Sunflower Bakery is interesting, I picked up some helpful info from one of the waitstaff who performing the arduous task of rolling the silverware, not fun and not unlike the directions on your shampoo bottle shampoo, rinse - repeat I was told a line forms at the sound of the key unlocking the front door until the last customer is served and the sign changed to closed. One has to remember and abide by island time as many a clock sales person have been up and down The Beach & have gone on to be doctors, lawyers, engineers you name it, theyve done it. All the while knieving that one day with their own pot of gold theyd come back to The Beach and open a lunch counter (if that didnt give away my age, nothing will) The first thing theyd guarantee is there would be 1 clock and that would be the time clock where everyone accounts for their time, well spent of course. Walking in to the Sunflower Bakery, I noticed the skylights, they were actually useful and not just beaming heat into the area. Now you are interested and must stop by right? Anyway after the appropriate beach time wait our family was seated. There were 2 or actually 3 menus counting the childrens menu. Our tables were interspersed with menus a plenty and crayons. Our immediate task was to get glasses of water for everyone. That being accomplished, we all kibitzed about the various menu options, each saying Ill get this and you and can share or the this comes with what you like and hey neat, this other item comes with (insert food item of your liking here) etc until all were ready to order. Our waiter took down the orders and *poof* he was gone to do his waiter thing. That left everyone to sit and anticipate whether or not they truly had made the correct decision. Then there was the traditional passing out of occupying time devices for the kids, as well as the adults. Everyone was anticipating their food choices and beach surfing on their electronic devices. I got up and asked our silver wrapping friend do you know where I can get some change the priceless response was sorry, I dont know what time it is again noting there is possibly only 1 clock or timing device, that being the afore mentioned time clock. So I moved on to the next busy waiter who said go and ask by the bakery counter , Im thinking to myself duh go to the point of sale area. I made my way through the non seated soon to be patrons to the cash register operator and asked for $2 in quarters. This is the 1st time I have received a receipt for buying nothing nonetheless I was given the 8 quarters and the three one dollar bills, stacked neatly on the receipt. I walked past our table not sure if anyone noticed I had left the table but passing by they all were talking about what to do the balance of the day and the kids were crushing candy or trying to thaw the Frozen one. I went and got a real life Sunday newspaper and walked back in to, whered you go & other like questions. I had just finished reading the Fort Crockett lead and breakfast arrived. (sidebar note on Fort Crockett - when the property was relinquished to the new owners you MUST do this and THAT or we be forced to enforce the bottom half of the sales agrrement basically the new owners didnt follow the rules and as a result you soon will be able to drive by and say to history seeking buffs, "this is where Fort Crockett used to be" the lesson to be absorbed here is the follow through is the most important detail in any agreement The food was great! I had the crab omlett and one of the new wave of pseudo picky eaters had some thought it was good as well. Everyone had a little of this and a piece of that and everyone said everything, all in all, was very good. There may be a star or two I could have passed out, but those, like trust, must be earned. As one of my school teachers once said - "No Reward - Without Effort" Mrs. Ellingson circa 1958 (God Bless her - may she rest in Gods arms - one day I will tell her she made a "difference" in this little boys heart and mind) Enjoy & Bon Appitite

Took forever to be seated. We were told that it would take about 20-30 minutes and ended up waiting an hour. People who came in after us were seated immediately. Asked the hostess about that and she said it would be a moment, 30 minutes later, we were still waiting. Once we were finally seated, we waited another 20 minutes for our server to finally appear. While we waited, another server took our drink orders. We both ordered iced tea. Worst tea Ive ever had. Ive had better tea up North. Only other options were soda in a can, which cost $1.25 and charged for refills plus lemonade, again by the bottle. When our server finally came, it was clear that she did not understand basic English. She took our orders and we waited for another thirty minutes for two samdwiches and a cup of soup. The sandwiches were a huge disappointment. My moms BLMT had almost no bacon on it and no mayo or cheese. My own sandwich could barely pass for one as it was severely lacking in the meats. The bread was so hard that I could bounce dimes off of it. Everything was horribly overpriced and not worth the total cost of the bill. I have had better service in a Golden Corral than I had in the Sunflower Bakery. If you insist on wasting your time going there, I suggest that you order the tomato basil soup, as it was the only decent thing I could find. To the men and the child standing behind the counter: you could have been doing something besides standing there running your mouth. Should I find myself on Galveston looking for a spot to dine at, I will certainly remember to cross the Sunflower Bakery and Cafe off of my list and go pto the Orginial Mexican Restaurant instead. At least they know how to treat their customers.

While spending a long weekend in Galveston at the beautiful Tremont hotel, we selected Sunflower Bakery for dinner on Saturday night. Wed been several times during other visits to the island for lunch--had no problems other than questionable service and long waits for mediocre food but thought wed give their dinner menu and service a try. We arrived at 8:15pm and were shown to the dining room on the left that was empty except for one or two other parties of four. Our server showed us to an impossibly small table for two jammed against a column against the back wall. We asked if we could sit at another table. She rolled her eyes and motioned to the other tables and said that "these are tables for four and I guess I can let you sit here but when were rushed itll cause a problem." We sat down and she mentioned that she hoped we wouldnt take long. We took the menus, and she left. We looked at each other and said "forget it"...she could have her table back for any possible "rush" in under 3 minutes. We went to the Mosquito Cafe where we should have gone in the first place. We will never return to this restaurant. If there were a "no star" rating, that would be the most appropriate for the place. In our huge and busy hometown of Houston, we have never received such poor, ill trained and inconceivably rude service. The owners, if they care, should think long and hard about retro-training their staff--attitude adjustments are definitely needed.
