MY EMAIL TO THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT BEING REFERRED TO THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE I purchased a bottle of what was advertised to Raw Fireweed Honey. The honey was purchased specifically because it would contain - by industry standard - no less than 90% fireweed pollen being it is labeled RAW. The person I purchased the honey for has severe allergies and bee pollen other than fireweed can be a very serious problem. Performing a due diligence test what this syrup turned out to be was a mixture of clover and wildflower honeys with no fireweed pollen. I brought this incident to the managers attention and was told "I dont care what you say or who knows that I dont care." "It is not our responsibility!" The next time this happens bring back the bottle and the receipt and we will give you your money back. Well - is he saying that there is going to be another time? Since it is not their responsibility I asked the health department whose responsibility it was and they said the State Department of Agriculture Food Safety folks and they provided me a link. Since Harbor Greens said that they have no responsibility for selling bad rum or mislabeled honey, then how can you trust their little stickers that tell you what piece of fruit or vegetable is organic. Peel and stick a 4100 label on a golf ball you could sell it as a hard boiled egg and then say "It is not our responsibility." As an Apiarist, it is my responsibility to let you know.

MY EMAIL TO THE LIQUOR CONTROL BOARD I purchased a bottle of rum at Harbor Greens in University Place. When opened it was clear that if there was any rum on the bottle it was minuscule to the amount of vinegar that was present. A Litmus test indicated a large amount of acetic acid. I brought my concerns to the management. Their response was "we dont care who knows about it" "it is not our responsibility" and "the next time this happens bring in the bottle and receipt and we will give you your money back." With this belligerence and arrogance to their responsibility to selling products of quality - and - perhaps a product that could be hurtful I informed them that I would then contact the LCB. Their response was "I dont care - it is not my responsibility." If it is not their responsibility whose responsibility is it?

I dont want to review this in an unfair manner, for that is truly not my intention nor my nature, however I cant get past the extremely overpriced contents in every Harbor greens I visited. The exact same products are available for literally 100 to 200% lower on average at other stores. Perhaps the high-end clientele like to pay more, though its not a whole foods by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, the new Main & Vine is a better store in my opinion, and has a wonderfully high-end whole foods like feel, with much more moderate prices, sometimes even incredibly inexpensive sales. So, if you like to pay too much for certain things within and environment that is unfortunately unimpressive, to be honest, perhaps your loyal shopper here. To me, it really doesnt make sense.

The produce is simply amazing! You cant beat their prices for how fresh the produce is and they have one heck of a wine selection; high-end Opus One to drinkable 10$ bottles. The meat dept. is full service and can custom cut just about anything you like. The deli makes sandwiches that youll never forget! The greatest part is the staff; everyone is so helpful and knowledgeable its really a treat to shop there. A++

Ive received 2 gift cards from Harbor Greens, both times when Ive requested a scan to determine the amount left, I was told the store hasnt the capabilities. They also cant print out the balance on your receipt once youve purchased something. So far this is the only business I know of that is unable to do this. I wonder why? Other than that their store is spot on.

We come at least weekly for fresh produce, seafood and meat. The fruit and veggies tend to be fresh and flavorable, often local, and you can subscribe to weekly emails to see view their sales (also available on their website). Delicious sandwiches, chips and salsa, pizzas, soups, and excellent beer selection.

Mostly staffed by college students as far as I can tell, so not always the most efficient but some of them try hard. Awesome breakfast sandwiches that arent microwaved. Also have a robust dips and salsa and chips area. Produce is pretty good overall. Overpriced for shelf items [sauces, soups, cookies, etc.]

We like to give our business to local establishments, especially when they go the extra mile to deserve it! This is the case with Harbor Greens, as they are excellent in both quality and service. The meat and seafood counter is first class and the best in Gig Harbor.

Nice little store well hidden from the main area. The produce was fairly conventional, though fresher than most. The dry/canned goods are where I found some rather unique ingredients and blends. Ill definitely go back when I have time to really explore.

Very small gourmet grocery/deli. Prices are rather high on most things but if youre looking for that weird chutney that no one else has, it might be on the shelf here. Not so good for everyday shopping. Prepared foods are pricey but pretty good.

The best sandwiches in Gig Harbor, hands down. I dont buy anything else here... pretty expensive. But the sammies are worth the trip alone!

Great for fresh produce and some niche products, but you wont find some of the things you would expect to find at a regular grocery store.

The orange sherbet melon (aka Temptation melon) was the best melon Ive ever had. Very seasonal.
