Paid $350 to have a vehicle transferred. To me thats a pretty serious thing meaning that the odds of buying a vehicle you pay that much for to have transferred is about a 98% chance of purchase. When the vehicle came in, it had electrical work that hadnt been tended to and it wasnt "clean." It came from another CarMax so you would have thought that the other dealer would have been responsible for this. I live an hour from this particular Carmax and thought that by the time I arrived to look at the vehicle it would be ready to roll out of the store. They were aware of the electrical and the vehicle detailing. It takes hours to detail a vehicle yet they put it back in their shop, while I waited, and spent 20 minutes on it. Its still filthy and Ill probably pay $150 to have the thing cleaned out. Unbelievable. I scheduled an appt to have the electrical looked at. It took me another hour to get up to their repair. Waited an hour or so and they said it was all fixed. I didnt get 5 minutes down the road and the problem resurfaced. They said I could take a loaner while they kept the vehicle to figure it out. I dont have a problem with any of this. What I do have a problem with is that the carelessness of getting a vehicle on a lot and sold without making sure it was clean baffles me. This was a certified vehicle I might add. That means that everything has checked out and its ready to roll. That was not the case. They gave me bottom dollar for my trade, which was a very clean vehicle and sold me a vehicle that should have been in better shape coming in and going out. That reflects THEM. Is it me or how much do you have to spend in order to get kit glove treatment? I paid $30 grand for this vehicle. Is that chump change nowadays? Sure. I didnt have to buy it but I did. My issue is paying extra for a certified vehicle and getting that certification. Im just telling my experience. Its not them working with me to get this all fixed which is what theyre doing but I shouldnt have to be going through this. Another downside is that I havent received any callbacks from the salesman who sold me the vehicle and who babysat this deal until I signed on the dotted line. Give me at least one call to ask how the vehicle was running and if I had any concerns. Im still within their 30 day warranty. I just dont get customer service today. I really dont.

I think no matter where you buy a car, you have to educate yourself as a consumer. You never buy a car sight-unseen--Duh. Research your own trade-in value and fair pricing on desired vehicles. By all means shop around to compare. Be realistic with the condition of your vehicle. Having said that, Ive always been pleasantly surprised at how fair CarMax is. Ive been a customer for 12 years and now I will not even consider another dealership. The loyalty they show repeat customers is pretty awesome. I was more and more impressed after each experience. CarMax definitely operates under their company values, no pressure, fair pricing, great sales team. Buying a car is a big expense and stressful, yet exciting for most people. Little hitches can produce a lot of anxiety in the process. In my decade+ experience, CarMax takes most of the stress out of the experience and literally all of the pressure. Some of the less positive reviews may be legit, but I think they are rare, would bet they could be rectified, and I know for a fact at other dealerships youre more likely to have a nightmare scenario! I doubt Ill need another vehicle for many years but if I do... right back to CarMax Ill go. A++ Negative: I usually get my own financing because I get a better rate on my own, but its truly effortless to do a quick refi after purchase. I dont even have to go back in. I know that isnt unique to CarMax but saving $$ on interest is worth mentioning.

I found a truck that I loved but it was in Atlanta Georgia. I called the Franklin Carmax and received a response from Kyle. He told me we could email specific questions over to the other store prior to me driving down there to make sure the pictures accurately reflected the truck. We sent over the following questions: any odors, smells, rips/tears in the interior, scratches, dents or exterior imperfections. I received a call from Kyle a little while later and was assured the truck was in perfect condition with no dents, scratches or interior issues. I got a friend to drive 3.5 hours with me to pick up the car and became very upset when I learned no one actually looked at the vehicle!!! If someone looked at it they would have seen: 1. The weather stripping on the top of the vehicle sticking up 3 inches off the truck 2. A large gash in the drivers side rear door that poorly covered by touch up paint 3. The paint scratched off the bottom of each door 4. Scratches on the back of the passenger seat During the test drive, Brittany (a very unapologetic and uneducated) salesperson said I should never get body work done by them because it wont be done well or right. I was very upset after making a 7 hour round trip, mostly because I wasted my friends time driving a long way to pick up a car that was supposedly "in perfect condition". This is the second time this has happened when I used them, DO NOT USE CARMAX!!!!

I both bought and sold a car here recently. My sales associate CARLTON BOWEN was fantastic. SOLD: They gave me a very fair price on a 2003 Honda CRV with roughly 180K miles. The process was quick and painless. You do not have to buy a car from them to sell a car to them. I had done my homework before and knew what it was worth and I was offered a price higher than Kelly Blue Book. BOUGHT: Buying a used car was more complicated. It took test driving many and lots of time on their website before I found one that met the very specific details I was looking for. I decided on CarMax because I did have a very specific car in mind that I had not been able to find private seller in the two plus months Id been looking. Also, my sales associate CARLTON BOWEN was fantastic. He spent roughly a month helping me look at cars making calls to other dealerships and coordinating multiple test drives etc. I know having him as a salesperson made a huge difference. I had looked at other dealerships and was treated only like a wallet from the moment I entered. He worked hard to help me find what I needed in a car and was pleasant and respectful the entire time. Not at all the experience I had at other dealerships. With all of the hidden fees etc other places have, carmax was not more expensive. I was glad not to give my money to sketchy people at another place.

Our sales rep Mark Stengel was OK! Questions were certainly not answered or half responses given. We have purchased several vehicles from this location and this time has been a nightmare. After paying a $500 transfer fee the vehicle got there and had a crack in the windshield after long conversation it was replaced because there wasnt supposed to have been any damage. Then I drive an hour to that location to pick up my 2013 F-350 and the vehicle didnt start, although they had notice I was coming and made an appt a day prior. I was given a rental, base model no GPS; my phone had died and I had to find my way home. Thats not so bad but still annoying. When I finally picked up the vehicle it was completely filthy and i wasnt able to see out of the side window where the vehicle stickers were at one time because it was smeared. After confirming that the vehicles was completely reviewed by the service department prior to me driving off the lot I ended up bringing it back because of an oil leak. This was supposed to be a surprise for my husband when he returned from IRAQ 5 days ago...instead he found a leak and we had to take time away from our short visit to have it repaired.
