I love this bookstore and have found some terrific books there. My only quibble is the staff, especially when one is selling books there. I understand how things work now, that they have to buy cheap because most books will go for quite cheap outside, but I have had multiple experiences with them being openly rude about buying books. Its too bad. But I still love the outside carts and can spend hours inside, and I think everyone who lives in Los Angeles or visits should stop by this institution. Just dont expect a hug from the employees.

I love this bookstore! The atmosphere is great (I love the tree in the middle). Its not a very big store, but they have a good selection, and books that arent easily found at bigger chain stores. The childrens section is GREAT, and I find unique books for my toddler-aged niece every time I go there. I also appreciate that their cultural studies/womens studies/LGBTQ section is bigger than you find at other stores. The staff are helpful when you need them, but give you space and time to browse as much as you want.

Im a big fan of books with lots of art and photography in them, but they are usually really expensive. But when i went to La Southwest College Bookstore, they have a huge selection of discounted books outside, and I found some art and photography books for really cheap. They have lots of books inside the store too, but I am a big fan of the outdoor used books section. You have to spend some time looking for the right thing, though because they only organized by subject, not alphabetically or anything.

Very affordable used books. The people at the register are very friendly and love to keep up a conversation. The prices are really amazing and their collection is always changing. You can find some really interesting books here that you cant find in chains like Barnes and Noble, etc. Ill be coming back over and over for years to come.
