area that is fairly overwhelming. Theres a full-service deli, a pizza oven, a sushi bar, soups, a salad bar, a food bar, a grill, a wok station for stir-fry, and a coffee/gelato shop. New Frontiers is now considered a lunchtime "tie-breaker" for my co-workers and I when we cant agree on what to get for lunch. Thus far, Ive enjoyed the Tuscan Panini sandwich (salami and prosciutto with pesto spread), some rotisserie chicken, the beef lasagna and assorted pastas and veggies. All were enjoyable. Ive had two misses with the coffee bar, though. The blended mocha and the blended vanilla chai were lackluster to me. Maybe the baristas are still learning their craft? You do pay a premium for this food, though. The food/salad bar will cost you $7.99/lb. The sandwiches and burgers run from $7 to $9. The sushi ranges from $7 to over $13. For general grocery shopping, youll also notice a gratuitous mark-up for familiar name-brand items ($5.89 for orange juice?). That being said, the food is natural and mostly organic and the produce is from local growers. Definitely check it out!

Huge prices but some great items: Fresh Pierogi, Olives, Deli stuff, Cheeses, Wines. Ripoff on many items like fish, Veges, & most Dry goods. Dairy section is good. Most staff is super nice, but Corp. always directs them to make this place a hassle. They stop carrying stuff that you like & they then can screw up a big wholesale special order. They owe me $400 of bottled Tuna, that has been taking over a month. I was at first given 66 bottles of the wrongly labeled stuff. Returned it & they still cannot get it right. Prior to that...did get a great deal on 2 cases of fine local wine. Great local vino selection. Hot bar is often boring &/or old. The cooks do not give a damn it seems. They also keep jacking up the already insane prices.

I used to love this place when it was New Frontiers and shopped there weekly. Im not sure what happened with the store management but the last time I shopped there (about a month or so after they completely went to the darkside), I was followed by multiple employees. One short old dude was particularly annoying and kept pretend hacking and coughing right behind me. He finally signaled another employee to keep watch. I promptly paid for the items in my cart and never again returned. And its not like I looked suspicious. I was just dressed in my work attire (slacks and a polo). If you dont want non-white people in your store post a sign in your window so you can save us the hassle!

Unfortunately there were no bowls available for the soups that are made for you after you choose the vegetables etc., we had to ask numerous times. A clerk in a different aisle we asked for help from who had also worked at New Frontiers was not very pleasant he has always seemed anxious to help out before. I did like the choice of pre-made healthy type entrees. Also I did get a nice fleece jacket. But this is not the Whole Foods I have seen in Oak Park, Illinois nor as nice as New Frontiers was. I think taking a different stance as a new store rather than trying to replicate New Frontiers would be good. Marne Trevisano

The only place within 40 miles (from Santa Maria, CA) that I can find certain meat alternatives like Quorn brand. A few other items not found in regular grocery stores can be found here. (Dont mention Lassens Foods, as they lost my business permanently for being homophobic Mormon bigots that contributed large sums of money to Prop H8.) It is a bit pricey, which is weird since SLO is a college town. You would think they would be more accomodating to people on a budget. Most cashiers I have dealt with are friendly. A lot of CUSTOMERS I have seen in the store are snobby and RUDE.

The people who claim this store is overpriced are probably used to shopping at Wallmart!! Seriously, if you value the quality of your food, then you are used to paying extra for organic products... New Frontiers ORGANIC products are fairly priced (same as Whole Foods), but do not buy anything that is not organic, because it will be overpriced. If you want organic foods and you are budget conscious, heres my technique: First I shop at Trader Joes and what I cant find there, I buy at New Frontiers. I find the staff very friendly. They have never been snobby or rude to me.

Sad (yet overpriced) produce & poor selection of "everyday" items could be forgiven, were it not for the disinterested-to-downright-rude staff and rotten food served at the deli. I expected higher prices -read: the jump from ridiculous to astronomical- but I really was hoping that the selection would improve along with staff training. To my surprise, what we got was "pre-fab" foods brought into the bakery & deli, with no attention given to the expiration dates &/or molding foods contaminating everything else in the case.

Its ok, and I can sometimes find what Im looking for in Vegan/Vegetarian dishes, but it doesnt have the variety that was there when it was "New Frontiers" market. It still has salad selections like before, but I cant always find the simple Vegan foods (without nuts or seeds) that I can take home and enjoy all week. I esp. miss the Tofu egg salad substitute that "New Frontiers" had most of the time. I go back and forth between "Whole Foods" and "Lassens" so I can find some foods I can eat.

New frontiers carries a lot of fresh local produce at a decent price (it’s organic and fare trade its decent price for what you buy.) There supplement selecting is a bit small if you’re looking for supplements you’d be better of stopping over at the vitamin Shoppe. There Vegan Desserts at the deli are really good “I highly recommend the vegan carrot cake.” Overall a grate place for natural food and on days that’s there’s no farmers markets a grate place for Fruit and veggies.

I dont know why everyone is down talking this store because it is amazing. I am visiting from out of town and it has the freshness of our local co op mixed with the diversity of specialty items like a whole foods, without the price tag of "whole paycheck". All the employees were knowledgeable and knew exactly what I was looking for. Great produce, bulk and supplement sections. Also had all my favorite brands.

Beautiful, well laid out. There are always bargains if you are willing to be flexible in your shopping. Most of the staff is knowledgeable. However, I recently asked an employee what "cream of tartar" is. I knew it was for baking, but did not know what it was made of. The gentleman replied that it was the base for tartar sauce. He was old enough to know better and if he did not know, he should have said so.

The employees at this store are always nice and helpful, it makes for a pleasant shopping experience. The house made sushi is good for lunch, also the noodle bar. This store could have a better/larger grocery selection, and while some prices are good, overall the store is a little expensive. Great selection of local and specialty beers.

Love California Fresh Market. Whats not to love about it. * Except tacos in deli not sure how someone can screw up tacos and burritos but that is one area that needs improvement. Every time Ive got either taco, burritos cold...Just Cold. Gross nothing worse than a cold tortillas.
