I think this place is above 3 stars, but, because I gave Donut Haven 4 stars, I can only give Donut Star 3. My friend Scott raves about this place constantly, and it is the only donut shop he will visit. One of the reasons he gives, is that they use many more natural ingredients than other donut shops. He and I both love apple fritters, and the thought of a fritter with real apple chunks inside has a lot of appeal. But, I never made it here until tonight. I dont care for donuts that often, and Donut Haven is so much closer... Well, Scott is moving to Oregon on Monday, and his wish was to come to Donut Star tonight. So I went for the first time. I got an orange cruller (I can not resist orange flavored sweets) and a blueberry cream cheese danish. The cruller was waaaaaaaay too sweet for my tastes, and I have a huge sweet tooth. Maybe its because they use natural sugar as opposed to corn syrup or something? I dont know, but after only two bites I felt a cavity forming. The blueberry cream cheese danish was OK...it beats out a lot of other danishes, but its not that great. I couldnt even tell cream cheese was in it. Now, this was a midnight visit (the place is open 24 hours, a big plus), so maybe I wasnt eating the best possible donuts. But because Donut Haven is so much closer, and I find their donuts a little more to my style, I go there instead.

Best donuts Ive had in a decade. The maple bar was fresh and a tiny bit crispy on the edges, cool on the inside but not doughy. The maple was perfectly smooth and sweet and melty in your mouth. The raspberry filled donuts were perfectly glazed, again cool on the inside without being doughy, with rich and smooth filling. Donuts here are A+++++. Really great donut joint.

This was my first time going here. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because the lady was really nice. However, the donuts on the other hand were really greasy. I got the dozen of mixed and after eating 1 it felt like I had rinsed my mouth with oil. Now I am stuck with a bunch of them that my while family wont eat. Sorry for the bad review but, not a good donut.

I stopped by here after going by Donut Haven (which was closed) and I was thrilled. I was visiting the area from Alabama and had a Donut craving. Bought a dozen donuts, about 8 different types, all for $9.50. Every one was delicious and huge. The lady running the store was very patient as I took a while selecting my donuts. Highly recommend!!

Although the family based business is located at a fairly good location, most donuts are ordered over the phone early in the morning or afternoon for pickup the following. Morning. or afternoon. Fairly. High volume in the morning. And on the weekend. The coffees. are Farmers Bros coffees. No pets or restrooms are allowed or available.

This place was as average as they come and I think the 5 star reviews must be mostly from friends or family. There was no wait and the owner was very nice, but the doughnuts were mediocre and the had a very basic selection. You can find donuts like this anywhere (the service was very good though).

Super cozy neighborhood doughnut house thats open all the time for that sweet tooth craving! Nice variety of doughnuts with some other breakfast sandwich selections. The shop has its own parking, which is super convenient. Friendly service. They can take credit/debit cards now for a fee.

I drive 20 minutes each way every Saturday morning. Always fresh products, very attentive staff, nice and unusual selection of tasty treats. The raised donuts are fresh, soft and nicely topped, the cake donuts are never crunchy and always leave you wanting one more.

The donuts here are both amazing and cheap. Great place to get donuts if youre in Hillcrest. The buttermilk donuts are especially good. Note that they charge extra for credit cards so cash is recommended.
