Lets start off by saying I am thoroughly disappointed. My boyfriend and I have just moved to Tempe about a month ago and we have gone to this store three times now. The first time we went to this store we were amazed with how big it is and seemed well kept. They have many selections of wines and beers from everywhere. They even have one of my favorite micro brewed beers from Durango, CO as well as my Marilyn Merlot! We were all too enthused. When it came time to check out at the register they asked for my ID as well (although y boyfriend was paying, I figured it was procedure and didnt mind). The clerk looked at my ID and wrote the date down and said over her walkie talkie "I have a 90," (my birthday is obviously in 1990) but this still didnt bother me too much at this point as I figured again procedure. An assumed "Manager" comes to the register and takes a look at my ID and chuckles and says "Starting early huh!" I was dumbfounded! All I could think to say werent even words at all but a snarky uncomfortable chuckle like "thats not really funny." We continued on our way, paid for our items and left. As we walked to the car I was irate that this man had the nerve to say that. You can say I was over reacting, I dont mind. That is for you to judge. The second time I had the pleasure of coming to this store I went with my mom. She came to visit and despite the unhappy first experience I decided I wanted to show her this great store and maybe pick up a great bottle of wine or interesting beer. This time it was fine, the clerk didnt check my ID upon check out and there was no rude comments. I was more pleased with this visit. Upon returning home we open a few of the beers we had bought (the beers were Sweaty Betty Blonde, Micro brew from Boulder, CO). The beer tasted very good. I was looking at the colorful logo on the bottle as I was gazing I noticed the expiration date was 1-26-12 and the date at the time was 2-19-12. Not too far expired but expired none the less. This killed any need or desire to return. Unfortunately for me I am not a stickler about these things and usually forgive and forget. But this last experience poured fuel on the flame. The last experience it was my boyfriend and I again and decided we should stock up and give Total Wine and Spirits one more try. The experience was fine again until check out. The clerk asked for my ID again although my boyfriend was paying, wrote it down on a piece of paper and said in her walkie talkie "I have a 90." My boyfriend and I looked at each other and said quietly "oh god, here we go." This time a female manager came up and looked at my ID then looked at me then my ID again and said "are you 21?" I then said "yes" but couldnt believe that she had the nerve to say that. I understand that you may get fake IDs and have to be careful but I felt like I was being treated like a criminal. I mean come on, if it was a fake ID and you looked at it and said "are you 21" was I really going to say, "oh sorry you caught me!" It is such a shame to have such a great store but to have such horrible treatment.

Just went in to fill my Growler with Beer. Walked to the back to the Growler station and waited for service. A female employee filling the coolers and a male employee about ten feet away cutting open wine boxes ignored me. When they were bot done they both slithered out of direct sight so as not to acknowledge my presence. I rounded the corner to speak with the male and said "excuse me", he muttered something I could not quite hear. When I asked again he responded "is there a problem?". No sir now chuckling, no problem, no problem at all. And I promptly left. Passing 4 more employees goofing off near the registers, not one of which made eye contact or spoke to me. Been goin in here since they opened, selection is good but the service has been on a death spiral for awhile now.

So I went there the other day to get or buy some used wine corks to finish a project. I had to beg them to give me some corks and they resisted even though I offered to pay for them! Never have I seen such arrogance and stupidity. So much for buy local. The store employees are so self absorbed they cannot see past their noses. Later that day I told my wife what happened and she told me to go Amazon and bingo! They have it and $15 for 100. People complain about Amazon about how they are taking business away from locals. Gee I wonder why. Im not sure Ill go back to total wine other than the fact they have some decent wines - I am a level 1 Sommelier. Even then the staff dont have clue about some of the wines people look for - past experience. Not everyone is a beer drinker. Shameful.

Ive been coming here for years and have loved the selection as well as how helpful and nice the workers are. Just recently I had to pick up a variety of wines for a tasting competition at my workplace. I was struggling not only to find a couple of varieties but to also come up with a pair to act as a tie-breaker from the competition. Steve, one of the store managers, not only helped me locate the missing bottles, but really took his time to give me thorough suggestions for the tie-breaking bottles. He even went a step further and printed out all of the notes for each of the bottles I had purchased so that we could use them as part of the event. He listened to what I had to say and provided great assistance without being pushy - an example of many of the employees that work there!

We have a wine tasting party coming up and we were thinking that empty wine boxes would make a great decoration. After walking in, I saw a group of managers near the front talking. My wife and I stopped and asked one of them what they do with their extra boxes. His reply was disgusting. He very sarcastically said "we hand them out to people that actually buy something". Now I realize that I just walked in and had nothing in my hands, but Im a late 20s stock broker, and not exactly homeless or planning on robbing the store. Thanks to this guy they not only lost our business, but that of the party guests as well.

This place has a great selection of wine and beer. This store is huge and it is very easy to get lost trying to find what you want. The only thing that I think BevMo has an advantage over is that it has a greater soda collection. Well it at least stocks Fevertree ginger ale, which is possibly one of the best ginger ales I have tried so far. The cider selection here is definitely better than the selection at the BevMo stores I have been to. Total Wine closes an hour later than BevMo which is great when you are feeling for some alcohol at night.
