My computer was still under warranty when I brought it to the MacSupport store for a few minor repairs. Once there, I was curious to know if there was a device that could help me perform at home an automatic back up of my data. I was told that the new Leopard operating system would do it. I spent $199 for it (version for multiple computer). Then they recommended to perform an "optimization for faster computer speed and better performance". It wasnt part of the warranty. Cost: 49 dollars. Once home, I received a new invoice via email with a new charge: "Data Backup Service - protect data before repair $129.00". I asked about this charge via email.They replied: "You dont have a backup of your data, as indicated on check-in. We can back up the data for you before beginning the repair of the the logic board." By that, I understood that I was going to pay for the back up of my computer. $129 was an expense i hadnt budgeted but I thought that it would be wise for me to have once and for all a full back up of my data. I expected to get my back up on CDs once I would pick up my computer. I picked up my computer in a rush (its difficult to get a legal parking spot there) and I forgot to ask for my back up. Once home, I sent them an email reminding them that I had forgotten to take my back up. This is the reply I got from them: "you dont get a backup - we backup the files onto an internal network drive before the repair. once you p/u the unit we do not keep your personal data.". A second email said that my $129 back up was an "insurance against data loss." before repairs. I was stunned... Their wording completely misrepresented what i thought i was buying. I sent several emails asking for a refund. They have been ignoring my emails since then.

Im a local guy so schlepping my Mac Pro that wouldnt start into Manhattan wasnt high on my list of things Id love to do. Fortunately, I remember seeing this place after checking out the Morbid Anatomy Museum a few times and so I loaded up my tower and the Wizards at the Mac Support Store had her up and running after just a day. The price was much lower than I expected, they cleaned all the dust outta the inside and it seems faster now too. Miguel at the front desk was nice, even when I dropped off just a few minutes before closing. Judi helped me when I came back to pick up my tower and she was honestly happy to see someone with a desktop computer in the age of tablets and iOS and mentioned how she loves them because they are easier to upgrade and keep to date. The space was cozy with a few kids playing computer games and had vintage Mac posters all over the walls, there was Netflix available on a big TV and comfy couches to sit and chill. There were different Macs to try out/rent/purchase and a group of vintage macs that they still had up and running that just show how far weve progressed and have gotten spoiled. My macs rarely need maintainance or upgrading but I will take them back here because I had a great experience, the staff are down-to-earth people, Im all for keeping it local and I want the first Mac Support Store in Brooklyn to thrive. I feel The Mac Support Store to be an invaluable asset not only to us Brooklynites but for folks around the adjacent boroughs I feel their service is incredible to say the least they are not only very courteous but they do know their work. My 09 iMac would not turn on at all and I had tried everything imaginable so I took it to the Mac Support Store having been there many years ago, I brought in my iMac on a Friday morning, they performed a free diagnosis on Friday or Saturday and e-mailed me the results, suggestions and invoice on Saturday afternoon they worked on it on Monday and I had it back by that Tuesday that is fast for the work I had done on it my friends and now I am very happy that it is running better than ever. They upgraded my OS suggested I maxed the memory for better performance and most importantly changed the broken parts and the machine came back working almost brand-new. Prices were pretty reasonable. All this I have mentioned above is why I will with no doubt return to the Mac Support Store in the future for repairs again superb quality of service/mac expertise and incredible turnaround time. I wanna thank all the guys there for all their help it was a pleasure talking with you. Keep up the good work Mac Support Store. You guys Rock.

I took advantage of the free diagnostic appointment option, and ended up feeling I had taken advantage of a small business. As I said to Jeff, one of the owners as we finished up "What is the business model that lets me spend almost an hour with one of the founders - tweaking my Mac, getting training and advice - and paying nothing at the end?" Id arrived with my wifes MacAir suffering from several niggling performance issues. Over the course of Jeffs diagnostic session no smoking gun solutions were revealed. Nothing that would get the machine on a workbench and generating money for the store. But as he scanned the settings and the software that might be dragging down performance and causing glitches, "diagnostic" crossed over into "tune-up" - switch this, trash that, download this, update that, every 6 months try this, in the future never do that. Laptop performance is improved, and I know better how to keep it humming. No charge. Ive been using the Mac Support Store off and on since it opened. It has always demonstrated high integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction. Theyve trusted that approach to yield a successful business. I think it has been open 10 years now, so I guess the business model is working after all.

I brought in my MacBook Pro which I had had for 5 years and was waiting for it to finally kick the bucket. Well, I couldnt get a screen to come on, though the keyboard caps lock was lighting up, so I knew the chances were near aught that it could be salvaged for a reasonable amount of $. While waiting (for 5 minutes) for assistance, I looked around at what was available in the store and saw some refurbished models. Ultimately, it took longer than they said it would to get back to me that the Pro was history (not worth putting money into it), as the testing took about 3 days and I made about 4 phone calls. I did, however, purchase a refurbished Air for a decent price and they took the time to explain its virtues and reason it was a reasonable risk. I found the staff to be helpful and I hope I made a good choice buying a refurbished Air, since I was not in the position to buy new. Didnt give 5 stars only because the system check took so long, and I wondered whether they couldnt tell me earlier that it would probably be unsalvageable. I like the low key atmosphere, though, and my gut says they are on top of their game.

I cant believe they are actually allowed to still operate. Do yourself a favor and take whatever problems you have to any other Apple store, BUT DONT TAKE IT HERE !!! I brought them my computer with a spill, couple of keys did not work. Mind you, I used the computer for 3 weeks after the spill and everything was fine except for the keyboard. When I came to pick it up the latch didnt work. So, they said theyre gonna have a technician look at it. When I call them on Monday, they are telling me that now the spill (that was there for 3 weeks prior) that impaired the keyboard has become "degenerative" and has trickled down to the latch and that is what preventing it from working. I mean, a drop of tequila on top of the keyboard has caused a latch to shut and not open. I refused to pay additional $200.00 to have the latch repaired and said that it is not my fault. In response, the owner (his name is Jeff) told me to "stop bitching" and not to insult his "technicians". And guess what, they actually charged my credit card for additional $200.00 that I NEVER AUTHORIZED !!!
