Misleading menu, underwhelming execution. This place is cute and nice to stop in to for a beer and an occasional snack. But honestly, the food is really not as great as a lot of people make it out to be. The flavor combinations seem creative and enticing at first-read. But in reality, they are often disappointing. We stopped in yesterday and ordered the Saxy White pizza and a daily special of diver scallops over creamy succotash with bacon and asparagus. The pizza is described on the menu like this: Creamy white sauce with leeks and fennel, mozzarella, artichokes, prosciutto & roasted tomatoes. We ate 2 slices and found no prosciutto. I informed the cook and he told me that they grind it up really fine and put it into the white sauce. Seriously? Why on earth would you annihilate best ingredient on the pizza? And why is it listed as a separate ingredient rather than a component of the sauce? We couldnt taste any prosciutto nor found any while eating. Im calling BS. Next, fennel is listed as an ingredient, when it should say fennel seed. There was no fresh fennel on this pizza and listing it as such is misleading. Finally, the roasted tomatoes were canned and awful. The pizza sucked. The scallop dish was also painfully underwhelming, especially at $22. There were 3 measly scallops, 6 limp skinny overcooked asparagus stalks, and a pile of chickpeas and corn drowning in heavy cream with a few sparse tiny pieces of bacon. Ill say that the scallops were tasty and cooked well, but only getting 3 was a slap in the mouth. Overall, everything was very disappointing. The 94 sanitation score, gnarly unkempt beards on the cooks, and messy/questionable prep areas are not very appealing. I did have a burger and duck salad a few months ago that were both pretty good. If I ever go back here, Ill stick to beer and sandwiches.

We were repeat customers because the food is pretty good. This time we ordered two sandwiches and home fries then waited 45 minutes. Then we decided we didnt want to wait anymore and eat at the store so I asked to have our order changed to to-go only to find out they hadnt even started making it yet. We waited another 20 minutes and I went back up to the counter and asked where our food was, I found out they gave it to someone else. I asked for a refund and got my money back but didnt even receive an apology. All they offered was one sandwich that someone else had ordered. Ridiculous. Will never go back.

This place is incredible!!! I ate here literally every day for about a year. Not only is the food great tasting and great for you, its well priced! The management is usually friendly, the staff is sweet, and the food is unparalleled. You cant go wrong, but I personally recommend the BLT, burger, goat burger, meat loaf, brussel sprouts (in season, of course), and duck fat fries. Excellent drink selection in the back as well: beers, wines, ginger ales, kombucha, root beers, Boylans drinks, cream soda, etc. I also recommend getting the food to go and eating by the river :). Beautiful!

I ordered a signature 6 oz burger. What I got was a lone little patty, with one lettuce leaf & a thin cut piece of prepackaged cheese. The home fries had enough oil on them to lubricate my car. The drinks, dispensed from a machine, were strange at best. To be fair, my wife had a salad plate, which was fairly good. So,.. a stripped down burger that was at least twice the price of any chain restaurant and not nearly as good, some mediocre drinks, & oil drenched home fries... $30.37.

Heavy food! and the chef owner has a total crap attitude toward anyone that doesnt share his exact views. The food is tasty but only because of the immense amount of fat used to make it. The head chef is the only thing keeping this place from being a completely friendly atmosphere. It is unfortunate because the rest of Saxapahaw is amazing. The haw river ballroom (music venue) and the summer Saturdays in Saxapahaw with the farmers market are extremely enjoyable.

Hipster Sheetz. Get your diesel, gasoline, fresh trendy food, sodas, a ridiculously long wait, and very high prices. At least the staff is friendly. I waited a little over an hour for a brie burger (Alecs burger) and duck fat fries. Maybe Im just not the duck fat kind of gal (though I normally like it) because the fat on the fries tasted a little "off" and I could get a cheaper, tastier burger from Wendys even though I *love* brie on anything and everything.

Some people know me and food. Well today i had visited the Saxapahaw General Store order the "Burger, Home Fries, Sweet Tea". Let me tell you this, it was the "BEST BURGER & H.F. I have ever ate ! Talking about sustainable products and ingredients, organic locally grown, locally farmed raised. You can most definitely taste the difference. I will be back and with friends! A great place to stop in for gas, beer, and and some really good food. I personally love the selection of local veggies they always have, and the ribeye & cheese sandwich is my favorite. Dont forget the duck fat fries either! Great service and a friendly out of the way small community atmosphere. If youre in the area, or looking to go out of your way for a good meal, then this is something you should check out!

I was able to eat at the Saxapahaw General Store for the first time on Memorial Day weekend and it was a pure joy. It is like going back in time about 20 years. I had the BBQ sandwich with home fries and it was delicious. If you are looking to enjoy an old school experience not very far from Raleigh, Durham or Chapel Hill I would strongly suggest making a trip to Saxapahaw and visiting the General Store.

Thanks to Cheff Jeff for the Worlds Greatest Meat Loaf Sandwich! Nice and spicy, bread with a bunch of satisfying crunch. That alone is worth the drive from Cary ... and were going back to check out the rest of the menu. Fun experience at an off-the-beaten-path location. The Saxapahaw General store is a great local spot to grab a bite to eat or some groceries. They have the general convenience store fare as well as a wine selection and local break and pastries. On weekdays from 3:30 to 4:30, the General Store is busy due to a local school closing, but usually is pretty quiet.

Best healthy food joint on this side of the county unless you hit the Eddy. Pricey - yes, longer waits- sometimes, made meals your way - almost always willing to accommodate. Used to love your burgers but they may deep fry them for a moment or two. Atmosphere - always awesome! Check it out.

Nice little "General" store. We just stumbled on this store when we went to the butcher on the same block. All staffs are friendly, coffee and food they serve are great. ☺️ Though we didnt buy any today, their produce looked good, too. Well visit again.

This store/restaurant makes the most amazing burgers. Every time I go into this quaint little store, they have great service and delicious food. I havent found anything on the menu that is not delicious. All the staff are wonderful.
