Ive been giving Adventure Sports my business for years and Ive never been disappointed. A couple of times they were the only dealer in the region (or was it NorCal?) stocking the boat I was interested in. Several times Ive had to return an item because of a problem, and each time the problem was resolved quickly to my satisfaction. While paddling local waters I occasionally run into others whove done business with Adventure, and I dont recall any complaints. In my experience, Adventures kayak prices are tough to beat, given theyre a high-volume dealer. When it comes to the price of their gear Id say theyre usually competitive. If I need kayak fishing supplies I definitely check online or local fishing store prices first. As for the quality of their customer service, I think its varied over the years and has gotten much better in the last few. Theres a core group of knowledgeable workers whove been in the shop for years and when I connect with any of them Im satisfied. If I were buying a boat Id probably want to work with the owner, Carl, or at least one of the more experienced members of his staff. If I were unsatisfied with anything someone else at Adventure told me Id ask to speak with Carl, whos always made himself accessible to me. My advice to anyone new to kayaking: Do as much homework as possible before buying. That means online research, shopping at least a few stores and, if possible, seeking advice from experienced paddlers.

Prior to going to "Adventure Sports" I checked out the Yelp reviews and was very hesitant. My wife had spoken to some friends who had purchased their kayaks there and had nothing but good things to say. She wanted to go so off we went. We drove from our home in Walnut Creek (1.75 hours) and arrived a little after the store opened. We browsed the store without being approached. I personally like this as too many places put the sales pressure right on. The young adult who we spoke to was definitely not a sales person but understood what we were looking for. After answering a few questions he realized that we needed greater assistance. He introduced us to "Carl" one of the owners. What a "great refreshing difference from all the other places we had been looking. Carl presented unbiased thoughts on what we should be considering even on kayaks he did not sell. After spending a good 1 ½ hours we placed deposits on a Necky “Elisa” and Eddyline “Journey”. I am going to return to paddle the “Journey” before a final decision is made. I am giving the 5 star rating because of the way we were treated, the time spent with us, and information disseminated. After paddling the Journey I plan on updating my review just to be sure that my first impression was correct.

I would never, ever buy a kayak here again! Yes, they have a wide variety of kayaks, but so do many other places in the area! When I went in to this store I knew exactly what I wanted to buy. They had one salesman on the floor, who was helping another couple (he seemed very helpful). The manager and another staff member were in a glass walled office in the back and could see me waiting for over 15 minutes but did not/would not come help me. It wasnt until another couple came in did the manager come out to help me. He was short with me and rude, didnt want to answer questions and made derogatory comments about the kayak I was buying (top rated) but didnt want to offer alternatives. When I was checking out he stopped ringing up my $1,000 purchase to help a guy that came to the counter to pick out a $20 purchase!! I honestly would have walked out then except the manager had my credit card and was half way through the process. I told him to forget it and he pointed to a sign that said "no returns". As I was leaving I heard him talking to another couple making a comment about my purchase!!! The only positive was the new guy who loaded my kayak (wish I had gotten his name). I would never, ever, ever buy another thing from this company !!! Ever.

I live locally and was excited to have a full service kayak shop near my house. I have visited the store a hand full of times and everytime it has been the same experience. I have to track someone down for help, they have very limited experience on what a kayaker really needs.Store was filled with young guys with no customer experience experience at all. Watch out because they will sale you parts and stuff you dont really need. Watch there pricing, I have found that if you shop almost any internet site you can buy your gear including the shipping cheaper than going to the store. Infact one of the owners told me there prices where higher because thats there shipping on the item to get it to the store...what! Really!! Shop around search the web youll be better off. and your wallet will be happier. The internet is filled with tons of info on kayaking and kayak fishing do your homework before heading to this store. Know your pricing and what you will need. When I visited the store the first time I dropped over $3000 dollars on kayaks, racks and tons of extras. I later found out that I could have saved hundreds of dollars by shopping online. I hate not supporting the local guy but they dont give me a good reason why to support them. Sorry guys.

A lot of folks are fine with the "Wal Mart" treatment and Im usually indifferent to that approach any way. Mainly because, when Im shopping at Wal Mart I know what I need and where to get it. Now when a person walk into a specialty store they usually expect a greeting in the least, a "Can I help you find something today?" probably wouldnt hurt. In my three trips to this store I was never treated well. Could it be because I was obviously not looking to purchase a $1000 + Kayak? Regardless, a $200 dollar PDF isnt exactly a "Low ticket item". The second and third times I was looking for much cheaper kayak parts but could have really used some advise. Just for fun, I asked an obviously too busy to provide any customer service sales person (that was sarcasm) "My kayak doesnt have a drain hole, do you (sales person) know of anything I can use to put one in?" I got "No you cant put a drain plug in if there isnt one already." (He then walked off without another word). Give this place a try (I rarely let a bad rating keep away from somewhere) but if you do try it, Dont Expect Much.

I wish there were six stars for Adventure Sports! I found them through eBay of all places and Brandon was awesome in communicating about an Aspire 100 kayak I ordered. They were one of the only places I could quickly get the exact model, year and color I wanted-- and had a very competitive price. From the order to being back on the water only took about a week, which was amazing. Even local stores would have taken most of the summer to get this exact kayak for me. Their shipping service (it was being sent from their place in California to me in Maryland) was also a great deal and worked very fast and well. Everything was well-packaged and arrived in perfect condition. I couldnt be happier with the entire process and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a kayak or accessories. They are knowledgeable, great on the business end, and without question, well be coming back for more!!
