This is NOT the Emeryville store and it is NOT closed. This store is in El Cerrito. The store is there, I just got home five minutes ago from that location. And it was ridiculous. I couldnt find any fabric which was appropriate for the project I am working on. Now, that is a little annoying but...well sometimes you just dont find what you are looking for. That is not the problem. The CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AWFUL. Not only awful, but rude. I wandered around for almost 30 minutes not finding anything and no one ever approached me. Finally, I asked the lady at the fabric counter a question and she lazily threw her arm in the general direction she thought would help me, which wasnt even close to what I was asking for. No surprise, I could tell she wasnt listening, she didnt even look up from some fringe she was winding. (PS It was not busy, there was NO ONE else in line) Under protest, I chose to purchase my other items anyways because I really needed them. At the check out counter the price for the two items was higher than I had expected. The clerk said the price was 13.99 per item. I told her, "oh, well the price tag in the back said 11.99?" She said the items were not on sale. I told, "oh yeah, it wasnt a sale tag and the tag displayed the same measurements as the items I purchased." Now, I wasnt rude, just very matter-of-fact. I expected they would check it for me. But she just stared at me. Long story short, I had to haul my two young children to the back of the store, again, to price check for myself. PS. There were two clerks and NO ONE ELSE in line. So they stood up front and let me do their job for them. While I was returning to the check out, I observed another employee stare up from over the top of her glasses to a customer who had been waiting. She dryly and doubtfully asked,,"Can I help you..." without smile and with tons of attitude. At this point I decided I would never step foot in the store again. As a general rule, I dont return to places where I feel Ive been insulted. The only bright spot: when my daughter had to use the restroom, there was a very kind gentleman working there who gave me directions to the facilities with a smile. If the rest of the employees shared his attitude, I would not be writing this right now.

On July 14, 2011, I did a return NO receipt. The original purchase consisted of 4-5 purchases and I couldnt find the receipt. I knew at the time, that I was going to purchase some Cricut products, so I didnt think it was that big of a deal. The refund consisted of 32 items and the refund amount equaled $234.26. I was told by the manager that due to the amount of the refund, that they couldnt give me cash or a store credit in house and that it would have to come from corporate. In addition, the return receipt states, "your patronage is appreciated. however, due to the nature of this transaction, we are unable to issue payment from this store. we will issue a refund check in the appropriate amount within 2 weeks". It is now the end of August and I still do not have my refund. I have called corporate SEVEN times. Emailed twice and no response. Let me tell you one thing right now "JoAnns corporate" you have never met a customer quite like me. I WILL get my refund. I hope you enjoy my complaint with the BBB and hope you enjoy my small claims suit.

They have a LOT of stuff, you just have to find it yourself. If I feel like browsing, its fun to go there, because they leave you alone! If I really need help I go to Stone Mountain because the sales staff really knows their stuff and are quite friendly. I feel kind of bad for the staff At Joanns because it seems like the management doesnt get the concept of customer service and probably doesnt care much about their employees; hence, they dont seem to like their jobs or care much about their customers. I feel bad for them because it feels like its a sad place to work, and that kind of depresses me about shopping there. But Im actually going there right now because its close by and I want to look at their stuff!!

I have been going to Joanne in El Cerrito Plaza since it opened. I just finished reading some of the reviews and realized they are right about customer service! I guess I never payed attention I go in get what I need and leave... Im resourceful when it comes to finding what I want and need. I also realized Joanne and other places like Joanne are all the same no customer service! Thats the reason I go in and out I memorize where everything is so I know what area to go for what I need. Personally I thought thats how they all worked no customer service you should already know what you want and where to look for it!? Correct me if Im wrong thats how its always been for me...

This Jo-anns is the only branch youll see in Berkeley/Oakland area. It is in a good location next to other stores, supermarkets and fast food. They have the aisles nicely organized and the staff is knowledgeable when it comes to craft projects. I like coming here because the staff always try to get you to use as many coupons as your heart desires. They also offer a variety of classes here. The only downside is that this is the only Jo-anns location near me and that is convenient to go to and they might not have enough staff to help you out. Tip: Try to go during after work hours or during the weekends, they seem to have more staff available.

Customer service used to be really bad at the Emeryville store, and the same bad service is now provided at the El Cerrito Plaza store. The employees at the cutting station have a pretty bad attitude when you need help with measurements.I tried to renew my teachers discount card, and they refused to renew it even though I showed them a current Charters credential, based on their awkward questions about my teaching job. However I had a great shopping experience at the Corte Madera store. I dont live in Marin, and would like to buy at my local store, but after my last experience in El Cerrito, I had more than enough!

I went to buy a piece of fabric. The lady at the cutting section looked at me an then continued to do some paperwork or something like that. After a few people showed up she looked at all of us and then started to take us in order (the machine that was giving tickets was not working). I said "in order" - so she knew exactly who came and when. She spoke in such a manner that gave me a headache the whole day. I will avoid this store at all costs. And about the sale signs - forget about them. Some of the items are on sale. I do not know how do I manage to find only stuff that is not on sale between all of them.

Really, they are the only game in town and they know it so theyve simply stopped trying. The store is nicely stocked but getting help is tough especially with a sewing question. Its like theyre not allowed to give advice for liability reasons or something. Anyway, as an avid creative artist, crafter and seamstress I visit often. I just wish I could find a worthy competitor so I could make more informed shopping decision.
