The store closes at 9:30 pm during the week, I arrived at the store at approximately 8:25pm went directly to the outdoor section to purchase a firearm, looked for about 5 minutes and had decided on the firearm I wanted. When I said Ill take it I was told there wasnt a manager to sign off that she left an hour ago.....the counter guy says I didnt think you wanted to buy anything after I said are you serious, about the no manager. I then left and called the store to see if there was a manager working. Yes there are 2 or 3 is what I was told so I asked to speak to one. I explained what happened and she sounded very concerned and transferred me to another, this one didnt seem concerned at all and only said the manager that could sign off was in the back sick...really! I explained I was told manager left an hour ago and she says..well guess he was mistaken but come in tomorrow. LOL yeah ok. Very very very bad customer service besides the one manager that actually seemed to be concerned. Another customer lost. Wasted my time money and gas to be brushed off cause they didnt want to do a background check is the reason in my opinion. My driver license says I wasnt born last night. Ps I have a conceal carry permit..they would not have had to do a background check....update: called corporate and told them what happened. Got a call from the manager that was supposedly sick/already left and as I suspected she was there in good health the night this happened. To bad they missed out on a $600+ sale SMH

I always love stopping in this place, even if Im not going to buy anything. The staff are friendly and pleasant to speak to. The prices are...fair-ish for Alabama. Buy your ammo online, buy a lot and eat the cost of shipping. They have a great selection of ammo and firearms. My only complaint is they need some bigger sizes of clothing in there. Hey, fat boys like to hunt and fish and work out ya know...

Store had allot to offer, however Dothan is also considered a Military Town. Academy Sports in Dothan does not have/offer a Military discount; Dicks Sporting Goods and Gander Mountain also located in Dothan do offer a Military discount and in most cases offer it with any sales attached to an item. So if you’re Military and looking for a discount I would recommend Dicks Sporting Goods, Not Academy.

Went in today to purchase a $400+ Yeti cooler only to have an associate help me to find a scratch/dent free cooler then have the cashier too lazy to walk about the desk to scan it to flip it over and scratch the stew out of it. Uh, no thanks! Called the supervisor and was HUNG UP ON!!!!! Went to Dicks Sporting Goods and they were happy to help me pick one up and even put it in my car!

I dont know where all this "great customer service" is coming from. Every time I go to the hunting and gun accessories areas, the employees spend more time acting as if they dont see you actively trying to find something. More often than not, theyre piled up in a group behind the gun counter, trying to figure something that doesnt call for 4 to 5 people.

Dothan Academy is a great store. They always have a full selection of sporting goods and apparel. Their prices are always very competitive with other local stores and online merchants. Sometimes it can be hard to find help when you are looking for a certain item, this is why Im giving them 4 stars instead of 5.

I went in to make a return and had to wait 10 minutes for a customer service rep to come to the desk. The clerks in the store knew I was waiting and no one tried to get me assistance sooner. There were at least 4 clerks just standing around. I will avoid when possible.

Stopped in to buy another pistol. Got a 38 special. Good service and everything was quick. Except the sorry tablet I had to use to enter my info. I had to press every button 10 times for it to take. It was an android of course.
