If I could give this place zero stars I would. I went in looking for the gluten-free bow tie pasta I had bought at a different Safeway. Now mind you its difficult enough finding a gluten-free pasta that has a good texture and consistency since some of them are just gross. Well when I didnt find them, I asked this really sweet African-American guy if he could look in the back. He looked in the back and there were none, so I asked if he could check in the system to see if the other Safeway off of A or B street had it, and he said no but he could call. So he asked this white man with a faux hawk to call the other store. First of all, the guy already looked irritated, and after waiting a while for the people on the phone to look for it, the other store ended up not having it. The entire time, he looked frustrated that he had to call, and when the didnt have the item I wanted he says "well that was a waste, they didnt have it anyway," then rolls his eyes and walks away. I work in retail and that is not how you treat a customer. It was a simple request, which by the way I get at my own job more than 10 times a day, and even if he was irritated THERE IS NO REASON TO ACT SO RUDE. I felt extremely uncomfortable and like I was bothering him. To the man who helped me, maybe you should look into another job because being nice and having good customer service is PART OF YOUR JOB. You sir, are an ass hole.

Costomer Service

If your not white dont go there. A African American lady was in front of me at customer service getting a money order, the cashier refused to take her debit/credit to make the money order stating cash only. The As costumer says who is going to carry that amount of money with them, which I can understand, she told the cashier its on my debit. I get up there to buy lotto wanted to use my card, cashier says you can not use your card I said why not she said its a state law that you have to buy all lotto with cash. I was stunned I buy the lotto evey week with my card or cash never have I had a issue. But then a white lady transferring money threw western union came behind me to transfer money was able to use her card to transfer money. Really if anything could have be fraudulent it could have been that transferring a money wire transfer. I talked to the as a in manager and she told me that who ever had been letting me use my card to buy lotto is doing it illegally. BOTTOM LINE I FEEL LIKE ME AND THE AA LADY WERE DISCRIMINATED AGAINST, SOMEONE NEEDS TO LOOK IN TO THE RACIAL PROFILING AT THIS SAFEWAY. Corporate needs to investigate the issues this Safeway for their profiling ways.

The staff in the bakery was very rude two ladies I didnt get names but very rude to myself and my kids said my card declined they tried it twice I said theirs over 100.00 on it can i try it again they said no so as soon as I left the store embarrassed I called and sure enough I had over 100.00 on my card so they were doing something wrong and made us feel embarrassed that my card wasnt going through also I bought a big bag of Jasmine rice just opened it today it smells horrible I cant find my receipt so Ive called 3xs and get no one nobody answers the phone I just want to exchange it i rarely go to this Safeway I usually go to the one on foothill the staff is amazing and I will never go to east Castro valley SafewAy again never if I could put minus stars it would be minus stars

I love this store. Sometimes you can go in the evening or very early in the day, and there is hardly anyone there shopping. Its like a ghost town....Love it! I have to order cakes there sometimes, and the bakery staff is Awesome. The cakes, and the Make your own cake menu is fantastic, and more detailed than what you can get at Costco. Twice the price obviously, but worth it. The parking lot does have a somewhat ill fated design, but once you get to know it, you will find your favorite off the beaten path parking space, in a remote corner somewhere, and you will be just fine. Getting in or out of the parking lot during busier times of the day can be kind of like an hour glass. Just have to be patient, and polite to the other patrons. Five Stars!!!

It was horrible. I needed five breakfast burritos and evidently I was Blancas first customer. She wasnt ready. She explained that I set her day back two hours. I apologized several times for inconveniencing her day and her schedule. I couldnt get all of the fixings that go with the breakfast burritos. I offered to buy spinach from the produce section but sir it will cost extra. I get that. I didnt want to take more of her precious time so I didnt want her to heat them up. I bought the spinach and explained to the store manager. She made it right by comping the spinach. I will not go back there again.

*(forgive me for the user-name, it is one of my teenage sons and I dont know how to get it off of my phone sorry)This place is terrible. Even by my standards, The female manager will literally walk into mens restroom and start questioning men about their bowel movement while they are pants down on the toilet which is beyond unacceptable behavior that i have witnessed first hand along with random employees feeling it is ok to accuse customers of shoplifting with absolutely no proof or reason to think anything like that to begin with.

This Safeway will not take back alcohol purchases even if you try to return it on the day of purchase; even though they have a printout email from their legal division stating: "a retailer may make a cash refund or exchange product for a customer if the product is purchased in error and the unopened container is returned."
