Today was a bad customer service experience at the Glendale - Super King Market... an incident with the most unprofessional staff member Ive encountered at their Deli section. So bad, had to report it to the store mgr. over bagging my deli items, of all things! Basically the Deli staff member (who later says hes a mgr) refused to bag my deli items in separate plastic bags, when questioned, he said deli section policy - 3 orders to a bag. I didnt like that but I said ok, however, Im buying for another person so need their order bagged separately. He refused to bag separate and said get another number and place the order. I couldnt believe he suggested I go back out, get in line again so I can place a separate order to get them bagged separately!! I refused to do that and insisted he separate my order, still refused to accommodate my request, arguing loudly reiterating his 3/1 bagging policy and humiliated me in front of the other customers by saying go get your own bags, thats our policy. Never have I experienced such poor and unprofessional customer service from a service staff member. He should not be in any service role much less management role, he needs to be fired for damaging the service image of Super King Market. Humiliating, arguing, bullying a customer over a worthless plastic bag. I gave feedback to the store mgr on shift, he said he would handle the issue with the employee. Never got an apology from him. What a poor excuse for a manager and a nonsense bagging policy that in my opinion represents bad and unsanitary practices. l cant believe this guy is actually a manager level, he is a disgrace to the management profession and a great example of terrible customer service. I should say that the rest of the Market staff, cashiers etc are nice and professional.... that particular guy/manager should be fired!

The defunct Ralphs is now home the one who reigns supreme - Super King Market. This market is sheer chaos and I love it. The chaos begins in the parking lot where at times the line to get into the parking lot begins at the San Fernando off ramp off the 2 freeway. So, as a regular I offer the following guide: 1. Secure a parking spot (go to the far end spots facing the train tracks - but, if you see an open spot - GET IT! 2. Secure a shopping cart (get one that people leave behind in the lot) 3. If you see any produce that you like outside - GET IT; if its a good deal, GET MORE 4. Go to the deli and get your ticket (by the time you finish getting your produce, youre number will be up next) 5. Get your produce 6. Get your butcher ticket (if you are buying meat get the ticket first); browse the pre-packaged meats; keep an ear open for you number; order your butcher meats 7. Get your other groceries 8. Visit the bakery 9. Visit their very extensive and well priced liquor section. They have a great selection of spirits and they are well priced. Once I got stocked up on Belvedere because they were only $19! Other tips: - This store is navigated in a counter-clockwise fashion - You can leave your cart unattended -just leave something in it - Nutella, Orangina and fillet mignon are really cheap here Oh, and please, please, please dont stop or leave your cart in the middle of the isle. Move over to the side. And, be careful with your heels - you will be bumped and theres not point in getting agitated.

My favorite market for odd/specialty and well priced items. Here is my breakdown: Pros: 1. Awesome deli counter, great selection and prices. They get really busy so get your number first thing you enter. 2. Great produce, most of which is really freah. They organics keep expanding. 3. Awesome middle-eastern and european goods and everything is priced very well. 4. Great deals on liquor and imports. 5. Legumes and bread selections, giant buckets of yogurt, odd canned goods, etc. Cons: 1. Parking - simply nasty in the evenings, weekends and holidays. Easily beats TJs. Come early morning or late night. Parking lot is a dumpster. 2. Crowd - this place is really busy throughout the day and can get quite messy. Carts bumping and blocking aisles, people elbowing you to get in front and screaming on their phones. Its charming at first but gets annoying fast. 3. They cant/dont want to compete on big brand names so double check the price of oreos before you buy. 4. Meat area smells horrible and I prefer to avoid it. Its pretty cheap though. Tweak your visit based on the above and shopping at SK could be lots of fun and light on your wallet. Youll always find new and exciting things every time you visit.

This place has really great deals especially on produce. And when they have a sale on meat and seafood, especially salmon, the prices cant be beat. Also a great selection of ethnic produce. A lot of ethnic items with a middle eastern focus, but there are many Asian and Latin American items as well. Extensive deli too with good prices. Selection on some basics such as cereal, juice, dressing (cpgs), along with organic food, not quite as good compared to a place such as vons. They also regularly run specials on Super Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so its worth checking out their circular. Can get really busy and parking can be a mess. All in all, a great place with great prices, especially for this part of town. Good selection of hard liquor also, but beer selection is kind of meh.

REALLY GOOD DEALS! This market has amazing prices on produce and deli. If you havent tried to shop here, you have to give them a try. Everytime I go to Super King, I fill up my cart to the top with everything my family needs and i end up paying a fraction (about $100-$150) of what I would spend at Ralphs and Albertsons. The only reason why Im not giving them 5 starts is because Im not a big fan of their cold cuts (not the prepackaged ones). It seems like they dont last as long as the prepackaged cold cuts. Otherwise, I think this business will be around longer then all the other mom-an-pop markets - maybe even make the big firms close down selected locations.
