This review is for my LASIK eye surgery experience at Griffin and Reed, Sacramento. I am 51 years old and had been wearing glasses for about 25 years. I put off LASIK because I thought it would be a good idea for all the eye surgeons to practice on thousands of people and maybe improve the technology. I finally decided to look into it when my optometrist said he had it done 12 years ago and it has been great for him. I had a -4.0 and -4.5 diopter correction and large astigmatism which came to 20/1000 and 20/1200 vision in my eyes. My glasses and contacts corrected me to 20/20 in both eyes. But as everyone knows glasses and contacts are annoying, and without them it was a big blur. I first went to Dr. Neuman and they ran me through all the tests and told me that my cornea was thick enough and I was a good candidate for Lasik. They asked me if I was interested in mono-vision where one eye is used for distance and one eye is used for reading. I said that I had tried that with contacts and didn’t want it. They said okay. I asked them what their 20/20 success rate is and they said it is about 90%. They also said that a 20/30 result would be acceptable. I thought they were a good office, but I was in search of a perfectionist. There are not many things more important than your eyesight, and getting a discount was not a priority. I read some reviews on-line about Dr. Reed and an article he wrote a few years ago about what a person should look for, the newest machines they use, etc. They have about a 97% 20/20 vision success rate. I made an appointment with Dr. Reed because of all the good things that people wrote about him. After I met him, I figured that there probably is nobody better and nobody more knowledgeable than him in northern California to have LASIK done. Their office steered me toward mono-vision since glasses are not needed at all afterward. I am so glad that I had mono-vision done because reading things up close happens all the time and you will never have your reading glasses with you at all times! I had the surgery done about three weeks after I went to Griffin and Reed. I was nervous at first but with the sedative pill and Dr. Reed by my side I actually had fun! It does not hurt and that laser sounds so cool it is like being in a futuristic movie. I now have 20/13 in my right eye and 20/30 for my reading eye. I can even see about half of the letters on the 20/10 line and I can read everything up close. All I can say is that this has been a great experience - I went from 20/1000 to 20/13!!! Dr. Reed is not just in it for the money and he truly made me feel like he cared about me and wanted the perfect result. Dr. Reed is a highly competent eye surgeon, a great guy, and a friend. Kris B.

Dr. Reed was a "no brainer" choice for me to make after all my research was completed. (surgery date: 2/17/12) I did A LOT of research on the internet and visited 5 different providers of Lasik Surgery. I shouldve saved myself time, gas ($$$) and effort and chose Dr. Reed (third office I visited) before I went to the last two offices. Dr. Reeds office is ran professionally, well equipped, modern, and there is no used car salesmanship (3 of the 4 others I visited definitely had the used car dealership feel). Most importantly, Dr. Reed knows what he is doing and takes the time to treat you as an individual so that he can make sure to give you the best results for you and your lifestyle. Dr. Reed is the only one of the 5 that spoke with me about Mono Vision being the direction I should take for my surgery. Dr. Reed suggested this approach to keep me from needing reading glasses for as long as possible. I brought this up to the next two offices and called a previous office I had been too, and they all told me to just go for the 20/20 and accept that Ill need reading glasses in the future. I found this to be confusing since Dr. Reed was so confident in this being my best choice. Now I had more research to do. After researching Mono Vision thoroughly, it became apparent to me that Dr. Reeds approach was the best way to go and perhaps the others didnt want to do this for another reason. With the type of Mono Vision Dr. Reed wanted to perform for me (under correcting my weak eye and giving my dominate eye 20/20) they couldnt "plug and play", which is basically entering your information into the laser and letting the laser do the work for them, instead of them having to personalize the surgery to your individual needs. Dr. Reed was also the only Dr. that told me I did not need Custom Lasik (though I did decide to have Custom Lasik with my dominate eye). I could go on and on about the pre-op experience, education and directions given by Dr. Reed and his office (far superior to all others), the day of surgery atmosphere (didnt feel like cattle, unlike the other offices I visited), the post op follow through (thorough, professional and caring), but I need to end this soon, so Ill "focus" on the results. I went with mono vision and I was surprised to be reading from the 20/20 lines at near and far distances the next morning! Im fluctuating between 20/25 and 20/20 vision and I couldnt be happier with the results. Thank you Dr. Reed! Thanks go out to your staff as well, they do a fantastic job.

I cannot say enough positive things about my experience at Griffin & Reed. I recently had Dr. Reed perform LASIK surgery on my eyes and I am thrilled with the results. My vision went from 20/1000 to 20/20 in a single day. Nearly 25 years of wearing glasses and contacts are over. I conducted quite a bit of research about the LASIK process and doctors alike. I wanted whichever doctor I chose to not only give me results but to take the time to personalize everything for me. Dr. Reed did all of this from the first time I met him. The thing I appreciated the most from is the personal touch that I received from the entire staff but especially from Dr. Reed. During my consultation, Dr. Reed spent over an hour with my wife and I answering questions and concerns that I had. I don’t know of any other facility where the actual surgeon will sit and answer your questions, much less for an hour, when you may just pick up and go somewhere else. Dr. Reed was extremely easy to talk to and clear and concise in his explanations. He broke the entire process down and was upfront with me as to whether or not he even considered me a quality candidate. In the end, I decided to go with Griffin & Reed based on my comfort level with Dr. Reed and his perceived confidence level that I would have a good shot at getting the results I wanted. In the end, there are no guarantees and the doctor’s confidence level is all you can base your decision on. On surgery day, I was thankful I had chosen Dr. Reed. He explained everything that was going to happen in detail and prepared me for the sights and sounds of the surgery. As he was performing the surgery he again explained everything as it was happening and before I knew it, it was over. I was provided the same personal touch to the follow-up appointments. Thank you to Dr. Reed and his entire staff for their professionalism and making me feel like I was their only patient.
