I had been a loyal Pep Boys customer while I lived in California (the San Leandro, CA location). Then I had a HORRIBLE experience with the unprofessional staff at the Tryon St. location after I moved to Charlotte. I swore Id never visit another Pep Boys for service, or spend any of my money at their stores. Then my oil light came on, and since Pep Boys has convenient locations, I found myself back at Pep Boys on South Blvd. in Charlotte. I must admit, I had my guard up because of the 2-day debacle that I endured at the Tryon Street location. The difference between the stores however, was like night and day. Tony and Juan at the South Blvd location were fantastic. They were respectful, professional, and knowledgeable. I could tell that the team at South Blvd. were committed to providing great customer service. Fong did a fast and efficient job changing my oil and installing new tires. While I was waiting, I observed Tony, Juan, and other employees interacting with other customers, and was very pleased with what I heard. Even when delivering news that no one wants to hear (your coils need to be replaced), Tony was honest, professional and made appropriate recommendations. When the store began to get busy (around 11 am), Tony was in control and ensured that customers were serviced promptly. He set realistic expectations for wait time, which showed that he respected his customers time. The level of service I received was exceptional, and the way that I observed other customers being treated was impressive. Everyone was satisfied. The team at the South Blvd. location truly earned my business back. Highly recommended.

Great friendly sales associate but poor management practices. Yes, I ordered two items through the website that Pep Boys did not intend to discount as much as it did and I fully expected to receive a cancellation email since it was a day after the store was aware of it. Order was placed 7-13. It was the day after the order was placed that I got a call at 10:37AM that it was ready to be picked up. I then got an email at 11:14AM that it was ready to be picked up. I arrived at the store and the manager told me hes canceling the order after I got to the store at 11:50AM. He said the corporate email about their system error was received at 11 so my order-ready communications wont be honored. I understand it was a price mistake, thats okay. I also understand that it was likely to have been canceled. But please be proactive about it and cancel the orders either through the email system or a phone call instead of having each customer come in first and then canceling the order on-site. Its a waste of time and drive, for the customer, to get to the store while the prices are still higher than other sources even after he offered 25% off as per the email from corporate. The sales associate at the pick up desk was immensely polite and helpful, however. Also, after you cancel the order and then you talk about the customer and his order while hes browsing around the aisles, he can hear you. At least wait until the customer leaves the store.

I would rate it less if I could. I went in for an alignment about 6 moths ago. After the alignment was done I paid and got in my car to drive away. As soon as I was on the road I felt that there was something wrong so I pulled off onto a quieter street and did some driving back and forth, the car was pulling to the right quite noticeably. I went back and told them that it was done wrong and pulls to the right. They had the mechanic come out to take a test drive. and he was arguing with me that the car is supposed to pull one side and that it was something to do with torque in the transmission. I was an alignment tech a few years ago, and he had no idea what he was talking about, I would have done the alignment my self but I dont have the expensive machinery. Now 6 months later, my at the time nice tires on the front and slightly worn tires on the rear, are worn on one edge completely and still nice on the other side and center. Its like the tire is riding on completely one side. As far as Im concerned these are a bunch of crooks that are just there to take your money, not caring for the customer or his car.

I ordered a battery on line for pickup, there was a 25% discount on line under the price for the battery. When I went in to pick up the battery, I showed the young man the 25% coupon and he told me that wasnt the battery he had pulled and that battery I wanted wasnt a good battery. I explained to him I didnt care it was a run around car for my son. So then the young man couldnt get the coupon to go thru, he advised the coupon was for certain items. So I asked if that was the case why on line in my cart it took the 25% off the price? He went to get the manager and the manager and repeated that the battery I wanted wasnt good and as he is looking at my phone showing him the 25% applied to the battery that I wanted, he still said he couldnt do anything and like his associate he also kept trying to sell me a another battery for $30 more then the one I wanted. Needless to say, I just walked out went 8 minutes down the road to Autozone and bought a battery, hassle free.

Do not buy anything from Pep Boys. Go to Auto Zone instead or Advanced Auto Parts. They do not take returns on certain things and are the worst company ever. I bought an electric scooter here and took it home and charged it. It failed to hold a charge. So I look down at my receipt and see that it says no returns accepted on this item. They failed to tell me this when I purchased the scooter. So I called and explained to them the situation. They told me that you cant return a car to a car dealership after you purchase it and that they were not responsible for the item failing to work. This was only 2 days after purchasing the item! I hadnt even ridden except when I tested it in the store! If I could I would give this place ZERO stars! I will be opening a claim through my bank to get the money back! However, hopefully you will read this and avoid Pep Boys!!!!! They are liars and cheaters who dont care about you and try to swindle you out of your money!!!

I had trouble starting my SUV, but I got it started and was able to drive to this Pep Boys location. The Repair Shop Manager, Tony, took care of me very quickly even though the store was busy. The tech very promptly checked my battery (which was dead). They also checked my alternator, which was fine. Then, they very quickly replaced my battery while I waited. The technician (Jeff) who replaced my battery was very meticulous and thorough when replacing the battery, and made sure all connections were clean and secure. The price was VERY REASONABLE. I was out the door and on my way in less than one hour. This is the second or third time I have purchased a battery at Pep Boys, and this store has alway done excellent work. I have also had other work done here, including an alternator replacement on another car. I was very pleased with that work as well.
