Top 3 things about the Co-Op CHEESE: Im a big fan of cheeses of all kinds, and the selection by the deli is great, all sorts of fresh and aged options from local and international dairy farms. You can buy in little individual chunks to see what you like. Phenomenal with some crackers and local prosciutto or soppressata. BULK SPICES: I love the fact that theres a good selection of bulk grains and nuts (saving a bit of cash and wasting less packaging is a plus) but I love the herbs and spices even more- no more wasting money on expensive dry herb bottles that go stale. Fresh spices really do transform good cooking into awesome cooking. EVENTS: Oktoberfest, all you can eat latkes, local beer fridays, out on the patio, all make for good times, especially when the weathers nice out and youre hungry for some local food.

I love Coops. Ive shopped at Coops all over the country, but every time I go to my local Co-op (Durham), I have to ask myself: why? There is always, ALWAYS, an issue. For example: Yesterday I decide to grab a muffin and a coffee. The baked goods section is filthy; there are flies hovering over the hot bar; and there is no coffee and no creamer. When I politely asked the staff to refill the creamer, they acted as though I was burdening them. And... My muffin was stale. At least they charged me for the correct items this time! This is the poorest run Coop I have ever been to. The staff is not invested in delivering quality. I wonder why the store is usually empty? Unfortunately, this store deserves to go down.

While I love co-ops, I find Durham Co-op is a bit too specialized. I love the selection of Cabot products (reminds me of the co-ops in VT), the bulk section is so much better than WF, and the idea of a co-op is just really near and dear to my heart. Unfortunately, I find the selection to be a bit limited on certain items (e.g. I dont need organic brown sugar, but it was the *only* brown sugar I could find), it is pricey, and the coffee bar is just a flat out no (I ordered an iced latte, and threw it out because it was that bad). Ill be back for the bulk section, but unless they start to carry some more reasonable items, the majority of my shopping with have to be done at another retailer.

My experience shopping here has been great. Its a stelar family place for everyone. You can count on the quality organic food and crazy good beer selection. I especially love the folks who work there. Super kind every time. (This is really hard to do. We all have ups and downs. Not something you can easily show when you work in customer service.) Once I even got a major bit of life wisdom that was really appreciated. Not preaching mind you. Just solid sage advice from one human to another having a good conversation. This makes the shopping experience so wonderful. I am proud to be a Durham Co-op member.

This long-awaited store is a real joy. The cafe features many non-meat and often vegan dishes on the hot bar, and on Monday evenings the hot bar is all-vegan for "Meatless Monday". The head cook for this event is great--lots of variety and much down-home cooking. The rest of the store is good too...a very sufficient bulk section, and about everything you really need in a natural foods store. They get in fresh, locally-baked bread from several sources, as well as many other items. The staff are friendly and make you feel very welcome and at home.

I finally visited the durham co-op last week to do a little shopping, and I am so glad that I did! For a small, local and health focused store they really had a lot. A GREAT selection of local groceries which I was expecting, but I was surprised I was still able to get some other necessary items that cannot be sourced locally. They had things that I often cant find at Whole Foods (or cant find for anywhere near a reasonable price a Whole Foods). I didnt even have to go to a second grocery store to fill in the gaps! Very pleased.

The prices are generally higher than WF. Other than serving a location that is underserved, I see no reason for it to exist given the limited selection and higher prices I also bought some chicken thighs that turned out to be rancid. I brought them home and opened immediately for dinner and nearly threw up. They did refund my money, but it suggests that they dont have the turnover needed to keep meat fresh. Unless you live nearby, skip it and go to WF. By the way, Id love some real competition for WF, but the co-op isnt it.

I agree with Arton Ragsdale, this is a great addition to the neighborhood. I think it helps clean up the neighborhood and they have affordable food that is baked daily. They also have fresh fruit and different types of food for different types of people. For example, they have vegan and gluten free food. They are also very environmentally conscious and they use solar lighting and use compostable silverware, cups, and plates. This grocery is a great and affordable place and I would recommend you go to it.

Great place to share coffee or a meal with friends. Lots of options for food including vegetarian an vegan. The cafe space and outdoor seating are pleasant. They also have good selections of wine, beer, local produce, and groceries. The prices are similar to Whole Foods but there are specials that are competitive with big box stores. Free coffee with a breakfast item is hard to beat. They stock local breads and pastries. The staff is friendly and helpful. How can you beat the $3 Thursday dinners.

Awesome Durham market. We do all our shopping here and occasionally will go for their hot bar and excellent sandwiches. As it continues to grow, I hope they increase their salad bar/hot bar and prepared food options. They are a bit slim compared to other outlets, but this is a true grass roots effort and Im sure will take time to grow as the community pours their support behind it. Theres a large seating area inside and out with good WiFi,so a great place to work and people watch.

My publishing company has been in this neighborhood for nearly 30 years, and the addition of the Co-op has substantially improved the quality of life in the community. I visit the coffee bar every day, and the eat-in restaurant has an excellent hot bar. I especially enjoy the outdoor seating area; in nice weather, I will have authors come meet me there to discuss book proposals.

The Co-Op is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood! Lots of great quality produce and a great selection of packaged and frozen goods. The $3 dinner Thursdays are always a great time. I really like their wine selection with many really nice affordable options. My favorite thing is the grind-your-own peanut butter and the bulk goods including an excellent spice section.

Hands down, the worst customer service ive ever experienced. This place is ridiculous. If theyre not scamming you, theyre scamming each other on who is guilty. I might be reviewing about this place today, but this happened months ago. I might stop in to see if things have changed. Ill give an update if I do. Hopefully the offending people have been let go.
