Ive owned an 04 R1100S, 01 R1200C, and now an 09 R1200GSA; Ive dealt with many BMW motorcycle dealerships over the years including dealerships in Countryside, IL, Barrington, IL, Ginas BMW in IA, and Chicago BMW; Ive been a BMW MOA member since 2002; Ive had an article and photos published in BMW ON magazine; and Ive been to five BMW International Rallys so I have a good idea of what level of product and service to expect from a BMW motorcycle dealership which is why I cant understand why BMW Motorcycles of Utah is an authorized dealer for BMW Motorrad USA ... of the six motorcycle purchases Ive made over a 20 year period, this was the only bad experience Ive ever had and it was a nightmare from start to finish and Ill give you some of the details so youll know to avoid this dealership. Heres a list of issues that I tracked: ⁃ the bike was advertised with 10,600 miles but after I purchased the bike I received an odometer disclosure document stating 11,422 miles. When I asked the salesman, Michael Uchitel, to explain this he told me they forgot to tell me they let an employee take it on a trip and that they like to do this to keep their bikes "fresh." We were early in the process so when he said "you can cancel the deal if youd like" I responded "I wont stop you from showing me some love by including BMW wear in the saddlebags." In hindsight I wish I would have taken him up on his offer and just walked away from the deal ... and of course the bike arrived with nothing in the saddle bags. - they lost the title ⁃ they shipped the bike with the wrong tires - The local dealership that swapped the tires informed me there were two outstanding recalls that BMW Motorcycles of Utah should have addressed before selling the bike and that Id have to set up another appointment to do these and the work would take hours to complete. ⁃ When Jaimie and Michael and the rest of the dealership stopped answering and returning my calls I had to call BMW Motorrad USA customer support who was able to reach the dealership in real time while they put me on hold. They told me Jaimie would be calling back in 15 minutes. When Jaimie did call me back she apologized for not answering the phone or returning my calls by saying "sorry for ignoring you." - there was undisclosed damage to the right mirror (bent stalk), the left mirror was missing (the answer I got about this was "it was there when it left"), and the lower protective windshield had cracks by all of the mounting screws and two of them were cracked all the way through. - Michael told me the front left turn signal cover was broken and theyd replace it before the bike shipped. They had weeks to get this done before they finally shipped the bike but the bike arrived with the missing lense cover. So this was one more thing I had to coordinate this with the dealership. - it took them two weeks to finally find a freight company, then the truck driver called me to inform me the delivery would be a week late because of an issues with his trailer. Bottom line, avoid this dealership.

These guys are over the top, off the chain, fantastic. The best ever. Really! I was in town for business for 2 days but really needed a mental break and a motorcycle ride is always my first chose for that. I begin to call the normal motorcycle rental places. All of them were pretty much the normal, amateur, back yard rental companies, which you usually run into. They are clearly without customer service concerns or even rudimentary people skills. But I needed to ride so I was about to just bite my tongue and go with the least obnoxious of them. Most had limited or no appropriate bikes available on short notice. (Oh there were a couple… a 4 year old KLR 650 and a 3 year old sportster.) Then I just happened to called mike at BMW Motorrad of Utah, they are at 339 West and 9000 So. in Sandy Utah. I’m used to being treated well. I own and drive Mercedes Bends, Lexus, cars and Bmw, Harley, Ktm and a Honda motorcycles. With that quality of equipment comes a certain level of service expectation. But these guys are over the top, off the chain, fantastic… even among Bmw dealers. These guys were so fun and so good to me I’ll go there anytime I can. The manager of the rental department returned my call while at his daughters school function (instead of sending me to voice mail like most would) and set me up with a r1200rt rental for a killer price and I was set to go. When I arrived they treated me like a king. They are fun people that ride themselves and love the sport. my wife was going to ride “backseat” so they asked if I would rather ride a klt (Lux-o-cruiser) so she would be more comfortable. Of course I would! So they set me up with a brand new klt at the same price. (Which was lower than the 3 year old, 800 lbs vibrator, the Harley dealers wanted me to wait 3 days to rent.) If you’re renting or buying a motorcycle in the Utah area you have to use these guys they are the best. I just wish they were where I live. I’ll use them every time I’m in Utah and recommend them to any of our discerning rider groups. Thanks again Mike………….Enjoy the ride. You’re are the best. They are the monopoly of BMW motorcycles in the area, so if markets work, they should use all of their monopoly power, and indeed they did. My husband was intending to buy a noise-canceling helmet. Their sales staff persuaded us to buy a Shoei. We paid immediately ($600+). There was no sign in the store indicating that the helmet is not returnable; neither did the sales staff mentioned that. After 20 minutes of riding home, the Shoei only worked marginally better to my husband than his old helmet (a $50 old helmet). We called the BMW Motorcycle immediately, telling them that we wanted to return the helmet. The staff said ok. Again none of them mentioned that they have a no return policy of helmets. Today, after taking half day off and driving down again, we surprisingly found that we could not return the helmet. My husband also sent his motorcycle for annual service, and gave them 2 weeks to do all the service work. We were charged more than $1000. After riding his bike for 5 minutes, my husband immediately noticed a new squeaking sound in the front, which was not there when we sent it in. We contacted the service people immediately. Again, no apologies, no explanations. Obviously they didn’t check the bike or test drive it after they did the service. We had to bring the bike to them again (we have no choice. They are the monopoly), and we were charged the second time for the service ($200). If you want to send your bike there for service, or if you want to buy something from them, just remember the very old market rule and be mindful of the treatment that you will get from the monopoly.

I found a used 2012 R1200GS Adventure on their web site. After emailing a question, I was contacted by Renn. Renn did a great job following up with me on all of my questions, so I decided to make the trek from Bozeman down to SLC to have a look. Renn was out of town so Troy was expecting me. He knew exactly what I was there for and went over the bike with me in great detail - relating his personal experience with this model. After buying the bike, Jeff (in parts) helped me pick out the accessories I wanted - and some that I actually needed. A few things had to be sent to my home in Montana because they werent in stock, but it all went really smooth. After driving the bike back home, Ive received 2 follow up calls to make sure I was completely satisfied with my experience. I feel I got a fair deal on the bike, but just as important to me, I had a GREAT experience buying it from these guys - thanks so much for making it fun for my wife and I. Kelly & Shirley King.
