One star rating only because its close to my house! Terrible worst book pawnshop Ive ever experience. His name is Steve, Steve with glasses he wears glasses, I had 10 boxes of books for sale he picked up number six box and was slightly wet from trunk bad and freaked out wouldnt even let me find dry ones in the box and rush to antibacterial gel, water is not hazardous Steve! After reviewing my books he had 20 and offered me $20 I asked for $22 he said and I quote no $20. I replied with $21, Steve and I quote its $20 and if you say $20.50 Im going to offer you 18, so I thought the books were worth at least a few more dollars I decided to take them to one more place close by I said Ill be back in an hour and he with a very rude voice said no you will not be I said excuse me he said you are not bringing those books back I said are you banning me from your store and kicking me out he said absolutely. With that attitude Steve, youre not going to be open for another 30 years and I will be there to talk to the owner with my books that you said I cannot bring back . So everybody when you go deal with Sues she was friendly but Steve is very rude and doesnt give you any leeway with negotiation and offers you next to nothing for purchasing books !!!!! Ill never go back again and thats my rate is zero for Steve the corn ball with glasses I hope you have a terrible holiday good luck I hope you catch the bird flu

Wish I could have seen the actual selection but the fellow manning the register didnt even give me the chance. The hours specifically stated 10 - 6, despite him denying this fact, website or otherwise. A sign was out on the door: "Come in, we are open!" I had books that needed looking at, sure, but I was going to buy books in the meantime (but gave me no time to explain). He was unaccomodating and I found this to be unprofessional and deterring. Its a shame, the book selection looks good from the windows. Guess Ill take my business down the street. Edit (to the response): Then why was I turned away? A couple others and I were told to leave the store because, verbatum, "it wasnt open." And the fellow at the counter insisted that it wasnt open until 11 according to the website (which exclusively says 10). If you think people arent going to be upset driving to the store and paying for parking only to be disputed and turned away, youre mistaken and should have better business practices.

After ordering a book on line and waiting 3 weeks for delivery I contacted them by email . They indicated that the book had been shipped on a specific date and that it normally takes 12-14 business days for media / USPS delivery and that I should check with my local PO ( ? ) . Next day day they sent another email indicating that my book had actually been sent at a later date then indicated previously . This gave me some hope . I recontacted them after ~ 8 weeks , but no response . I have never received the book . And my payment was never redeemed . It was not much money so I have not made an issue of it . But be wary if ordering an expensive book .. as I suspect that " stone-walling " might be their way of dealing with books lost in the mail .

Very unprofessional staff here. I walk in because I am new to shopping on James Street, and I love books; new, or used books. In my never-ending quest to get more books for my home, I spotted the sign on my way to Café Kubal. After my lunch, I stopped in to buy some books. A hello, welcome, or kiss my butt would have been more than what the employees said to me, during the visit. I was looking for a 10-20 volume series, or a set of books, but Ill have to shop on-line to get it. Jon, in Nedrow does not have such a series for me, but I like his store much more.

Ive been going there for nearly 25 years. Ive yet to leave without buying a book I was looking forward to read. Back when I lived in Syracuse they used to regularly buy some of my unwanted books as well, giving store credit. (Probably would get 5 stars on the basis of the store itself, but one of the long-time staff is sometimes cranky and off-putting, though anyone who frequents many used bookstores is probably used to dealing with the occasional cranky owner or clerk.)

I have been a long time customer. I have always found the staff friendly, accommodating and well-informed. They have helped me locate hard-to-find books and have made excellent recommendations regarding authors with whom I was unfamiliar. I have felt that the books were reasonably priced and were in good to excellent condition. Books End is my favorite bookstore, used or new, in the area. I highly recommend it.

Very poor service, staff does not demonstrate a good knowledge of rare volumes. Although the web site says there is no need to call ahead, this is not true. Only the owner does appraisals and he is not there full-time. Save yourself a wasted trip- go online and see what people are paying for a book.

Local used book store with that musky scent that reminds you of the library. The collection is modest. Some books have water and insect damage, however, that may be the condition they were in before getting put on sale. Some very old books from the prior century can be found here.

This is a well organized, sharp shop. They know the books they have, they know what books are worth, and their prices are fair. Their website has a great and accurate search feature. Theyve got a pretty good poetry section too.

My favorite book store in Syracuse. Small store but books galore and usually priced better than everyone else! You can even check inventory online or order books to mail home.

Great place, organization of books can be confusing, but staff is always helpful. Frequent Buyers Club punches for purchases of $10 or more!
