The prices are good, but as soon as you walk in, you know where you stand pretty quickly. ALL BAGS MUST BE CHECKED IN, reads the sign, and the guards make sure if you bring carts or backpacks, they are left at the liquor section (assuming I guess you will want to get your "40" of malt liquor before you leave). I buy bus passes, but have had to go to the 10th street location because this store refuses to honor MTA discount coupons. You must pay cash up front; they wont accept EBT for payment of bus passes. The money orders are cheap, but check the hours; if you come past the hours posted, oh well. The fruits and vegetables are cheaper, but only if they are on sale. Quality is usually B or C quality (in comparison, Ralphs, Albertsons and Vons are A quality). Its surprising how a lot of the produce is close to rotting. The meat prices are good, if they are on sale. I have had problems with their frozen foods...it is not rare to find your ice cream looking like it melted and was refrozen. They have a wide variety of ethnic foods, servicing Mexican, Salvadoran, Filipino, Cambodian and Vietnamese as well as Pacific Islander customers. You will not find a wide variety of deli foods, but abundant processed meats. They have aisles of various top ramens and dry soups, but dont expect to find gefilte fish here. I have never, never had a checker make a mistake in pricing their produce, which I find astonishing...every other market blows that, but these checkers know their produce! They have a separate section that makes cakes, pastries and hot foods for you, but it must be rung up separately...it seems to be a separate company within the store, which is odd. Most of the checkers will speak Spanish, but havent met any that seem to speak other languages.

Food 4 Less is a Great market to shop - prices selection customer service = five stars!!!!! Shopping plaza also offers McDonalds Yum Yum Donuts Payless Shoes a water store and a place you can get Mexican food theres also Beauty Salon. Theres also three other corners of the intersection to shop at and that includes El Pollo Loco an EBT destination accepting the hot meal SNAP program which means you can use your food stamp benefits to get fresh hot chicken. Theres also Mexican restaurant there is an insurance place at doctors office 711 and several other stores including MetroPCS. Across the street is Hawaiian barbecue place US Bank a dentist office Yoshinoya Beef Bowl OReilly Auto a 24-hour gym and a bakery. Between the four corners of Atlantic and Slauson you have a huge selection of stores that offer value pricing great customer service and easy access. Oh I almost forgot theres a Subway which also accepts the EBT hot meal program which means you can use your SNAP food stamp benefits to get sandwiches. Check it out when you get a chance you wont be disappointed. And a block away from this location north on Atlantic is the new Maywood Starbucks location brand new just opened great coffee great service hi very high prices at Starbucks but if you like paying $1,000 a cup a cup of coffee cruise on by their walking and drive thru available and 2 clean restrooms for your convenience

Top Valu is a mixed bag. On the one hand, they have very good prices on fresh produce, plus a great selection of Mexican/central American ethnic foods.; As a bonus, they also carry fresh tamales and horchata in the bakery section (but there doesnt seem to be a set schedule of when these items are available--catch as catch can). On the other hand, outside of fresh produce, their selection of food is limited and appears to be low quality, the checkout clerks are insanely slow and/or incompetent, and youre liable to be randomly accosted by a security guard. Overall, it has a very "ghetto" feel. TLDR: go for the fruits/veggies/Mexican ingredients, but dont expect this store to fulfill your needs for a well-rounded diet that doesnt include a crapton of canned/packaged foods and cheap cuts of meat.

Sounds like the Store Manager did not care whether they lose a customer and assumed it was OUR fault their produce was not fresh! Exact words, "they were good when you bought them" and "How do I know you did not have them in your car for hours?" Wow!! And when I mentioned Fresh And Easy (literally blocks away) has prices either the same or a tad more, she went on and said "their produce is fresher and they do not use hormones!" I guess she was saying in a way "Dont shop here!" She is right, for sure I wont come back!

one star for the prices on their produce, but I will never go back, regardless of the prices. every gallon of milk was only good for another 6-7 days for some reason?? their selections were extremely limited. creepy parking lot, crappy grocery carts, and as literally the only white guy in the store, the spanish cashiers looked and treated me like a zoo animal, and I felt they wanted to get me out the store as quickly as they could. not recommended, Ill pay double at a Ralphs before going back here.

First off, they make some pretty good ceviche except they only have shrimp ceviche and because I eat it so often Im partial to the classic whitish recipe. The site is a little run down but thats understandable due to its central location. The Store is located just west of Long Beach Blvd making it convenient for both sides of town to patronize. Plus the blue line train from L.A. stops right in front of the store. They have a plentiful butcher shop but the check out lines are always to Long.

Pretty good selection, a little on the expensive side, but this is the only grocery store I bother going to. I like the cashiers for the most part, they are very friendly. Some days at times the lines can get veeeerrry long and you wish they could just open one more register! Their bakery section is fantastic and Ive noticed theyre adding more and more. Good veggie section as well.

Its conveniently located with decent amount of parking. Produce was fresh and they have a good variety of different things. Staff however is not very knowledgeable about where to find things. One other thing is that the meat deli department was not very clean, meat looked like it was sitting there a long time and there were flies all over it.

This place is the best, the staff is always professional and polite. I always see them cleaning up, switching out the fruit to keep the store in tip top shape. The produce department is always well maintained with fresh produce, they even have an organic section! Ive been coming here for a while and Iam beyond satisfied with Top Valu!

Great neighborhood market. Awesome marinated chicken. The staff are friendly and helpful. The selection is spotty, but weve never had trouble getting what we need. The prices are great. One of the only places in town selling fresh Dill.
