Ranks as either the number one or number two running store Ive ever visited (and trust me, Ive been to a LOT of running stores). The only reason it doesnt get a definitive #1 is because Ive never actually bought shoes there--but thats also the reason its high in my rankings. (More on this later). The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful (comparable to Super JocknJill, my "gold standard")--but the store is less busy, so you get more attention (I got help from not one, but TWO salespeople--one being the manager)...which pretty much bumps them above SJJ. But anyhow...my experience: Its difficult for me to get fit for shoes because I have strange feet and I run a lot, but I stopped in at Sound Sports for a new opinion and to see fresh stock. The staff person who helped me was very knowledgeable, but when he was confounded by my feet, he got his manager, who was even more knowledgeable (impressive!) and confirmed my theories about my feet. Most important, they were honest: they also told me that they didnt carry what I likely needed, and didnt try to sell me the wrong shoe just for the sake of selling me a shoe--instead, we discussed other running stores nearby that might carry what I wanted. I was very happy with the service--so happy that I was actually disappointed that I couldnt buy shoes from their store. So, just because I liked them so much, I bought some socks instead. Wish I could have bought shoes, but what can you do? Also, they have a very good (and reasonably priced!) clothing selection as running stores go. Usually have some pretty good deals on the sale rack, too.

Im quite new to running but as I started doing it more regularly I quickly realized my $10 sneakers were going to kill my knees pretty quickly. Having done some research, my husband and I went to Sound Sports, the shoes were to be my birthday present. The sales associate let me know that I can ask him for help should I need it and I took him up on that immediately. I was expecting the shoe selection process to take a long time and felt bad for my husband, pretty boring for him (luckily the store also carries nice frisbees which are much more interesting to him!). But my expectations were not upheld, I was at the store for less than a half an hour thanks to the very helpful, very nice and very knowledgeable salesperson. He asked me some questions, looked at my feet and the way they move and brought out a few pairs of shoes. One of them fit like a dream and felt incredibly comfortable. Then the amazing--he said I should test them out and run up and down the block! Never before could I test shoes like that. I left the store happy with a great pair of shoes that has been serving me very well. The cashier took down my name so they could keep my shoe selection on file should I need this information in the future. Pretty awesome! In conclusion, this place is great: friendly and very knowledgeable staff, good selection of shoes and other sports equipment, and looks like they truly care that a customer leaves happy. I certainly did!

Hello readers, heres my review of sound sports, I hope you find it helpful. Im vacationing out of town..thought Id swing by the running store next to my hotel to pick up a comfy pair of shoes to voyage around town in. I was stoked to see that they carry Hokas, which are my brand of choice. Like most, Im the type of consumer who likes a little room to browse, but I appreciate acknowledgement & friendly pr from staff members. A few minutes after walking in, I was told from across the empty store by 1 of the 2 employees to ask if I had any questions, I said thanks as Im still browsing. Several minutes later, with a selection in hand, I turned to look for an employee to ask for a size. Another customer had walked in and was immediately approached by a staff member, was given a helpful description of their products, and received assistance trying a pair on. My wife also set her selection down as we moved on to the next store. Selective red carpet treatment is never a sound business move. I wouldnt recommend this business to anyone, id go as far as I saying online merchants provide superior service..

The people working in the store are extra-knowledgable about shoe fitting, and give good free advice on running. I was allowed to take a quick outdoor test run with a new set of shoes, which isnt the policy of every store--even those catering to runners. So while its possible you might buy a shoe that has a tiny scuff from some other customers test run on it, if you are a real runner, how the shoe fits and performs is what matters. I also got a kind of "poor mans gait analysis" from the gentleman there. Its not the same thing as going to a PT, but as I was very new to running at the time, it was valuable. This is not some mall shop staffed by teenagers that dont know anything. This is a proper store for runners, and worth supporting.

Amazing, seriously! This guys knew my feet like a satellite GPS just by watching me run and doing a few seemingly simple tests. He explained why my current shoes were killing my feet and knees. He knew exactly what shoe to put me in and that my orthotics, that I ALWAYS wear were not helping me in a running shoe! I walked out of there with shoes that feel like clouds on my feet AND a renewed excitement to RUN!!!! This place ROCKS!!! Oh and for those that think they can go to a well run store and suck the years of knowledge out of a great store, then go order your shoes off the internet...you are steeling and that is just bad! Supporting locally owned and well run businesses is good for all of us!

Ben, one of the owners, was amazing the Sunday that I was there. Got me in a pair of shoes that I LOVE and helped me stabilize my LONGTIME foot problem with a piece of folded paper!! Ive been running 30 years and basically gave up on running shoe shops, but this one was different. He really knows what hes doing. I wish that I lived in this city. A great running shoe shop, very complete and with expertly chosen shoes and a really knowledgeable and friendly owner. I HIGHLY recommend this shop if you are in town visiting or if you live here. I took a chance based on other Google reviewers and Ben and his shop are tops.

I saw a roller stick for deep massage online but it was only available for purchase in certain stores. This was the closest store to me (Im in Portland, OR) and I was ready to drive up and buy the product. My friend suggested I call and see if theyd take my payment over the phone and ship it to me. To my surprise, the super nice guy on the phone did just that. I ordered this at 5:30pm on Thursday and received it today, Monday, at 1:00pm. Seriously awesome service. If you live in the area, and even if you dont, check this place out. Im totally wowed and excited about my purchase. :)

Cindy took great care of me. I came in with a tight budget and little running experience- I told her I was just training for a little 5K but still wanted to make sure to protect my joints and enjoy the process. She took the time to examine my stance and running tendencies. She was sensitive to my price point and gave me lots of options - even watched me run in each suggested pair to make sure there were no problems. I feel really happy with the service and my purchase- thanks for the help!
