I love to support co-ops, but this one is so disorganized and the service is always poor in my experiences. Whenever I go shopping here, I have to stop at another store after since they dont carry a lot. Its good to get bulk items, but last time I went they were out of almost everything I needed from the bulk bins. My biggest problem is that the staff is not very knowledgeable and whenever I have asked a question about an item they carry they usually dont know the answer and thats the end of the conversation. I do continue to shop here occasionally since its the only place that carries soy curls in NE and they have lots of vegan friendly products.

Although the politics of Peoples (being collectivized) is more pleasing, Alberta Coop is down the street from me, and I go almost every day. I think they have a great vegan selection, the employees are adorable and kind, and the bulk herb section is amazing. I would recommend it to anyone. The prices are not bad, actually, and I would definitely choose the small piece of change over the hierarchy and capitalism that Whole Foods has created amidst the vegan/vegetarian "trend". Shop local.

The staff here are awesome, I especially love the produce staff. If you have any questions about their fruit or produce they almost always have the answers. Recently I asked what the inside of an unfamiliar vegetable was like, they said they didnt know but sliced one on the spot so we could sample it! That being said, it is a bit pricy but I am all for having a well curated selection to choose from! I appreciate that they provide ethical, sustainable and local options

A good, well stocked Co-op that engages with the community and offers prices that are still competitive to regular grocery stores is a wonderful thing. And the Alberta Collective grocery does all this, and more! I have found that the prices on their bulk items are even less expensive than most grocery store bulk products. Membership is not required, but its cheap enough for that it becomes worth joining if one shops there even just occasionally.

My favorite hippie dippie coop in portland, although like most coops, expect some severe sticker shock when it comes to meat prices. Like 9 dollars a pound for a frozen chicken. A POUND. Forty dollars for a regular (albeit organic, free range, self actualized, etc) freezer chicken. Other than that, its great, with some decent prices, too.

Ive watched this place grow from a cute little community grocery to an expanded and epic bulk section (they got bulk veganase yall) and on its way to being collectively managed. Truly a pillar of the community. Not just for groceries, check them out on your lunch break for some great sandwiches and snacks from local sources and companies!

It took me way too long to join the Alberta Co-op after moving to North Portland. It is a lovely place! great bulk supply & overall selection in relatively small space. Its also the only place I can find those awesome no-refined-sugar power chocolates. and the perfect pit stop for a snack while waiting on line 8 / line 72 bus transfers.

prices are not at ALL expensive for what youre getting, despite other reviews. this grocery store has high quality organic produce straight from the farm. it doesnt get much better than that. plus a great selection for a store so small, and the staff is always, always, always very nice and helpful.

This is my corner store, and I dig it. It can be a little pricey, but I dont mind most of the time. I like supporting local businesses and farmers and most of the cashiers always smile and chit-chat. There are a couple who make me feel unwelcome... but such is life!

great local produce, and great local color. Not every option in the book, but every option they offer is high quality and delicious. Theres always someone around to answer questions, and you cant beat the community ownership aspect of the business.

If you havent been here, youve got to. No grocery compares in friendliness or selection of natural, local products. Its not a coop that raises their prices because they are employee owned, theyre very affordable and recommend this spot to everyone

This place is a great local spot for produce. Everything is fresh and sourced as locally as possible. The staff is mostly volunteer, and very friendly. Compared to a larger chain they have less selection, but all of what they do have is quality!

Small selection catered to vegetarian and vegan population. I am a lover of fresh animal flesh, so I have to go to bigger stores for my meat. Prices are on the steep side and theres always a crowd of young beggars hanging around the front door.

A nice store, they have some great things, and some things you wish they had. The prices are fair for what you get, and not outrageous in the least. I odnt come her for the bulk of my shopping, I come here for a few essential luxury items

At first I thought this place was more expensive but after being a member for 3 years now Ive come to find that they have much better deals than Whole Foods and New Seasons for many products. The staff is also always friendly and helpful.

Great Selection of food and friendly staff! I visited the Alberta Co op and found organic smoky tempeh strips!!! You cannot find these anywhere and they are amazingly better than other flavors of tempeh! I was instantly won over by this!

A bit small compared to many Pdx Coops but nice. Prices are high but not crazy. Selection was interesting... Saw some things Id never seen before. Some of the staff seemed pretty grumpy, but not in a rude way. Nice parking lot.

Wonderful produce assortment that bleeds out to a few aisles of organic foods. Selection is relatively small but the are great about giving you the right product rather than overwhelm you with choices.

This isnt the cheapest game in town. But you get what you pay for, which means high quality produce and bulk items. Kudos to their beer and wine buyer, I am always impressed with the selection.

Its my local food co-op. Im a member, and love it. Its like an old fashioned corner store, back in the days before pesticides when most stuff was organic anyways, just not labeled as such.

Ridiculously OVERPRICED !#! Good produce but crimini mushrooms $7.50 / lb, Green Peppers $4.50 EACH, etc. I support local business but these people are gouging. Beware !!!

Small health food grocery coop store with range of fresh dairy and organic produce. Small sections of beer, wine, bulk, and household items. Food to go is available too.

Neighborhood institution. Decent prices even if you are not a member. Not a huge selection and definitely better for the vegetarians than the meat eaters. Always friendly.
