I went to Schone Bride for the express purpose of the dress I ended up buying - the Chellise by Rebecca Schoneveld. Having seen it online, I lusted over the dress and went to Schone after trying another popular bridal shop first. Between two appointments I tried on pretty much every dress in the store but the Chellise was still the one. I happily put down the 50% deposit that could have easily bought a used car or paid for a semester of community college. Went and did my measurements a few months later, went back for another measurement appointment after an important one got missed by their consultant. Held up my end of the bargain every step of the way. Fast forward to April, two and half months before my July 1 wedding. The first fitting. Except it didnt fit. It didnt fit at all. The bottom looked like a garbage bag and the top was a couple inches from closing. It was supposed to be made to my closest street size. Last I checked, street sizes dont vary much, especially when youre the designer. While trying not to panic, the store manager came in redid my measurements. I watched her write them down next to the earlier ones. Nothing too drastic in terms of the difference. Realizing that stress levels were beginning to rise, the manager and a consultant tried to keep me in the fitting room and instructed my mother and me to keep our voices down. So as not to disturb the two other potential brides shopping? Not cool. Even less cool? Saying theyd get back to me with a solution that very same day and not emailing me until the next morning. Not a phone call, an email. Their proposed solution? Three weeks to fix their mistake. No explanation, no apology, nothing. Just like three weeks, no big deal. But it is a big deal when invitations are being sent out, showers are happening and youve got a bride without a dress. At the very least, my dress should have been bumped to the top of their queue and turned around as quickly as humanly possible. After the lame treatment I received following the fitting and the heinous craftsmanship of the dress I witnessed, I decided Id be better off without Schone Bride in my life. Did I mention I live over an hour away? So every trip in (5 so far) takes me half a day and a crazy amount in tolls. And that Im two-ish months from my wedding? They didnt care though. Every solution they proposed, including the text messages Rebecca sent me in lieu of picking up the phone, were on Schone Brides terms. Their confidence in their skills, their other options for fixing the dress. I have no confidence in their skills. They couldnt even make my dress to street size (they dont do custom sizing). They couldnt even apologize. They couldnt even explain how it happened. No transparency. No real sympathy for the customer. There were even more (minor) hiccups and headaches along the way that I could spell out but frankly I would have just preferred they give me part of my deposit back so I would have more money for another dress.

I had a very similar experience to Katie, below. This company markets itself as custom and handcrafted. That would be fine, but they are selling these dresses retail nationally. I bought my dress in Denver but was expected to work one-on-one with their designers in New York in order to fix issues that were based solely on their own design flaws. If I buy a retail dress in Denver, it should be alterable by any skilled seamstress anywhere in the country. It should not require custom or handcrafted care in order to be wearable. My expectations for the dress were so basic. I didnt change size, Im a size zero or two in retail clothing, I didnt procrastinate on alterations, I wasnt looking for any changes to the design or style then what was advertised. The dress was simple AF. No layers. No embellishments. I went to three skilled seamstresses - two of which had experience with Schone gowns, one rated best of Boston (where I moved because my now husband is in school). All three seamstresses said the issues with the dress were so bad that they required, you guessed it, custom and handcrafted updates. The dress didnt fit... AT ALL. Even after Schone custom made me TWO brand new bodices. The seamstress that was rated in Best in Boston took one look at it and asked me if these people took any pride in their work. She said I should demand my money back. It was that bad. But it wasnt just the issues with the dress, it was how they handled those issues, and it was how I was treated during the process. Im not one to write mean reviews online if a company has one bad design. It happens right? And I get that they are transitioning from a custom shop to a national retailer. It is understandable that they are trying to work out the kinks. But I was very nice, patient and communicative and still treated terribly. Their reaction was disorganized, they blamed me, they blamed the seamstresses, they did EVERYTHING but take responsibility. They did everything but apologize and make it right. It was just so appalling. They left me hanging without a wearable dress a week before I went home for my wedding. They sent me $500 back on a $1800 gown. Only after I shipped them the gown back. Essentially, I sold them back their own unworn dress at a fourth of the cost I bought it for just so I could afford to buy a back up dress a week before I left for me wedding. This is what you should expect if you go with Schone Bride: abysmal and disheartening customer service, poor design, tears, stress, debt. Pray you have an understanding boss because you will have to take numerous days off work. Girls - do yourself a (huge) favor and find another company to work with. I bought a backup on BHLDN and it was gorgeous and ready to wear within a few days.

Just an absolute dream experience! I had been extremely nervous about bridal shopping - having a big wedding isnt something I ever expected to do, and shopping for a dress was something for which I was totally unprepared. This whole experience can seem like such a weird labyrinth, but Schone Bride made it not just easy but pleasant. I went to a number of other bridal shops, but this one was truly above and beyond. From the beautiful decor and calming vibe, to the rows of dresses that are thankfully displayed in the shop so that browsing is allowed and so that people like me who dont come in with a clear idea can get inspiration while in the shop, everything was beautiful and calming. They carry a wide range of dresses (and in a wide range of sizes - something thats shamefully absent in most other bridal stores), all of which are exquisitely beautiful - I particularly recommend their in-house brand, Rebecca Shoneveld. I worked with Celeste, who was wonderful - extremely kind, friendly, and knowledgeable. She instantly put me at ease, made great suggestions, and made the experience fun and effortless for me and my friends who came with me. She also absolutely bent over backwards to make a rush order happen and to provide many options and possibilities while I was making my decision. I truly cant recommend Schone Bride enough!

To be honest, it was difficult for me to even give this designer one star. My dress came in WAY too small and was so poorly made. I spent over $1,500 on a dress that I was so uncomfortable in. After exhaustingly trying to fix the dress with alterations, I ended up buying a new dress two weeks before my wedding. Meanwhile, the company did nothing to better the situation. Its already stressful being a bride, dont add to it by purchasing something made by Rebecca Schoneveld.
