I am a seasoned mechanic of 10+ years in the industry, and have attained Master Tech certification. A close friend of mine wanted me to do his front brakes, his rotors were okay and measured by a local shop a few days prior. A simple pad job...right? Wrong folks, I went into Pep Boys and practically had to beg and plead for assistance from the counter help on a Monday night. I told them the vehicle year make and model I was working on and they offered pads for both 4WD and 2WD models (97 Blazer), since it was 4WD I purchased those. I went home, took the car apart, and found that the pads listed in the computer system were NOT correct. This led to frustration and I had to drive twenty minutes back to the store only to find out that the pads listed for 2WD were somehow the right ones for this 4WD car. (Funny that after 15 years of this car being on the road Pep Boys still cannot offer me the right parts the first time around. Id hate to work in their service department. Anyhow, I got back home to try again and these pads actually looked good. Correct backing plate and all, however, they were OVER sized and did not fit. The rotor wasnt new so I couldnt imagine how far out theyd have been if the rotors were at their thickest and newest. With the brake caliper piston pushed in, I had to sand off at least 3-4/32nds off of the brake pad to get them to BARELY fit over the rotor in the caliper. I have no electrical equipment at my house since I just moved and havent transferred all of my belongings, so I wasted 3 hours with sandpaper rubbing vigorusly to get these pads to fit. I cant believe the quality of the materials they sell there, no wonder they can do "everything for less." Selling items that are "cut to fit" makes it easy I guess. Funny though that the next day my friend was tooling around on the phone and found three different local parts stores that offered the same semi-metallic pad for a cheaper price. Ive never had such a bad experience in my life and should have known better. They did front tires for a cousin of mine in this store a year or so back and I found all of his lug nuts to be loose after he returned home. He had asked me to look at a newly developed noise it had been making since the tires were put on. **You are taking your money and life into your own hands dealing with this outfit, I can only hope by writing this review I stop someone from going through the same frustration so many people before me have. Go to Napa, Autozone, Advanced Auto, or the Dealer if you want actual parts. If you want a headache or an injury, shop at Pep Boys.** Im disgusted and disappointed.

I stopped by this pepboys at 2pm on a weekday to have a set of rims and tires which I already had mounted and balanced switched with the stock wheels on my car. They took my car in maybe 5 minutes after I had arrived and I saw that they were not very busy. I walked around to the garage to make sure they were getting the job done correctly and in a timely manner. After watching the guy walk around my car for about 20 minutes looking under the hood and such I asked what he was doing. Apparently he was giving me a "courtesy" vehicle check which was more along the lines of an inspection, which after I asked, he gave me a list of things that needed to be done to my car. I got frustrated and asked why the hell he would be doing all that when I did not ask for tips on how to maintain my car which I very well know how to do. Regardless I told him just to change my wheels and get it done now because I had planned on meeting someone for dinner. After watching them for another 10 minutes putting my new wheels side-by-side with the stocks on my car I asked yet again what he was doing; he says he doesnt know if they will fit. Again, I told him to simply put the wheels on and if they dont fit just take them back off. The manager was out there by this point and told them to just test fit the wheels. After another 10 minutes two of the guys finally had two of my stock wheels off and were unpacking the new lug nuts. At this point I had begun to put the new wheels on myself and if I was able I wouldve used their tools too. Finally the wheels are on and they fit perfectly.. Imagine that. I tell them to skip the test drive and just bring my car around so I can pay. I wait another 20 minutes and I am now about to have a conniption. The manager must have seen the vein in my forehead and brung my car around for me and covered the cost for me for their poor service. This pepboys would be closed if it wasnt for Todd.

Took my van in for oil change, new battery, and a steering issue that I believed to be alignment. They were to do the oil and battery, check steering, then call me to see what I want to do. Sounds like a plan right? Not at PepBoys! My phone number was wrong on the work order, I noticed immediately and called and gave them the correct number... Next day, van goes in, they do oil and battery, call the wrong number.. "when I called and gave my correct number, the girl told me she changed it on the sheet so he would see it.." Well they gave up on calling me and stopped working on it. 3-4 hours later Im thinking they have to be done by now.. So I call, "OH yeah, your vehicle is ready for pick up", they said they did oil, battery, and alignment.. I thought great, the steering is fixed, I lined up a ride, went up there to find out they did nothing with my steering, didnt call me (along with the fact that I called and gave my correct number... IM IN THE SYSTEM!!!) Then when asked what my van needed I was told an entire steering box.. So far 3 people have said thats BS, Im not sure, but after my super great experience at PepBoys, I think I should listen to them / get a second opinion.. All in all, the people treated us with respect and werent rude or anything, but they do need to learn some communication? Maybe a manager? Something... (Feel free to contact again)

DONT GO HERE!!!! Is it possible to give 0 Stars because this place is AWFUL. They illegally failed me for State Inspection. I took my 2011 Kia Soul for a PA State Inspection and was told I needed new brake pads and rotors, front & back. They said the rotors were rusted and needed to be replaced. The cost for all repairs would be around $850.00. When I told them I couldnt afford $850.00 and I didnt have any issues with my brakes (no noise what so ever), they called back and said they would pass me if I had my rear rotors and brake pads replaced for $480.00. Again, I said I thought they were incorrect and told them not to do any work on my car. I paid for both the State Inspection & Emissions Inspection but only left with an Emissions sticker. Today I took my car to a local and highly recommended Auto Service place and was told all I needed were new front break pads. He said there was minimal rusting on my rotors and the rear breaks were in great condition. I can not believe how badly they tried to take advantage of me.
