This was a very disappointing Road Runner store compared to their other stores (San Diego, etc.). I think half the employees were stoned, and when they didnt have the shoes that I needed in my size, they made me fill out my own order form for shipping and transfer, and then sent me the wrong pair anyway, despite my detailed transfer numbering and description. They must have edited the form, since they also charged me $40 more than the price marked at the store. You can normally count on Road Runner to be one of the few stores that actually trains their staff, and has employees that takes pride in the customer experience. In this case, the Redwood City store was not such a place. I have lived in LA, Philadelphia, Washington DC and San Diego, and I have never suffered such total customer service incompetence, across the board, be it in running shoes, massage, electronics, etc. as the stores in Redwood City. Road Runner Sports, sadly, is just yet another example. Moving away from this "hyphy" place as soon as possible. Maybe if Mayor Newsom would insist on prosecuting more than 4 homicides out of every 500, we could get some of these idiots in SF and Redwood City retail out of these stores and behind bars! Until then, Ill be shopping on-line.

I came here with my friend who was looking for running shoes and gear. The store was pretty empty so they asked if we wanted to try the customized machines to analyze our feet. I always get shin splints so I happily obliged. The measurements were free but if you want to purchase the customized insoles, they are $75. This is actually not bad at all considering normal insoles cost about $50. Of course, Im a sucker and I ended up buying them. Im not sure that Ive really felt a big difference using the customized insoles but then again I havent really put very many miles on them. The workers are very friendly and address you by name. They bring out as many pairs of shoes as you want and help you pick out something that works. However, when they get busy you can expect a loooonnnnggg wait. Prices are higher than most sporting goods but I suppose its tailored towards a certain group of consumers. I probably wont be shopping here for anything in the near future but its nice to know that theres a specialty running store at my disposal.

This was the first shop that I went to as a beginning runner, so I might have some personal nostalgia for it. The staff do seem to be very knowledgeable. At times, I felt like each employee was trying to preach their own style of running, though. It think its more helpful, especially for a new runner like myself (at the time), for the employees to acknowledge the existence of many styles and purposes for running. They do this, of course, but the might stand to do it a bit more. For some reason, I like that it is a chain store, despite that not usually being a good thing for me. This location doesnt feel like a chain store though. I learned a bit about running, a lot about shoes, and ended up getting set up with just enough gear to be a prepared runner. I dont go in for most of the accouterments of running; just a pair of good shoes, good socks, and some running shorts, but even still, I feel like this store had a lot to offer me. Ive moved, away from this store, but Im lucky to be near another location.

While the service SEEMS great, I agree with a previous reviewer that lack of disclosure on the VIP membership terms eroded my trust to the point where I will no longer shop at this store. Beware: the VIP membership automatically renews annually at $26.99. They talked me into it without disclosing these terms by telling me that I would get $20 off my purchase if I became a member. In fact, the discount is 10%, so for a shoe that costs $120, the savings were $12, not $20. In the end, I paid $8 more than the best price online, $20 for the VIP membership and will pay another $26.99 12 months from now. The biggest problem I have: They never disclosed the annual automatic renewal fee of $26.99 verbally. Its in the literature if by chance you read it. Plus they put my daughter in a womens shoe when she still can fit into a kids shoe. Im going to return the shoes and the VIP membership and not shop there again.

I bought a pair of Brooks in December 2015 from this store. At the time they sold me on the Roadrunner VIP membership by saying all the nice things and benefits about it. Within six months of wearing the shoe , the stitches are coming off while the sole of the show itself is in good condition. When I called them to see if they can do anything about it, the customer support representative on the line advised me to contact Brooks directly as the 90 days period for returning the Shoe is over. As I did not have the receipt, I asked if they can help by printing out the details of my purchase from their system. To my surprise , they refused. When you go to the store to buy something , they will give you a good sales pitch about the VIP membership until you buy it . But when you go back for a help , they sure do not treat you like VIP. Do not fall for that VIP membership ....

the store makes you pay a membership to get a discount. So do not bother going in the store if you do not have a membership for #1. Second I tried to call the San Carlos store and it only rings two times before going straight to voice mail. (Shaking My Head) because when you walk into the San Carlos store there are literally like 6 people working in a small store, doing nothing but talking on the walkie talkies they provide for the employees. This is why I am giving this store a bad review because the customer service is no good when you are trying to call the store on the phone. I literally called 8 times and nobody picked up the phone and they need to change the setting on the phone. Two rings is not enough time for someone to answer the phone, unless the employees are diverting the call in the store? who knows now and days.

If you buy shoes here (which I dont recommend based on their poor selection), do NOT let the employee ringing you up convince you to sign up for their VIP program---even if it would save you money on the purchase youre making that day. As I found out to my chagrin, they keep your credit card on file and charge you $27 every year, through some kind of hidden, deceptive auto-renewal program, which you have no idea youre signing up for at the time. If you call and complain immediately, they will refund you---but they are obviously counting on people not reviewing their credit card statements carefully. Also, I agree with the other people who have complained about receiving extreme levels of spam via mail and email.

I bought a pair of shoes here two years ago, and now two years later I see a charge of $24.99 for "Road Runner Sports VIP Club renewal." At no point did anyone in this store mention any annual fee when I checked out. I dont even remember any discussion of it at the register other than if I gave them my address they would give me a free pair of socks or something like that. Ive never returned to this store after being deluged with junk mail since I gave them my address. This VIP membership thing is a sleazy tactic. Ive put in a chargeback through my credit card and I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
