We recently moved to Winchester and were really pleased to find that there was an actual butcher in town. For New Years Eve we decided to go to The Butchers Station and purchase a few filets to celebrate the new year. Both Jim and Sandy were extremely nice and helpful. The meat case was pretty empty but we inquired and were told there was a multitude of meat dry aging in the back and that we could have what ever we were looking for. We asked for two filets. While Jim cut our steaks, Sandy explained to us about the restaurant side. Next thing we know the steaks are weigh, wrapped and ready to go. This should have tipped me off, any butcher worth his salt will insist that the customer preview the cut before they wrap it up. Jim did not. So off we went. Not until we got ready to prepare the steaks did we realize how poor service we had been provided. The streaks were cut straight from the tenderloin, which had not been dressed at all. All of the extraneous meat, fat, silverskin, gristle etc were left on the cuts. One cut was actually the butt end of the tenderloin, having no actual resemblance to a filet at all. Only a little over half of what we were given was actually the filets that we asked for. As you can imagine, this increased the weight and of course the price of the cuts. Either one of two things happened here, neither of which is acceptable. One, the butcher doesnt actually know how to prepare the meat he is selling. Or two, he thought we were not smart enough or experienced enough to know what we should be getting and tried to pass off a sub-par product to an unknowing buyer. I dont think that anyone in their right mind would start a butcher shop and know nothing about preparing meats, so it seems the latter of the two scenarios is probably right. Regardless, we will not be returning to this establishment, especially since we have found a better alternative within driving distance. Be aware when purchasing meats from The Butcher Station, always ask to see the cuts and know what you should be getting. If this type of service is any indication of the overall quality of this establishment I do not think they will be in business for very long.

My wife and I stopped by here for a light dinner on the 18th of August 2015. The waiter was very friendly, attentive and courteous. The place is clean and neat but with no ambiance - pretty basic décor but as they say, who eats the décor. The menu is simple and limited and freshness is what they say they want to be known for. We were amused that the steaks listed on the menu do not state the size and the mostly do not state a price either. When asked about the filet, the waiter said it was $36 and the size was "a good size piece - about 4 to 6 ounces". We thought that was an unusual way to offer a standard menu item. The waiter mentioned that it was happy hour at the moment and we should also consider their special happy hour menu. We ordered three appetizers - a half a pound of boiled shrimp, a cheese sample tray, and a meat sampler tray. Also ordered one ice tea and one 16 oz beer. We were informed that they were out of the meat sampler and the waiter suggested that we order a wurst/sausage entre instead so we did. The food was tasty and fresh but very small portions - (the cheese sampler was ridiculously small). The meal comes with a non-descript soft white bread which was fresh but not the fantastic crusty French style that you would expect of a top notch, quality restaurant. In fact, the soft white bread was totally unsuitable for spreading the soft cheese, but there was plenty of it for the 4 slivers (and I do mean slivers) of cheese in the $14 dollar sampler. When I received the bill, it came to $70 for such a small meal. Not sure how long this place will remain in business but it will be without mine in the future.

I love this place. Not sure what the reviewer below is complaining about, but Ive purchased steaks from this place and they were sublime!! I guess it may be hard to please some people. Ive eaten here several times over the past few months as well. Recently they told me they plan to expand their restaurant seating and reduce the market offerings. That makes sense in this economy I guess, but Id be mad if they got rid of the market completely. Ive tried their burgers (close to the best Ive ever had), cuban sandwich (best I ever had), and I really like their barbecue as well. Im not much of a seafood guy so I cant speak to that, but Ive ordered steaks (mostly ribeye or porterhouse) 2-3 times and every single time theyve been excellent. Local sourcing does make a difference in taste it seems or maybe its the dry-aging. Check them out if you havent already... oh... the service is excellent too!

Service during our meal left a lot to be desired. Food was ok, but nothing special. After posting a review on Facebook, the co-owner decided to take the review personally and attacked my wifes comments. Obviously this pompous jerk, doesnt know the first thing about customer service and doesnt deserve any business. Its amazing that they are even in business with his condescending attitude and rude behavior. Not worth the time to write this review but others need to be aware and stay far away from this inhospitable establishment.

Had the steak and mashed potatoes and loved it! The steak was the perfect size for me and cooked perfectly. One of the best steaks Ive ever had. Good wine and beer selection and the homemade sangria is really good. Will definitely be back. Just remember, they serve fresh organic food, not processed food. That makes it even better.

Visited for lunch, and Im glad I chose The Butcher Station. I opted for the Cowboy Burger (sliced pork, bbq sauce, horseradish mayo on a huge beef patty).l with roasted broccoli and Route 11 chips. Paired it nicely with a recommended quadrupole bock. Price was moderate. Food was a AMAZING!

The Butcher Stations food is to die for! Every time Im there, I leave feeling much more satisfied than if I were to eat at one of Winchesters many chains. Plus the options are constantly changing and very creative. Definitely one of my favorites in the area!
