Not Happy. We were having a bit of an issue with our Subaru Legacy and took it to Honest Engine to have it checked out. We were experiencing a slight hesitation around 30 - 35 mph in third gear. After their inspection and diagnosis they suggested that it was time to change the spark plugs and coil packs. And they quoted $800 to $1,000 to change the plugs. Since there was not an indication of a firing issue through the on-board computer, I was a little suspicious, so i took the Subie to another shop. the second shop came back with a totally different diagnosis. It turns out we were experiencing an issue with the torque converter when shifting from 3rd to 4th that was causing the shutter. Bottom line is that even though they claim to work on a variety of makes, they really dont seem to have a clue. So do yourself a favor and just start out at another shop. You will be much happier and wont be wasting your $100 for a faulty diagnosis. Really glad I went somewhere else to varify their findings.

I have been taking my cars here for over 10 years now. They do really great work, and are affordable. When I ask questions they explain everything in detail to me, not judging me by my gender and dumbing things down as I have dealt with so often in the automotive industry. They are schedule accomodating, BUT its important to make appointments here because they are always super busy due to their quality of service. Typically not a place to go if you are passing thru town and want your car in and out immediately, though it never hurts to call and ask how busy they are that week. I always take my cars here and will continue to for years to come.

Ive taken my Audi to them a few times to have minor things fixed (tune up, oil changes, and sensors replaced). In short, on a few occasions they charged me for several parts they DIDNT replace and replaced parts that DIDNT need to be fixed in the first place. When confronting them, the owner shrugged his shoulders and smiled. I would not recommend them at all! Several friends and coworkers have warned me about their "shady" business and nickname... DIShonest Engine. I should have listened, because I would have saved money, time and energy going someplace else. Now, I go to Arcata German Auto. Ive had nothing but great service from them.

Been there multiple times for my classic bug, always a pleasure to talk with, none of the mechanics or front counter guys ever speak AT you, they always speak WITH you. They will always run potential repairs by you, before continuing on with a charge you hadnt originally authorized. I only had to return for a warranty on a part, because parts for classic bugs are not made with high quality anymore; there was no squabble about any of the work or parts, I was able to come back right away and had the issue resolved. Definitely my favorite place to go!

I agree with reviewers who say that the charge is always lower than the quoted price. Steve and Reed are great service writers, the team of mechanics is top notch, and even though I have to walk 1/2 hour to work after dropping off my vehicle, I wont take it anywhere else.
