Im a local and I want to love this place, but will NEVER go back again. There are two people who appear to be owners/managers: a blonde surfer guy and a very tall Brazilian woman.
Short version: The tall Brazilian woman- can be impatient, bored, and sometimes rude... just terrible customer service for a small, local business person IMO. On several occasions she has been borderline rude and truly unhelpful (and pushy). She seems impatient at times and really does not seem to care about returning customers. One one occasion she was actually kinda nice, so its obviously not an everyday thing.
Details: I recently bought 3 wet suits, 3 body boards, flippers, and booties from one of the two owner/managers (I forget who sold me the stuff). When I bought my wetsuit, the Brazilian woman upsold me to the $200 suit and convinced me that it was the right choice. I was concerned that LARGE was too big for me since I always wear MEDIUM in everything. I believe the blonde guy was quite insistent that "this one is the right fit for you" (even with my objections). So, I figured that they knew what they were talking about and bought it (along with two suits for my kids, and rest of stuff). Grand total somewhere around $600, plus more stuff later.
So, when I go for my first surf in the ocean I discover that I get a large rush of cold water down my back every time I go under. Wow. The good news is that it only lasts a minute and then I sorta get used to it. But, everytime I wipe or dunk, I get a gallon of cold water down my back.
After 6-7 times trying different things that did not work, I went back to the shop. I caught the blonde surfer guy one day and he said "Cmon back with the suit on and I will take a look and see what I can do." He seemed great and I was impressed.
So, a week later (aug 2007), I go back to the shop and met the Brazilian woman talking on the phone. After about 5 minutes of listening to her gossip--really, she did--she stopped talking and was ready to `help me. I told her everything and was nice and friendly about it. But, she interrupted me with a loud speech "Sir, we NEVER sell wetsuits that do not fit. We take special care to make sure that suits are tight enough so that you never have a problem." Well, I told her that obviously it happened and I was hoping we could figure something out. She repeated the speech very loudly so that everyone in the store could here. I was flabbergasted and tried to explain that one of the owners INSISTED that large was the correct size for me. She said that this was "impossible since
